    These motorized objects are great until they don't work. From my past experiences with motorized curtains, motorized garage doors, motorized cabinets, drawers, after 6months - 1 year usage, they tend to get finicky and won't work properly. It will be interesting to see how these things work after using for couple years.

      I agree. This can also be done with a counterweight system. I have designed counterweight systems for large outdoor patio umbrellas to eliminate the crank and cable system. They come really handy in the Caribbean resorts and any other place that requires opening and closing them every single day. This is also saves a lot of time. My systems changed opening the umbrellas from 1 minute to 3 seconds flat. Anyway, this system looks cool but more importantly it saves a ton of floor space for sure.

      I agree. I also wouldn't feel safe sitting or standing below that bed when it's up - if something breaks really bad, the bed may fall down on me and kill me. Another concern: it is connected to the internet so in principle it can be hacked, like any other IoT device, so if the only thing that prevents the bed from going up when I'm sleeping on it is a piece of software on the device that is connected to the internet - I'm out. Especially as it's a new company without years of experience in creating secure software.

    Um, the other elephant in the room is the floor to ceiling height. The standard height is 8-9 feet. It looks like this apartment is 11-12 feet? I love the idea of it, as well as the look, but the practicality of it, in most cases? Plus, I assume the ceiling joists strengths have to be considered?

    • @geoffsemon7411

      a murphy bed takes up about 40cm of floor room. A ceiling bed works if you have enough ceiling height. A gas lift murphy bed kit is about $300 and if you make a ceiling bed like this that is counterbalanced without the fancy electronics it could be build for under $2000 complete

    • @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
      @dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While I agree with you, a murphy bed is just the bed. Obviously you're not going to get essentially an entire bedroom set going into the ceiling. And we all know why this is so expensive, with all of its safety features and cameras and the app and whatnot. Personally, with the pandemic I wouldn't live in a big city and would rather get more space in a cheaper location. Why pay exorbitant NYC or LA or SF prices when no one is going into the office anymore?

    A good use case for this is for people with older parents, older people who might need to convert a room like an office to a bedroom or if you have older people that might visit you or just in general if you have guests over and you want to be able to use a room like your office as a guest bedroom and then turn it back into your office after they are gone. It’s a pretty cool idea. It would definitely be cool if the outer units could be a couch and desk and you could have the couches and desk down in the day and then the bed come down at night. 🤔

    30k is about 85% of the cost to build a Tiny House, that includes a pull up bed just like that one, the only difference is that instead of a remote control you use a cord and a crank cord reel to do the job. So here, you are getting the New York price, thats about it. I❤️your videos, Shelby!👏👏🔥💪

      There's a lot more costs involved than you think. Manufacturing, R&D, insurance, liability insurance, materials, build out, pneumatics and hydraulics, facility costs, rent, utilities, legal fees, salaries etc etc. $30K is nothing to some people, look up the costs for Le Corbusier couches or Hastens mattresses. My neighbor across the street has a $30,000 Viking stove, her entire kitchen is easily $80,000 to $100,000.

    Great video Shelby and a very interesting find! Thanks! It does kind of remind me of a more modern (and expensive) Murphy type bed, but still very cool though and love the added touches like the camera, weight sensor and heat sensor as well.

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Love it! the beautiful execution. If I would be a potential investor, though, I would be worried about in what case uses the design is so superior that it justifies the delta between 30,000 for their system or 3k to 7k for a super cool-looking Murphy bed. I love convertible spaces (I have them in my own home) but, while it looks super awesome, even in the space Shelby showed, you could embed a Scandinavian looking wall bed, losing less than a square foot or two, and get the same result. If money is not an issue, this is a fantastically clever product!
    Now... their removable "walking closet" that is their killer feature, as nothing can replicate that.

    I think it’s great in certain circumstances. A studio in NYC is perfect because the space is at a premium and you need to maximize every square inch. But the ceilings need to be unusually high and they need to update with the desk and headboard option. Once they do that, I think it can definitely make sense.

  • @conquerordie230
    @conquerordie230 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I feel that it pairs well with spaces that already have a decent ceiling height (rooms that are already small would probably start feeling claustrophobic by adding cabinets to your ceiling). I'm curious to know however if Allan gave you a sense of what type of warranty it comes with. For example, how many times is it rated to go up and down, and what kind of maintenance is required (if any) to keep the motors and gears running smoothly. All-in-all, interesting video for sure, and that apartment for NYC is very nice and like you said very well priced too!

    Love this! I'd do one for the dining table too. Would be great to use that wasted space as it rarely gets used. LOL I see so many applications for this tech. Even in a walk-in closet, if you could have the 'drawers' come down from the ceiling into the center it really increases storage capacity. I'm designing a small home right now, and I will tinker with uses for this in it. Trying to go as small a footprint as I'm comfortable with and this could get me even smaller without sacrifice of the large amt of storage I need! LOL Heck, you could have one going down the hallway to drop down a bunch of drawers that house the holiday stuff or travel stuff that you don't need all the time. Our ToyHauler had a drop down double bunk but the mechanism was not cute. LOL I'd considered it, but then tossed it because it was a bit of an eyesore for a home, but this...hmmm...I'll be watching this company.

      For only $75, get a battery back-up unit called UPS as used on many desktop computers. You probably would get more than 5 days use of all furniture.

    It makes sense in limited circumstances. A more affordable option to save space in a small room is a Murphy Bed and its easier to work with, too. That said, its an intriguing concept but because of the expense, its more of a boutique add on rather than a practical solution for the masses.

    I love the concept. $30K? I mean, I guess I can see why it's that expensive, but I've seen systems like this (although not as fancy) for tiny homes, so I'm sure they have systems like this as well that aren't so expensive. Again, I get it. The app. The cameras inside. All of the safety features. It's not going to be cheap. But damn, $30K? Obviously you're not getting this for an apartment you're renting.
