Thank you Steinar. We haven’t found a way to explain the Angelina effect and I’m not trying either. I simply can’t. But I found studying a little how the brain works and how emotions play a role very interesting.
With Angelina, I feel a connection with her in every cell of my body that is concentrated in my heart where she is a part of me. My brain only recognizes that connection, and wonders, what is the meaning of this, why is this happening to me and why is this getting stronger every day. The answer I come up with is there must be something more, call it spiritual or a third dimension that connects us together in a profound and more meaningful way that our limited understanding registers as love.
I go another step Robert by saying she becomes an easy connection for us to make with other people. When we offer up as a gift to a friend or family member, cashier, Uber driver, I’m hoping that if AJ affects them, like her singing has us, we have just created a connection/friend for life. They will always assoc me/you with intro to her. Especially your very young family members who will hear AJ 50 years from now when we’re all gone, and think of us. Thx my friend! 🥂
Every time I get emotional (which happens to me about every second) while experiencing her performances, I get emotional because I recognize Angelina's musical genius.
I have always been interested in art. Some years ago, I had the good fortune to visit a gallery which displayed something I had never seen…an original Monet or El Greco. I remember being just overcome with emotion, realizing that I was in front of a piece of art that they actually touched, actually created, not to mention the absolute beauty of the art work itself. I get exactly the same reaction when listening to Angelina sing. And it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve heard the song, it gets me every time. Much love and thanks to all of you for doing this.
Thanks Adriaan for another thought provoking episode. Just another positive Angelina provides, keeping our minds sharp. She inspires us in so many ways and I encourage all angels to be creative in finding new ways to help spread the LOVE Angelina provides us.
Thanks for another wonderful podcast. I think one of the things i continue to be amazed at as I listen to Angelina is that no matter how many times I hear a song I always feel that it never gets old....I never want to switch to the next song or next artist. I have several Angelina playlists and I listen to them over and over again....listening to them brings me a sense of comfort....and well being....no matter how many times I have listened to them.
I think the difference is Angelina feels the songs she sings Her brain perceived the words to be for her.andshe goes to where that writer took her or where she felt the words she herself wrote
We are beings of pure consciousness, as such we create our own experience, if you chose a thing and feel strongly about it, this will be your experience and will confirm to you what you believe, but this is only one truth , there are far greater realities to experience when you chose, I have never felt a thing with the brain , I live what I call the way of the heart , it informs me of everything I require in the moment I require it , My life has been a magical experience that was always there but not available until I allowed it , the divine is the most natural simple experience but the brain likes to complicate things to experience beyond the brain simply be quiet and calm and be in harmony without judgement and magic will happy . Angelina does this naturally when she sings.💗👣
Good morning Gentlemen, awesome Podcast! This is my 2 cents, just my opinion, no facts. Remember the interview when she was 9 and read from her Diary section she wrote at the age of 6? She reflected Wisdom not known until someone has experienced life to me at least 50 years minimum. The way she articulates the wording was of high level writing. Plus take in the timing, alt the way from 2006 up to 2023, darkest period in the World in over 100 years, (World War II). She was born 2006 and things are starting to appear as the World is waking up to the Evil in the World and are starting to wake up and retaliate. Funny, she just turned 18, go figure, and she touches a lot of the Negative People out there, coincidence, I think not. I'm a man of Faith, and I believe God is using her to reach the non-believer in a way that isn't offensive, but softening their Hearts. You know if you read the Bible and follow its instructions you can have a very comfortable life full of Peace and Comfort. Not saying Bad things can't happen, remember God gives us Free Will, forces nothing on man, so unfortunately one can get caught up in the Evil. The Demise is only temporary, at the end of Life in the Flesh, whether your a believer or not, immediately all pain and worries are gone. My opinion, God Bless!
Hi Alan, Pontus and Adriaan; I agree with Alan that the logical operations of the brain don’t initiate our responses to stimulus. And I agree with the explanation that Adriaan proposes that the brain is not only logical operations. There is conscious, subconscious, nonconscious and unconscious aspects to our brains. What I feel most often are the subconscious reactions to hearing her, seeing her, seeing, and feeling the emotional expressions of fellow listeners. Like Pontus, I cried many times to Angelina, sometimes a second and third time to the same song. Like Adriaan I cried while sharing, although remotely, with the first-time reactions of others. I know some sounds can seem to bypass my brain, which agrees with Alan, but the ears go to the brain, then to the body, which the brain is also a member of. Thank you all for the stimulating conversation. Your fan, and fellow Angel, Patrick Murphy.
