We lived in South Carolina for 15 years. Not a lot of seasonal change, a bit more than CA, but not a lot. That being said, we missed the four seasons. Going to the beach every day would be nice, but Christmas is just nicer when there's a nip in the air and a little snow. Fall is so much better when the leaves change, and you can smell it in the air. Spring is much more interesting when it fights to overtake winter and different plants and trees fight to come alive. Summer can be saved for fun at the lake or river or even a hike so deep into the woods the sun can hardly get through. We missed the season and moved home to Tennessee nearly 10 years and haven't looked back.

People always say “you can do everything in one day in cali” what a lie. Between traffic, and horrible roads, good luck going from a polluted ocean to surf in and a few inches of snow in big bear. And if you want to compare the north and south then May as well compare another state, because it’s so huge that it’s not possible to just go up north without taking a day. Plus all the costs associated with it, fees and fines. Tons of restrictions to even do out door things, not to mention the state is not green. So your hiking in a desert 🌵 I’ll give you that Yosemite is one of the most beautiful places on earth. But again, the management of the park is comical. Born and raised in CA here.

It was intended more as a figure of speech. I don't think many people would surf and ski in the same day but the point is that there are places in California where you are close to various environments so it's nice to have the options.

Totally agree. In SoCal, there are no lakes like what you'll see in central or northern California. Big Bear Lake is tiny and crowded, so it can't compare. Everything turns brown in the summer in SoCal, from the hills to the sky.

I moved to the Treasure Valley area from San Diego, lived in SoCal 98% of 60 years. The only thing I miss is the variety of restaurant food and great sushi. With the money I save, I can visit friends often and I LOVE ID.

So the gist of it is, if you can afford it, and if the policies, restrictions and tax laws don't affect you in a negative way, then CA is better. Well, Southern CA at least. It really boils down to, are you willing to pay a huge premium for great year-round weather in the southern coastal areas? POV: born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley. I'm no longer willing to pay that premium. Eastern TN is gorgeous, green, and allows me to do more with my excess income, which is important later in life.

Tennessee is beautiful, so much water - creeks and waterfalls and greenery everywhere. Cheaper cost of living, you can actually own some land. I’ve lived in the Chatt area for 23 years and I am now looking to move around Knoxville and being in the East there are so many places to go in a reasonable drive like Atlanta, Asheville, Lexington, Florida Panhandle. California is just so expensive, too many illegals, too many homeless and Southern California is ugly. Monterey and San Francisco were very pretty, but I’d rather own some land and have a decent life and you get that in Tennessee and unless you are filthy rich, you can’t get the quality of life in California that you can get in Tennessee.

@@southernyankee2300 Tennessee can’t compare to California bro don’t care what you saying I’m from Nashville, Tennessee nothing can compare to California you know how big Cali is so many cities & opportunity if you don’t have a job line up in Tennessee or good career you won’t survive out here our minimum wage is 7.25 or something only reason people would move to Tennessee is because it cheaper Tennessee is boring live here my whole life I been to every city In Tennessee can’t compare to California

@@615bandup2 California is much larger and extremely corrupt. Like Illinois you have one of the toughest gun laws in the nation and you have really high crime rates. The Southern half of your state is just down right ugly, you have no water, and most of your population can’t afford to buy a home. Your politics are a mess and you were locking people up during Covid if they went in their own back yard, but you released your killers and other criminals during Covid, cuz the poor murderers might get Covid and die, and the first thing they did was to haul their sorry butts out of California and kill some decent person in the Eastern half of the US - your state is the laughingstock of the normal part of the country - which is pretty much everywhere except Oregon, Washington, DC, Chicago, NYC and New Mexico. California is full of Liberals who move to Nashville/Murfreesboro and then hide where they came from, because y’all have such a bad rep that y’all aren’t welcome here. Tennessean’s are glad you love California, please stay home!

You can't live your life outdoors in SoCal when it's above 95 degrees...which is a lot of the summer unless you can afford to live in a beach city. It might as well be snowing.
