@malp1 indeed. But not everyone realize it's a direct quote from Rosenkavalier, as musical lovers and Sondheim fans are not necessarily opera connoisseurs.
@@69EBubu yes, of course, but I was referring to comment by the poster above that this was the "FIRST TIME I HAVE HEARD THE FABULOUS FRENCH HORN 8th note 5 measure riff over the final chord!!!!!!!!"
I remember the first time I saw Susan Hampshire was on The Forsyte Saga. The first look at her was through a sculpture in an art exhibit, her face perfectly framed. I live in the US and haven't seen her much through the years. She's still stunningly beautiful and her voice is perfect for that role. The Forsyte Saga was also the first time I saw Margaret Tyzak, playing one of the few characters who made it through almost all of the series.
I was anticipating Henrik's appearance-- a fine looking fellow-- and then the guy comes in and looks like an accountant! ; )
BRAVO! Excellent version. FIRST TIME I HAVE HEARD THE FABULOUS FRENCH HORN 8th note 5 measure riff over the final chord!!!!!!!!
And at 5:44 the horn quote of the opening of Strauss' der Rosenkavalier. A genius wink to those who can hear it.
@@69EBubu really? I think both of these French horn sections are clearly audible on the OBC recording.

I love seeing Everyone's individual recording process; the Carl Magnus conducting is so endearing and of course Maria Friedman is absolutely luminous.
WOW! Thnx so much! This recording is so bright and alive.
Thrilling!!!
This is absolutely marvellous. Susan Hampshire!
The best version I recall of this masterpiece.

I was recently at a party in London and Susan Hampshire was there. She’s exactly the same! As for Margaret Tyzack, one of my all time favourites.
Janis Kelly is an amazing soprano. I love her voice so much. Thanks for posting this clip.
What a complete GEM thank you for uploading this! I wore out this recording
LadyLizaElliott thank you
The only thing missing was: APPLAUSE!!!!👏❤❤❤
She's wearing a HAT at a recording studio.
This is so gooooood
So so good!
I never noticed the horn reference to “Der Rosenkavalier!”
Yes! So many similarities between the two works plot-wise!
do you mean the horns in the last few seconds?
The horns start at 5:45.
The lady with the purple cardigans voice is incredible
Janis "purple cardigan" Kelly.
