    We love this breed. A friend of ours has some and we always take care of them when he works out of town. We just got our own 4 chicks to raise last night. We do live in a neighborhood, but everyone around us is pretty tolerant of animals so I hope they won’t bother anyone.

    I have a Rhodie Roo and hen I raised in a batch of peeps I purchased at the farm store last spring. He is so beautiful and the sweetest boy that loves attention and engaging. His name is Polo Rojo and his 'sister' is Miss Lucy. Everyone that meets him loves Polo Rojo. I Do spoil my chickens, though.🐓😊

      You got lucky.
      I had a Rhode Island Red roo and he was a straight up psychopath. If it was within his field of view it got attacked, except for me. He thought I was a bigger rooster and never challenged me. Meaner than a bodybuilder jacked up on steroids. The hens on the other hand are sweet little girls

    like your video ! I have one called Ginger! She is nosey! And curious and even follows me inside always looking for food or a treat but encouraged her to go forage with the rest of the flock free-range and have had a lot of ticks and in less than 6 months has gotten 90% better and her eggs are nice and round. Though out of endearment I sometimes call her my Red headed step child for being nosey and curious about what I am doing....she is a enjoyment and I do recommend this Breed....I had started a new flock when I moved and had a buff bantam Japanese rooster and mother hen who raised a Rhode island red and two wyandottes besides two of her own.....the Rooster helped raise them and found food would call the chicks over to eat when they where out foraging so they all had good parents but out of These breeds the Rhode island red seems to be the friendliest and enjoys human company more than the others though when I work outside the whole flock seems to follow me and stay close by...and when I find a grub or grasshoppers or on occasion give them treats and whistle when I'm out on the property so they know I'm there and usually come to greet me and I know they staying out of trouble... next time the mother hen wants to hatch some eggs I'll definitely like to hatch some of Ginger's be very interesting to see a Japanese Rhode island red cross...
    Thanks for the video and happy Farming!

    When I was young my father made me look after his chooks. The work seemed neverending.
    I'd often said to him I'll never have chooks as long as I live.
    Now I'm retired, we have our dog and budgie but now I want chooks.when your young all you want to do is play or just go bush. You just remember all the bad things about home jobs.
    Not the peace chooks give or the real eggs and meat you get.The most amazing relaxing feeling of sitting in the back yard with them feeding and scratching around you.
    2 breeds I remember are the RIR and a black and white speckled chook. I find it eventually.
    Most people I've spoken to try to get you to shows and set you up for breeding. No thanks, just want all the relaxing parts of these pets.

    I’ve heard so many different things re RIR’s, some say they’re talkative, but not loud, as hens. I decided to get 2 of them, and give them a try. One is already bully at less than 2 weeks old. I went and met some adults first. I didn’t find them loud, just wanting of attention, which my son liked.

    Not as aggressive as some of the more natural (jungle) breeds but I wouldn't say they are friendly or tame. I've been around this breed for well over 40 years and it's my favorite breed. I sure wouldn't suggest them to somebody with just a small backyard flock or a first time chicken owner. I also wouldn't suggest them to somebody wanting them for lap pets.

    • @johnhildenbrand2642
      @johnhildenbrand2642 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My first chicken was a Rhode Island Red, she was great, consistent egg production, not terribly loud, gentle enough without being a lap chicken, it was fantastic for a backyard bird that was procured for eggs, and she worked very well as assistant gardener, clearing out pests, bugs and left over garden scraps

      I'm a new chicken mom. I got 3 ISA and 2 Easters chics. The ISA love me, the Easters are horrible and act like I'm trying to murder them. I've started questioning if they're Easters bc I don't think so. I believe they're actually RIR and your description is exactly how mine act

    • @johnhildenbrand2642
      @johnhildenbrand2642 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @despicabledavidshort3806 You'll find out soon enough, if they lay blue eggs you've got Eggers, honestly there's too much plumage difference between Red's and Eggers to confuse them. Also, be very careful with using attitudes as a determination for chickens, while you would be justified in your wisdom with the "average" bird acting a certain way, there's no accounting for an individual bird, especially for small flocks and backyard type keepers, you'll eventually end up with a Red that's a lap chicken or an Egger that is a beast, just how it goes

    do rhode island reds brood or heat-up their own eggs after laying? please reply asap. i have RIR laying eggs but i dont see them brooding or heating up the eggs.. ir do i still need to wait? as it is still producing eggs

    • @Agronomag
      @Agronomag  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rhode Island Reds might brood their eggs, but it's hit or miss. If your hen isn't sitting on her eggs yet, give her some time. She might still be in laying mode. If she doesn't start brooding and you want chicks, you might need an incubator.

    RIR are a great breed. I have a RIR rooster and 8 Hens in my flock and I have quite a few mix chicken. ❤ this breed and love there ex large brown eggs. Mine are not that vocal. I have other breeds that are more vocal. My Rooster is very mean to anyone other than us. Mine love roaming in the back yard!! Hardy. ❤❤ our RIR chickens.

    The reason I have never liked rhode island reds was the rooster attitude when it hits adulthood . The are always mean . The hens are also aggressive against other hens . I have had chickens for over 50 years . My favorite for egg production is red star . Some of the pictures you show on this video are sexlink hens .

      Mine don't like brooms. lol. Try feeding them a slice of colby jack cheese broken up in little pieces. Just have your boat paddle handy because they really love cheese, like in an abnormal way. It's pretty funny.

    To me it's the best. Even in this video some were not RI reds. They have a deep red color with black on the outside of each feather. Bright yellow feet peaks and eyes. No white color at all. They r hardly strong and healthy. Loud yes very smart and nosey. Shaped like a brick straight front straight backs straight hind ends. Yummy meat large brown eggs 300 a year.

      HERITAGE RIR are often sold "washed out" by large breed sales barns. As i any breed, you have to select for quality and all the standards of perfection in the breed book.

    Our family got 5 egg laying chicken. 3 died in less than a year. One is alive but not laying eggs anymore. Only 1 out of 5 is fully functioning as egg laying is concerned. We religiously clean their quarters, we give them plenty of water and feed. Why would 3 die and 1 stopped laying eggs. The ratio is 1 out 5, not good for Rhode Island red. Anyone knows why this happens when you raise this kind of breed?

    • @Agronomag
      @Agronomag  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm really sorry to hear about the challenges you're facing with your chickens. There could be several reasons for the issues you're experiencing, including disease, stress, nutrition, or environmental factors. Rhode Island Reds are generally hardy and good layers, so this is pretty unusual.

    The meat was tough on mine.dark meat was like turkey leg meat,and breast was like grocery store dark meat covered in layer of rubber bands. To much exercise maybe?

    • @user-neo71665

      Sounds more like they were older birds. If you are comparing it to grocery store chicken that is young birds (broilers) and butchered around 2 months old.
