First, I am just as appalled and terrified as you. Second, Al Jazeera didn't do this for the sake of righting a wrong. They did it so that rich criminals would go to Qatar instead of Cyprus. Qatar cannot help them obtain a European passport, which is why it doesn't fare so good on the "resort for a rich criminal" market.

@Transmitters 'R' Us It is your opinion and I have no problem respecting it. I also insist that Al Jazeera did not do this piece out of any kind of altruistic motives. It is a commodity they are selling, and it's fine by me, since it uncovers corruption at the highest levels of Cypriot government. These two things are not mutually exclusive: I am grateful for the piece and highly suspicious of their motives. And I congratulate you on having a firm opinion.

@Transmitters 'R' Us And yet a rich Qatar investor illegally buys a large area of land belonging to Greek citizens on a Greek Ionian Island. Today the investor is embroiled in legal action in Greece. It would be good if Al Jazeera would report on this rich corrupt individual and his associates!

They broke no laws. Most nations have the same investment to citizenship program. (UK, USA, EU, etc) Communist China politically persecutes people for, Crimes against the state, Money Laundering and Bribery. Chinese laws are not enforceable with EU and Americas. Chinese citizens claim Political Asylum in USA, UK and Others every year and are given a new name. All nations have investment to citizenship programs.
This video was edited and cropped to make Cyprus look bad. The Cypriot fellow in this video appear to be interviewing him and understanding who is he exactly to finalize their application. That is their JOB ! There are NO laws broken. !
Al Jazeera is aiding and abiding in Turkey's continued destruction of the Republic of Cyprus. This propaganda is to Character Assassinate Cyprus's image in the EU to dis-empowers Cyprus's ability to get sanctions and finalize the EU Military cooperation pact.

I lived in Cyprus for 17 years since I was a child and both I and my family were denied to be given citizenship on the basis of naturalisation. Yet the government is giving passports to criminals, I managed to get mine after so much effort and back and forth my family still doesn’t have a passport to the point that they had to come the UK and settle as stateless. My brother was born and raised in Cyprus and he doesn’t have a passport. A young 18 year old committed suicide 2 years ago because he was denied his citizenship so he couldn’t go to study abroad, he was a very Bright student and he was denied his basic right of education outside of Cyprus! Meanwhile this criminal Cypriot government is handing out passports with pay! Thank you Aljezzera for your work on this piece feels like justice will be finally served.

This is a propaganda machine by Turkey. AL Jazeera is Qatari company supported 100 % (by force or by association) by the Turkish Government to dis-empower the Cyprus Government's ability to protest in the EU for Turkish Sanctions and for Cyprus to remain committed to EU military alliance.
ALmost all nations have investment to citizenship programs (USA, UK, EU, etc.) I wish you all the best Roza, I wish you to live in Cyprus forever. I left after Turkey killed my family and stole my land. I dont want to go back. But you have a new future there. Dont let these animals in Turkey harm you, dont let them win. If i had my land i would give it to you, free. i prefer someone line you and Alex than these animals that cut the head off my grand mother. I cannot forgive, the pain is too much.

Maybe you should join the Turkish Intelligence Agency to help them invade Cyprus and gain popular opinion with this Fake Video. These people did nothing wrong, they were trying to help a convicted person from a un-compatible communist country that EU< USA take in as Asylum Seekers. (You probably dont even know what that is ? ) almost 200,000 Greek Cypriots claimed similar status when Fleeing Genocide from Turkey to other nations. You know nothing about Laws, Rules and World-Affairs but you have BAD Opinion to share. Maybe you should use your "System 2": Brain .

As a Cypriot. You need to go study Law and International Affairs. Every country has an investment to citizenship program. Cyprus is 2.5 million but USA is only $ 500,000.00.
USA is largest immigration center in World. How many Cubans charged with Money Laundering, Bribery and Acts against the Communist State does USA accept per year ? Since 1960-1990s. ? a few million ?
You need to Go Educate Yourself and used your SYSTEM 2 Brain.
Al Jazeera is owned by Qatari Government. Sponsored by Turkey, Iran and ISIS and many other Terrorist Organizations.
If there is a Devil (a Shatan) and this Devil commits evil acts such as Murder, Rape, Theft, etc.. Than the worst thing that i see through the eyes God has given me and that i can understand in my mind that God has given me ... would be Terrorism. Terrorism is the worst act of humanity. If Al Jazeera sponsors and supports nations that support and sponsor and train Terrorism. Then what does that make AL Jazeera ?

    • @empsirch7983
      @empsirch7983 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You really should educate yourself. If your a convicted criminal and served your time, your crime is finished. It gets pardoned. If your a criminal, and want to travel to other countries and opening corporations or invest. Should that country have restrictions, then you simply make an application to apply. Its up to tye country. What is bothers is the stupidity of the Cypriot people. !!! Many from 1974 war never got their lands back, and the ROC doesnt give them properties. That is more of a problem than someone making a special application to become an investor legally.

This program is by Turkey to destroy the Greek Cypriots, it is racist. Every country has same program. how many millions of CUBANS travel to USA without money claiming citizenship with criminal charges in Cuba ? Go to Miami there is more than 2 million Cubans, all of their grand fathers and fathers have Money Laundering, Bribery, Murder charges by Communist Parties. Same in China.
Al Jazeera is sponsored by Turkey, Iran and Many terrorist organizations. like ISIS.
You Go study Law and International Affairs and understand how Dirty Al Jazeera is to Sponsor by Turkey and their Genocide against Christian Greeks. Even today Turkey and Al Jazeera are on same Page, they Hire Terrorists and pay them $ 100 dollars per Christian Head. Woman and Children included. Worse than Natzi.
Go study and you will open you mind. It is Free to Think. God gave you a BRAIN, you are capable of more than you can imagine. You can speak against Al Jazeera and Turkey. Make them Unpopular and show the world who they are ally are. The evil that is dead inside of them.