Another great episode guys! Though we try sometimes to describe the emotions and feelings Angelina gives us when we hear her sing, it's still quite difficult to give a precise reason why she gives us goosebumps or why she makes us so emotional. We can probably take every reason we hear from people and it still wouldn't be a complete definition in what she does to us. I guess we will just have to keep listening to her music and be in amazement for the time being, which isn't a bad thing! Thank you Adriaan for appearing on this episode!
I can’t give any reason why she makes me so emotional. It’s a mystery, but fascinating. I’ve started studying the brain. It doesn’t solve the mystery, but it’s interesting to learn how emotions work. The brain puts different emotional “labels” on the feelings that come in, using certain rules. Fascinating as well. Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you liked the episode.
Robert, First may I applaud your career and dedication to increasing are understanding of what it is to be human. As a lay person with an interest to know more on this subject, I made a copied of your comment, to start my exploration. It may be synchronicity but I became aware of a documentary, just three days ago, on this very subject. Where do I begin?..................................................... First of all, "Hello Alan and Pontus! Continued success with all your ventures!" And to Adriaan, "What a pleasure it was to meet you in Portsmouth. Of course we were all there to see Angelina but it was also so nice to meet so many 'angels'. " Gentlemen, to me it is so clear what is going on and I really believe when I put it into words often times I get a reply from someone who says they didn't understand how they felt the way they did when they listened to Angelina and after reading one of my comments they thanked me for telling them what just happened to them!!!!!! There are so many people who are totally confused. They would like to know what is going on but it's not imperative they find out. They wonder how can I know how they feel and I explain there are perhaps millions of people around the world who feel the same way and it's another way Angelina is bringing us together. I heard the words mechanics, addictive, sound, the brain, logical, and more in your conversation and they are commonly used in various explanations of the Angelina 'mystique'. Pontus, I believe you were the first to bring up the word 'soul' and there is a bit of irony there considering your non religious connection. Guys, when we listen to her sing she is singing 'for us' as well as to us. And what we are reacting to is her genuine soulfulness which transitions into a form of pure love when she sings and our hearts cannot resist. Hearts? What happened to the brain? When we listen to her we get goosebumps, start to tear up with the urge to cry and find it difficult to speak during or just after a performance. What is the brain doing at this time? It has absolutely no clue and it is impossible for a person to try to put an explanation together to explain what just happened to them. They were totally mesmerized by her 'soulful' voice, they hardly move a muscle doing her performance and emotionally reacted to the ebb and flow of 'every word' that Angelina sang, so much so they became emotionally drained after the song ended. She takes us all into her world when she sings and we go willingly. Our brain is not telling us to go there, our heart AND OUR SOUL is telling us to go there. As soon as she starts to sing the last thought our brain has is, "Oh, here we go again!" And because she touches our soul through our heart we are deeply influenced by her and 'who she is' because we have immediately recognized she is GENUINE. It is not an act or just the sound of her voice. It is the beauty of her soul which can make us cry EVEN WHEN WE THINK OF HER OR SEE HER ANYWHERE EVEN WHEN SHE ISN'T SINGING. A phenomenon, yes, but in living color! She has told us many, many times she wants to do what she can to help make the world a better place to live for everyone, particularly children and for those less fortunate. When we hear her say it we don't write it off as some nice words. We believe her WITH ALL OUR HEART because she is GENUINE. She can't do it alone and she needs our support to make it happen. Therefore, because we carry her soulfulness with us 24 HOURS A DAY we strive to be the best we can be as kinder, more caring and loving human beings in our lives than we have ever been before. Ask any angel if that is exactly the way they feel? How about you three? How do you feel? See what I mean? Why do we always tell people in our lives about Angelina? I heard you say to share our feelings with others. That's correct but let's take it a step further. We know after we chat with someone about her and say good-bye we have a smile on our face because we are so happy for them because we know what's going to happen to them. Why would we expect them to act any differently than we did? Yes, there are people who 'resist' letting her affect them because of a variety of reasons. Jealousy, too busy to listen, objects to the style of her singing and not to become emotional and feel vulnerable. Those people, like Pontus' wife and a lady friend of mine, THEY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON BUT THEY WILL NOT TELL US. But, you know what, they will come around. Her genuine soulfulness is not pointed to a particular type of person. It encompasses everyone. A person's gender, age, color, language, religion, occupation, wealth, musical preference, it makes no difference. Look at some of the reactors who have come aboard with us. First look at them we would never think they would become an Angelina angel but, BECAUSE OF THE GENUINE SOULFULNESS OF HER VOICE, that 'Rap' person, or Country person, or classical singer will join us on her journey. So, what happens to the brain during this period of time? Do we just walk around like a zombie like in a fog? In the beginning, yes. But, soon after we start to put the pieces together and realize it's good that we have discovered her and that SHE HAS ACTUALLY CHANGED EACH ONE OF OUR LIVES. Adriaan, you put it perfectly when you described how you react to an aggressive driver on the road. By this time your brain has figured out the affect she has on you and you are logically able to function 'normally' but, at the same time, feeling the presence of her soul within you. Otherwise you might have given that driver 'the finger' or cut him off and not let him in.
