How can this be Scriabin playing? This recording is too high quality. Who is this incredible pianist?

@@isaacparlin3070 Maybe the Uploader is talking about that this is a piece composed by Scriabin for the piano, but it's a confusing description indeed.

Shazam thinks it is Boris Bekhterev, from a disc containing all the Impromptus and some other early works. But I don't know how accurate Shazam is with music of this sort - it did give me a couple of way-off guesses before settling on Boris Bekhterev.

@@michaeledwards1172 Wow, I can't believe you got it using Shazam!! Sounds like it's correct: th-cam.com/video/y1hWBLxZw28/w-d-xo.htmlsi=akt2ZxttZ2KNG2Vv Boris Bekhterev is a new name to me and I will be listening to lots more of him for sure. Thank you!

I knew it couldn't be Scriabin, because the performance was too accurate. The funny thing is that I love Scriabin's music, but dislike his playing - too ridden with rubato, exaggerated rhythms, and just generally sloppy and all over the place. He sometimes wrote very intricate rhythms; but what's the point of doing that if you don't even attempt to follow them?
I recommend Ruth Laredo's recording of the 10 sonatas, plus some etudes and a few other small bits and pieces. She follows the rhythms accurately, and she also knows how to use the pedal for this music, whereas some pianists tend to use it too little, giving an unfortunate dryness to the music.
