Karaikudi Veena Brothers & Thirokkokaranam

The Karaikudi Veena Gharana had the ancestory at the village Thirukkokaranam in Pudukkottai. I was working in the Department of Music at the Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal. In 2006., January while returning to Madurai after rendering Sarasvati Veena at Tyagaraja Aradhana in Thiruvaiyaru, I went with my parents and halted a while at Thirukkokaranam. A womn about 90 years old asked me if I knew the Karaikudi Veena Brothers. My immediate reply was that Karaikudi Subbarama Ayyar is my greatgrandfather. She told me that they used to live in a house near hers, used to render Veena at the Sadasiva Brahmendra Sannidhi in the Brhadambal ( Araikkasu Amman) Temple there. In 2009., my paternal uncle Dr. K. S. Subramanian indicated that Karaikudi Sarasvai Veena family was based at Thirukkokaranam. Being invited by Nattukkottai Chettiyar patrons of Music at Karaikudi, and referred as Karaikudi Veena Brothers.
Dr. K. S. Subramanian started performing Aradhana at the Brhadambal Temple in Thirukkokaranam more than a decade before. N. Venkataraman, N. Chandrasekar (two grandsons of Karaikudi. Subbarama Ayyar) used to participate in the Aradhana Dr. K. S. Subramanian conducted bringing along his students at Brhaddhvani.
