DO MUSLIM ARTISTS GET AWAY WITH HAVING LOW STANDARDS? - Baraka Boys Podcast (Season 2, Ep.8)

  • Over the centuries Muslim artists have been some of the most renowned producers of art and culture throughout the world. From the architecture of Central Asia and West Africa, to Persian poets and the emergence of Qawali in the Indian subcontinent. Considering this rich cultural history, do Muslim artists in the West get away with producing low quality art? Art that is applauded by Muslim communities, but would not hold up to scrutiny in the mainstream, and doesn't meet the high artistic standards of our past. Does the term "Islamic art" even make sense, and what qualifies a piece of art as being "Islamic"?
    This season we're taking the podcast to a whole new level. You can watch this episode over on the brand new Baraka Boys TH-cam channel. The podcast is also now available as an audio podcast on Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.

    IT'D BE SIKKK TO HEAR YOU ALL DISCUSS IF YOU THINK THAT NOT TRULY HAVING SELF LOVE, CAN EFFECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ALLAH AND PREVENT YOU FROM TRULY CONNECTING WITH ALLAH. I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS BEFORE AND I'D LOVE TO HEAR SOMEONE ELSES PRESPECTIVE ON IT. BARE PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY THAT YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO LOVE SOMEONE ELSE BEFORE YOU LOVE YOURSELF... BUT HOW ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH ALLAH?

    The main issue is artists passing content off as Islamic when there is no adherence to the Quran and Sunnah.
    Surely Islam = Quran and Sunnah not mere cultural norms.

    For me the point with the identity crisis made a lot of sense. I remember, when I started practicing Islam, I stopped listenening to trap and stuff because it didnt match with the „muslim identity“. As a result of that, I started to search the „halal“ alternatives and settled for low quality music, because that matched to this „muslim“ identity that I was trying to create.

    Lastly when it comes to allah swt will preserve and protect r deen ur right he will alhamdulilah but Allah swt gave us the responsibility and obligations of this deen just like he gave it to muhammad saw and the sahbah radiallatanajmaeen y did rasooallah saw carry on struggling and striving for this deen if Allah was gunna do it anyways y did the sahabah radiallah talan protect this deen and rasooallah saw with there wealth and there lives and would sacrifice there land there family's and there lives for the protection of rasooallah saw and this deen and u khalid spoke about yunas alyhisalaam he left his obligation and then was put in the belly of the fish and the fish's stomach is full of acids bcus they don't chew ther food much just swallow it and rely on the acids to break it down soo his skin was pealed off and he was in the darkness of the fish in the darkness of the sea in the darkness of the night but then he made istigifar but my point is Allah aswjal gave us the obligation to do it to protect this deen and his messenger and if we don't he can just replace us but we will be in the wrong

    Feel like you guys had a topic with potential and the new dude probably hit the nail on the head. These new Muslim artists feel trapped, they don't have a western influence really because pretty much all of them have a different cultural background, then they have the whole no music and halal af lyrics that have to be about the prophet and Allah and when you compress and restrict an artist's creativity like that, they're forced to put out lower quality material because they're tryna tick too many boxes that the Islamic community forces upon them. Not to mention the amount of hate that they'd get, like Khaled does if they don't put out "Islamic music". Some of them have potential, I think Siedd has massive potential but I think he's being held back by the audience that listens to his songs.

    • @Alice-qn8to
      @Alice-qn8to 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to disagree on one point. Creativity does not decrease in quality because there are restrictions, in fact it will flourish in other ways by being honed and developed. This can be seen in the plethora of Islamic art during the Golden age, as Muslims we aren’t allowed to depict nudity faces etc and there is some dispute about that, yet Islamic art became the standard for architecture, mosaics, carpentry and poetry. True artistry will not cease because of some restrictions.

    If we have to comprise our content within our music to please non Muslims then we have lost the way I believe, I don't think it's a good Idea to put the idea that Muslims artist are below par with content or talent, I thinks it's simply bcoz they have not reached mainstream and that is the only reason why some say it below par, a real Muslim artist will probably never reach mainstream as it is the world of shaytaan. Create our own environment and support it regardless of the mainstreams views nor support 🙏🏽💯

    ManshAllah !!! De mon point de vue, je pense que nous, musulmans, devons apprendre à avoir des normes élevées, le domaine n'a pas d'importance! Mais les concepts de croissance, de mieux faire ..., devraient toujours être dans notre esprit, mon cheikh a dit une fois >
    Quelqu'un a mentionné l'idée que ihsan se développe au-delà de notre «culte», je suis entièrement d'accord avec lui !!!
    Pourquoi Abou Bakr (RA) voulait entrer au paradis à travers toutes les portes (je veux dire, une me suffit 😂) mais oui c'est l'idée d'ihsan !!!

    It's not muslim artists who get away with low standards. It's muslim who actually try to represent the Deen in their art or keep it halal who get away with low standards. I think maybe people are either amazed that they were able to use popular art and make it cool and halal. Or that people don't want to push to the point that the artist feels pressured to over perform and resort to haram again.So long story short, we applaud more the intention than the art itself. Example : young artist who started with nasheed now try to keep up with the world and up the standard by adding instruments to their song.They should not be considered muslim artists anymore, we can just call them artists

    • @kingEyeSami
      @kingEyeSami 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also we need to be patient with ourselves as Muslims. This modern Muslim art movement is very new. Hip-hop wasn't popping immediately when it was created. It was considered messy, low standard and weird while all the other genres while thriving. Maybe in 20 years, muslim art is gonna be done in the best standards possible

      dimlight what are you talking about? you're telling me these are the role models for the Muslim young youth of today! wearing earrings? Earrings and bracelets are forms of adornment for women, and Ibn Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed men who make themselves look like women and women who make themselves look like men. (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 5435). does this sound like I'm judging upon myself? let me ask you dimlight are tattoos haram? would you like it if your son or daughter got tattoos because they thought it was cool? Praise be to Allaah.
      Tattooing, in which the skin is pierced with a needle and a blue or other colored dye is injected, is haraam in all forms, whether it causes pain or not, because it involves changing the creation of Allaah, and because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed the one who does tattoos and the one for whom that is done. In al-Saheehayn it is narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “May Allaah curse the women who do tattoos and those for whom tattoos are done, those who pluck their eyebrows and those who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification and alter the creation of Allaah.” (al-Bukhaari, al-Libaas, 5587; Muslim, al-Libaas, 5538). like I said please don't follow these brothers on matters of Islam! Allah guide me and them, Ameen. enough said Quran and sunnah when it comes to the deen.

      That stuff in brackets is not in the Quran, it is the translator's own opinion.
      There is no prohibition on music in the Quran.
      It is disingenuous to share what you shared, as to those unaware they'd mistake the bracketed parts as actually being in the Quran when they are in fact not.