Post script: (I actually hit the wrong button!!!!!) I wanted to end it by saying aren't we so fortunate she is among us and that sooner than later ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD will know who Angelina Jordan is? And, it is important to note she will always remain Angelina. She will not sprout wings and soar over us. She will remain the beautiful human being she is and do what she loves to do, to sing for us and bring us joy, and hope and the feeling of love from her heart and soul. And, we must, and will, remain very close to her because she needs to feed off of us if ever she needs strength in a particular moment which might arise. "Thanks, guys! Take care."
Definitely less is more with AJ. How many say to their family or friends when listening to a music awards shows, anthem during football, etc, that these singers are good, but they’re not in AJ’s league? 🙋🏻♂️
It is indeed interesting when you have a discussion between a scientist and non- scientist. Thanks for your patience, Adriaan. There is no answer as to why. Nature and nurture both play a part, and they are individually variable. I also think we like to share for personal validation. "Am I the only one who feels this way?" Now, we know we're not. Yay! We're not crazy! I was an instant angel with BR. But, there are other folks who have connected instantly as well. They, however, as you folks suggested, didn't keep doing it. I think many Swifties feel the same about Taylor. I don't. We have some angels who really like The Warning". They do nothing for/to me. Taste, interpretation, physical response, perceived connection are just what they are. And I, for one, am glad I found and became a "fan boy " of Angelina. I live in a happier world because of it.
Thank you for your comment Gary. I agree. But I did some research and checked out vocal coaches to make sure I wasn’t crazy before sharing it widely (and wildly) with my family and friends :)
Pontus and Adriaan touched on a side topic, of the numerous songs from Angelina that have that magic, let us call it. That is how I fell into the rabbit hole: I was retired, bored, and looking up singers that I once heard on AGT or some other shows that I remembered liking from the past when I was too busy to follow anyone. I wanted to see if they did more things that I liked. I remembered the name Grace Vanderwaal and was eager to see how her talent developed. But I didn’t like anything else that she was doing. Even an established singer like Nora Jones who’s ‘I Don’t Know Why’ I loved, didn’t follow up with the “magic”. Then I saw Angelina Jordan again. I remembered loving her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. By this time, I was expecting disappointment. I then listened to ‘I Put a Spell on You’. What a song, what a performance. I was happily surprised and then listened to cover after cover of the most captivating singing I have ever heard. The ‘Magic’ was in every song. I the past I wished to live during the times of great singers, like Nat King Cole or Edith Piaf, or singers that sounded like the sirens of the seas in movies. Wow! Now I am! Angelina is IMO the best singer ever. For me, that’s saying a lot. I love Nat King Cole, Celine Dion, Linda Ronstadt… Angelina is a genius, she is/was a prodigy, and she works tirelessly on top of her gifts, because it is what she is. And Angelina brings something extra to the stories being told in music and lyrics. Something that must start at the youngest of ages, when the brain is hard wired to develop communication which fades with time, in this case a communication through music and song, not language. An almost physical connection, an understanding so deep that she can not only communicate with words, but she sings with feeling, emotions, empathy… without having think about it, or to have experienced the particulars herself. And having the life that allowed and encouraged this to grow in her, This is the Magic!
