Mandibular nerve is the postrematic nerve of the 1st arch, and the chorda tympani is pretrematic nerve of the first arch. the chorda tympani nerve, the 'pretrematic' (from facial nerve of the 2nd arch) crosses the first pharyngeal cleft and joins the lingual nerve to supply the taste buds in the anterior two-thirds of the tongue,
