  • Since I determined that the babbitt bearings for my 8" Buss Machinery company jointer needed better contact area for the shaft, and I finally had all the parts and pieces (prussian blue high spot paste) to do it, this video is where I work and scrape in the four bearing surfaces.
Of the two, the cap improved the most, but even the base has better coverage than it did initially. So overall I think it should be better. It also runs a lot quieter and with less vibration with the new motor mounts so that is also good. Overall this was a productive weekend for working on some of the remaining jointer steps. I am glad the babbitt bearing scraper that I bought on ebay worked, and it worked fairly well.
Assuming the oil doesn't leak out as much (if so I have felt to try and use and/or could do deeper grooves in the bearings), then the next steps for this setup is to try and make a took to remove the custom 100+ yr old head bolts so I can replace the blades with new ones and better align them with the table and each other. As the existing blades are not both set right, and have lots of nicks in them.