Yes well said, Jojo. There are multiple magics connected to Angelina. Her family has allowed her to develop her superb natural gift. But I also think that Angelina had such a drive, from a young age, that her family could do little else than follow her. Very young she was already “the boss” of the orchestra. Surely her grandmother was a driving force too, while mom and dad were probably more insisting on her education. Whatever the setting was, it has played out in the best way for her and for us fans, I think.
@@adriaanrijllart5213 Thank you. I say this because you, and many ask how, how can she do this, she is too young. She is physically gifted with exceptional larynx, diaphragm, long neck, and round face. She was able to, and took advantage of musical schooling, and still is. With gram-ma encouragement, she learned from an early age to appreciate music and to communicate in thought and emotions. Also, she had Etta James, Amy Winehouse and others as foundations to learn from and models of possibilities. With all these things, and committed hard work, she blends, molds, adds new sounds and techniques onto everything, and communes her musical magic with unrivaled emotion depth. I love her beautiful rich voice, the rasp and runs, and her musical genius. But the emotional connection is my is my addiction, my dearest love, my addiction. Thanks
Hi Alan, Pontus and Adriaan. This was a wonderful discussion. I've thought about this topic quite a bit throughout my life. I majored in Psycholgy and Mathematics and minored in Philosophy in college and even went to graduate school in cognitive psycholgy to try to answer this question. At that time no satisfying answer seemed apparent to me, so I switched paths and studied Electrcal and Biomedical Engineering to approach this problem. At CMU we had two groups on our hall. On one side were the audition folks studying hearing and I worked in vision even though I was also a musician at the time. The sound folks were quite successful, producing early forms of an artificial cochlea. Vision was not as amenable to the systems theory approach we were taking. So our dreams of giving sight to the blind had to wait until some of the relatively recent work that is taking place today. I spent my career working in artificial intelligence and robotics until I retired a while back. If I couldn't give sight to the blind, I could give it to machines. Much progress has been made in your stated topic. I won't go into detail here, but I will recomend some avenues to explore for people wanting to go deeper into this topic. In Philosophy start with Spinosa. He is the wellspring for a scientific approach to this subject. Modern authors on this include Mark Johnson, Francisco Varela, Douglas Hofsatadter and Daniel Dennet. In general science look at the fields of complexity theory, criticality theory, neural network theory and evolutionary algorithmics by authors too numerous to mention. Anybody associated with the Santa Fe Institute are good sources. A readable overview of this is "The Romance of Reality" by neuroscientist Bobby Azerian. In neuroscience proper all of the books by Antonio Damasio and Mark Solms will take you far into this topic. I mean down to a few millimeters. These are bottom up guys. Anil Seth approaches this from the top down. And finally for a neurobiological approach to the impact Angelina Jordan has on us I recommend "Musicophilia" by Neurologist Oliver Sachs and "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goldman. You can safely explore all these folks without BS or wandering into a metaphysical weedpatch. I hope at least a few Angels found this of interest.❤
Hi Robt, Thanks for that. Obviously we were never going to find an 'answer' to the imponderable. But we were happy to provide 'food for thought' around the great AJ mystery. Our priority was also not to make it too scientifically high powered. We wanted to reach the Average Joe. There's a word in the English language which is not very much used. It is 'somatopsychic'. It is when someone has an emotional reaction for physical reasons. The Greeks understood this implicitly when they attributed temperament to the various 'humors' in the body 'Emotional intelligence' is a popular phrase. But what about physical intelligence? Every cell in my body 'knows' what to do, 'understands' the greater good, 'knows' how to band together. My body doesn't need my brain 24/7. My body understands automatic pilot
Alan that is exactly where modern neurobiology it pointing. From inherent homeostatic systems in all life forms ranging from single cellular to complex multicellular the forces that promote stabilty also promote a path to greater complexity as well. This culminates in consciousnes in beings with sufficiently complex nervous systems. According to the emerging school of thought called evolutionary epistomology, the Aristotilian drive for "all people to know" can be traced back to evolutionary success in autocatylitic sets of molecules. Damasio postulates that the protoself emerges from homeostatic systems in the body. He not only theorizes about this, but has also traced this to specific regions of the brain stem from lesion studies in his neurology patients. For Neurologists this is not a matter of armchair speculation, but rather a matter of life and death. As they relate tragic conditions of coma, vegitative states and other abnormalities of consciousness to loci of lesions due to trama or stroke, they are these patients only hope of living or regaining some quality of life through therapies that take advantage of the neural plasticity in the embodied brain. This broad area of thought in science and philosophy has been labeled meta-modernism. Maybe one day you and Pontus will be hailed as early forerunners with your insightful discussions and Angelina one of the first embodiments with her simple motto of "be kind and spread love" and her expressive artistry. I'm only half joking. If true it would be a wonderful thing, given all the strife we see today.