Every country has Investment to citizenship programs. And every country has the right to govern their lands. China is a communist country and is no member to any international treaties for Anti-Money Laundering or combating crimes, other than cooperative deals. China jails minorities, subjugates them to propaganda and charges political opponents with money laundering and bribery and speaking against the state. So, no China money laundering charge is taken seriously in the First or Second World nations. USA would accept him with only $ 500,000.00 investment. and, probably review his case. especially if he has money to invest. USA accepts charged Cubans by the Thousands fleeing Fidel Castro's Communism. Were they not charged with crimes during Fidel's reign in Cuba ?

After WW2 US was bullying the UK with their new air of dominance. Even economic dominance. The brits with their declining powers and a bunch of colony islands like barbados, the caymans, cyprus.. decided to return London City back to medieval rules ( no documentation) in order to start spreading their eggs from the Americans, so they wouldnt lie all in the same basket. By mouth to mouth in London meetings, orders were given out to stash cash OFFSHORE. Generations later while capitalism is in its end stages and on respirator, the system's parasites, rich folk, continue that tradition on smaller scales.

You need to go Educate Yourself and Stop Using SYSTEM 1 Brains. Its Time to Start Using your BRAINS and stop listening the Terrorist Sponsoring New Agency Like Al Jazeera. These people did nothing wrong. No Rules are broken, and actually it shows how STRONG Cyprus' anti-money laundering Rules are... most Lawyers in UK, USA and Canada would NEVER request full disclosure to a Bank of the Already Convicted Criminal of Anti-Money Laundering > However, this guy was a Political Aslyum seeker and he was convicted in a Communist Nation like China that DOES NOT CONFORM to Anti-Money Laundering Rules. China Helps North Korea with their ILLEGAL PRINTING OF US Dollar Counterfeit Currency and China carried out Anti-Money laundering for the EU ? are you kidding me ?
You need to go educate yourself ! Al Jazeera is controlled by the Turkish Intelligence Agency for destroying Cyprus;' Image to gain EU support against Cyprus and Greece. As you already see. Cyprus will be invaded again and annexed North to Turkey wtihin 2-5 years. And, Greece will probably loose a few islands and Therace to Turkey shortly. The EU will say Cyprus is a Dis-Trusted Partner, we dont want them. and in this video is FAKE NEWs. FAKE Propaganda. Only an un-educated person believes these.

Nepotism and having connections are problems that a lot of people engage in indeed, but much smaller than literally being paid to issue passports to criminals and legitimize them. Just because both are examples of corruption, that doesn't equate them, nor does it mean that the average person would be willing to partake in such schemes. Some people are simply worse/more corrupt than others and it is in no way unjustified for common people to look in disgust at people that are so corrupt as the people involved in this scheme are. If you think that's the case, ask yourself if you would personally do it. If you answer no, perhaps you'd like to pay due benefit of the doubt for all other people who would also answer with no.

Many people in the private sector have lost their jobs, their income. Government helped with schemes. But there were people who committed swicide. There are still a lot of people who live in poverty. Public employees too, because of the CUTS. Our Government tried very hard, but WE PAID THE PRICE. We the people. Many of us, are REFUGEES IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. WE PAID FOR A SECOND TIME IN OUR LIFE. ONCE, IN 1974, BECAUSE OF THE BARBAROUS TURKISH INVASION OF 1974, when Turkey invaded Cyprus, by sea, by air, by land, killing, bombarding, raping. People were killed, others are STILL MISSING, 200,000 became refugees, lost our homes. I AM ONE OF THEM. So, 46 years have passed, Turkey is still there, keeping by force, by turkish troops our homes. In 2011 when the financial crisis started, we had again to undergo a major financial loss. We paid it very dearly in this country. WE THE PEOPLE. The simple people. Employees, middle incone citizens and companies. So PROSPERITY IS NOT A WAY OF LIFE, as you mentioned in your report. Its not true it doesnot represent reality its biased and is, according to my OPINION, serving other interests that have nothing to do with real journalism. I am Electra Panayiotou from Cyprus. A refugee in my own country because of the barbarous turkish invasion of 1974. People in this country have suffered a lot. We still do, because of the financial crisis, this time. Since 2011. Stop playing with people, with peoples feelings.

    But they are emty.
Rent is rellatively high for what you get in these towns. This whole passport sceme created a huge bubble which will burst.
This is not the only thing in Cyprus, but time will tell. Next one are the companys. Im just saying CYSEC ;)
Regarding the Dokumentary, how stupid can u be and reveal everything to the client?
If u have a working System/Sceme, why explain everything and reveal so much.

I'd love to see Al Jazeera do an undercover investigation against Qatar's human rights violations like the exploitation and abuse of migrant workers (which sometimes amounts to forced labour) or an undercover investigation against Turkey and its government which currently holds the title for most jailed journalists. I wonder what Al Jazeera's motives were to start an investigation against the Cypriot government? I'm not saying that what they've done isn't horrible, but surely there are other worse examples of government corruption around the world. Compared to those, the Cyprus papers are nothing, but that's not what Al Jazeera wants you to believe.. interesting..
