Thanks for posting this video. Looks like you had a good day. Your indo about the bar crossing was very helpful. It would be great to hear some details of what you used, water depth, location tips etc. I know you give more details in other videos, but to have the information specific to the day would be nice. Thanks for sharing.

    Halibut!
Best tasting and textured fish in the ocean and what a blast to catch.
We used to fish them out at the Bandon high spot.
It used to take a fast boat a good hour and a half to get out from Bandon in a little longer from Charleston. You'd be traveling over 1,000 ft deep waters and then it would rise up to about 475 to 550.
Of course the season was only a couple or three days long usually twice a year, it was worth the time and fuel getting out there if you could get your bait on the bottom.
Most of the time the currents were real strong, there was strong wind... basically pretty snotty. But if you could get your bait on the bottom you would get a bite within seconds.
Sometimes you had to drive downhill while letting your line out just to find the bottom. That would give you a couple of minutes of good fishing. It wasn't unusual to take home something over 100 lb. There were plenty of chicken halibut but we would usually go at home with something that was 50 or 60 lb and sometimes bigger.
The last time I went out was in around 1997. The hour and a half triple and took about 45 minutes because I had a 23 ft Sea Ray with a 454, power steering and trim tabs. It would usually do 55 on the ocean.
We got out there, caught big fish right off the bat and got back to the boards before 9:00 a.m.
It was one for the books.
