Is 'Devil May Cry 4' Trash or Treasure?

  • From the PS2 days to the PS3/Xbox 360 era. With better technology, how was the fourth entry in the Devil May Cry series gonna up the ante after the massive success of the third game? Easy! Make a new character, have Dante only playable in the second half of the game, and do the same levels again but in reverse! My Sons of Liberty senses are tingling.

    "Did CAPCOM run out of time, or something?"
    I personally think they did.
    The development and release of DMC4 took place around the financial crash of 2007-08. This would mean DMC4 was not only affected in its development, but was also affected by the sales; and sadly, the new generation of gamers, at the time, played it safe and picked COD. Since the new generation of kids was not interested in a Japanese title they never heard off.
    DMC4 wasn't the only one that was affected. MGS4 too was effected - both in sales and development

      It was rushed. Dante wasn't even supposed to be playable at one point, it was just Nero, but Itsuno relented after complaints. However, he didnt get any levels of his own, because there just wasnt time. DMC4 is indeed unfinished.

      DMC 4 could have ended up as another DMC 2, but the combat and everything is still pretty enjoyable for me to like this game.

    Even though this is an incomplete DMC, it’s still one of the best games of the genre. 5 is basically the same game but finished and with even more mechanics.
    And the dice mini-game has an easy trick to get through faster by striking the dice with the Buster Arm at the moment the number you want appears.

    launch dmc4: decent treasure
    dmc4se released 7 years after the original: higher than decent treasure but still disappointed that it was not fully finished

    The dice game is rigged. The die always spins in the same repeating pattern when idle, and whatever number is on top will always be the number you roll, no matter how you hit it.

    The only irredeemably bad game in that series was 2. 3 and 5 seem to be the best ones overall followed by 1 and 4 but 2 was just dreadful and had nothing worth experiencing.

      I just played the series in chronological order. Skipped 2. But made the mistake of watching the anime after playing 4.
      Felt weird. Like I should've watched the anime in 2's stead.

    Is trashhh. Second half of the game recycled with the first part. Nero has a stupid easy and small moveset for newcomers, with grappling hook to take enemies. After half game they give you Dante and if you haven't played the previous DMCs you are lost because you don't understand how it works. Only music is beatiful. The real DMC is the 1 and 3. Stop.

      Also vergil in this game is just too broken and his moveset is stupidly changed drastically from dmc3 vergil.

      Playing DMC4 first, I agree. Nero was great for someone who's never played any DmC before! Then all of a sudden we get Dante, and I just got my ass kicked a bunch.
      Which is dumb, cuz it disconnected narrative from gameplay! Dante was supposed to rip thru Nero's levels and bosses to show how much stronger than Nero he is. But as a new player, gameplay was the opposite of the cutscenes.

    2 4 and 5 are the three unluckiest games ever , 2 was made in 4 months due to a sudden director switch
    4 was incomplete
    And 5 was made all of a sudden because the original plan was a sequel to DmC devil may cry
    Dmc can be the best most popular action game ON THE PLANET only if they made game as planned since day one i mean....look at dmc3?

    In your review on DMC3, you ranked it as one of the most difficult hack and slash games of the decade. But a year before DMC3 came out, there was another hack and slash game that was hard. Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. It's already been stated that the arcade Ninja Gaiden and the NES version even the Sega Genisis were very hard games and the Team Ninja reboot was no ecception. Where would you rank the Ninja Gaiden series as the hardest games compared to DMC3?

    • @TrashorTreasure
      @TrashorTreasure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess I’d say the original Ninja Gaiden on NES is definitely harder than DMC3, but more for its archaic level design with trial and error enemy placement. Never did beat the other two NES games. As for the 3D trilogy, the first game is maybe on par with DMC3’s difficulty, if not slightly harder. Never finished the second one, but I recall that one being easier, and I haven’t touched the third one yet unfortunately.

      @@TrashorTreasure Yep. I've played the original NES version and the second boss is as far as I've made it. Really enjoyed the arcade ninja Gaiden more. But never played the original Xbox reboot. The hardest Hack and slash game series I've played is God of War. Since then, I've played much more harder games. But there is a part of me that heavily believes that God of War is not for the causal crowd. Mostly because of the last third of the game set in Hades.

    • @Auvisome
      @Auvisome 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      DMC 3 on DMD is definitely harder than Classic Gaiden. NGB and NG2 on Master Ninja might be harder than 3 DMD but eh

      @douglasmonroe7417 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Auvisome I actually just started playing the 3d Ninja Gaiden games. I'm playing the Sigma versions though. So I'll have to see how hard master Ninja difficulty is when I unlock it.