@@thealanpapierAlan, a lot of cells in your body don’t need your brain, I think you are right. But the brain is not only the conscious part, there’s also a small part called the brain stem and it fulfills lots of functions that can be described by the word “autopilot”.
Like Pontus, I amused and distracted myself watching the “kids got talent“ franchises in their various forms. Undoubtedly there is so much astonishing talent and this is what happened to me when I saw this astonishingly confident “moppet” introducing herself by name, her family and her purpose “to be a world wide singing superstar “ her mother checked her excitement by asking “are you ready, in here? ( holding her hand on Angelina’s heart) Angelina replied yes and was exhorted to go and give them some jazz, the rest is history her performance her confidence gobsmacking. The judges, the audience and In turn the world. That’s where it began for me, where like so many others I watched her grow from a confident talented little girl into a confident accomplished young woman, even though still a teenager. Thank you guys for helping me appreciate the sense of community both the Angel’s community and how it can does and should spread. Wow for me it’s almost as if you Angels have been moderators of a bible study. Thanks god bless and keep up the good work. Cheers from Australia 🦘🇦🇺
I’m glad I made you discover this song! Should not be missed by any Angelina fan. What she can express in an almost careless way. Mesmerizing, like you say. Hearing this, the brain triggers feelings and the whole body reacts: heart, skin, back, eyes, …
I think that Angelina needs time to go to college, or to a top music academy, so she have time to develop all her art, and to get away from the bussines side of music. That last song that you presented in the video will never be a "Top Ten" in sales, but is and example of an artist that dig deep within herself to express her feelings, and in my humble opinion, that is the reason that she touches some people so deep. I hope that she never uses her time, and her art looking for a place in the music industry, that is famous for using artists for making money, and that is not necessarily wrong, but is boring, useless and inconsequencial.
IT'S been reported that angelina intends to attend juliard arts college ? this may be a short course for advanced singers ? when angelina signed to republic records aged 14 , that imo was a big indicator of her desire to look for a place in the music industry , republic records have taken things very slow with angelina content to let her gain experience and hone her craft , but they are a business and eventually she will need to be a successful recording artist , we know what will happen if she doesn't .
I hope that Angelina and her family will find a good balance between producing art and earning money. I agree with you that the money making part is boring, but Angelina is too much of an artist to do only that.
I am disappointed, non of you speak a bout the soul, Angelina sings to your soul! Adriaan is a ceientist and he believe only wat he can see onder a microscoop, but the soul you can experience you can't see the soul. Bout you sud be a where that you are not your body, you are the awareness and soul that lives in your body. You have to think this over! Live is not locic!❤️👍🙏

Take care."
Wow. That was beautiful, Robert 💕🙏
The "Angelina effect". I have witnessed in myself and in others.❤
Thank you for your comment Robert. It was great meeting you in Portsmouth! We angels will support her in any way we can. Take care!
That is how I fell into the rabbit hole:
I was retired, bored, and looking up singers that I once heard on AGT or some other shows that I remembered liking from the past when I was too busy to follow anyone.
I love Nat King Cole, Celine Dion, Linda Ronstadt…
Angelina is a genius, she is/was a prodigy, and she works tirelessly on top of her gifts, because it is what she is.
Wow so well said 🤗
Yes well said, Jojo.
The Greeks understood this implicitly when they attributed temperament to the various 'humors' in the body
'Emotional intelligence' is a popular phrase.
Cheers from Australia 🦘🇦🇺
a question ..why are the most fans are older men..which i am one at 80+..some young people does not understand this, when i express my feeling..
Please send a link for the song at the end… Somehow I missed that one. Sitting in a chair no less, those runs…I was mesmerized. Brain or heart?

I’m glad I made you discover this song! Should not be missed by any Angelina fan. What she can express in an almost careless way. Mesmerizing, like you say. Hearing this, the brain triggers feelings and the whole body reacts: heart, skin, back, eyes, …
Alan you are wrong : every sensation is produced by the brain and diffused eventually to the body but not the reverse !
