    My Jindo passed away last month, he was such a smart and loyal dog. I think about him every day, I don’t think I’ll ever have another dog like him.

      So very sorry - I feel that way about my big Standard Poodle who was a gift after his owner passed on suddenly. I never would have purchased one and he was simply extraordinary.
      Fwiw, my friend's Jindo dog was the only time I've been jealous of someone's pup. He was kind, brave, brilliant and devoted. Lived to be 14 and they got another who was also a great pet.
      Decades ago - and it's not proof of anything, I realize - I had an NDE (near death experience) and was greeted by my great-grandfather and an old family dog. I'm old now and have had dozens of pets - dogs, cats, birds and horses - and now truly believe that we will see them again one day.
      Blessings on your path and extra angels of comfort your way.
      🌈🐾🐶🐈🐴🐦💙🙏

    Exactly. Jindos are clean, smart, gentle, and loving but do not take you as a friend just because you are a human. They will not obey your highfive, play dead, lie down, or roll over, not because they do not understand, they actually do understand very well, but won't do it for you if they do not feel respected or loved by the owner. They will simply say he or she is not a doll for a master, but a friend. True, equal friend. For that same reason, it requires daily dose of its own time doing its own business. Has lower enthusiasm to please the human than other trainable dogs, but they are trainable.

    I also have a Jindo mix (Yogi) almost identical to yours, and he has many of the behaviors you describe. Particularly he doesn't bark, but when he does we check on him because something is going on. He does not tolerate smaller animals very well in fact looks at them like prey. He loves tug of war contests with his toys and will not quit until he wins, very very competitive. Like you said he is extremely loyal and god help the person who attempts to hurt my wife or me. What was really strange we got him from the Apple Valley Pound. The workers there said he was wondering the desert at 4 months old with his left paw turn backwards. We adopted him anyway figuring we would have to have surgery at some future date, thank god his paw healed correctly by itself and we have now had him 6 fantastic years. This dog has one of the most head strong personalities I've ever seen but I wouldn't change a thing about him as he as brought us joy to no end. One last thing when I take him for his daily walks it's like he is on patrol. What's amazing other dogs will bark and threaten him, he just looks silently and takes a dominant stance waiting to see what they will do.

    Great video. I rescue Golden Retrievers from Korea snd happened to save a Jindo along the way. Best dog. We had to change the door knob to the garage twice because Gus would open it snd let my Golden out. He would hear us open the garage door when we would come home and next thing you know, he’s standing in the driveway. He would wrap both paws around the door handle snd turn it. Had to put a lock with a code on it to keep him from opening. Will not eat any meals other than what I prepare for him. Never underfoot but always by my side. My Golden Retriever on the other hand, would eat snugging from anyone and would leave with any stranger who had treats snd never look back. The loyalty is amazing. Watch the movie Hatchi with Richard Gere when you can.

Shiba snapped first at our Jindo and mid snap my dog grabbed the Shiba and slammed it into the ground. The pitbull fared better but I broke it up before they caused any injuries.

    I do not know how factual it is, but many Koreans know of this story about the Jindos: During the Japanese invasion of Korea in the late 1500's(Imjin war), one of the Japanese generals caught a live Korean tiger(similar to the Siberian tiger). He wanted to send the tiger as a gift to Toyotomi Hideyoshi(the ruler of Japan), and in order to keep the tiger well fed, put in three village dogs into the tiger's pen. The next day they found that instead of being eaten, the three dogs had killed the tiger. So the general decided to send the three dogs to Hideyoshi instead, and this is how the Jindo was introduced to Japan. Whether the Shiba was developed from Jindos, I do not know. Perhaps some DNA research can answer this question?

    • @afad8662
      @afad8662 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Jindo dog is a breed for which DNA genomic analysis has been completed in Korea. The interesting thing about Jindo dogs is that they have the closest DNA to wolves than any other dog breed. Therefore, it is possible that Shiba was separated from the Jindo dog as it is an older species than the Shiba dog.

    • @olihallam9667
      @olihallam9667 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Genetic evidence shows that The Jindo's closest relatives in the dog kingdom are the Pungsan dog of North Korea and the Japanese Akita Inu. So that story may explain the connection.

    • @olihallam9667
      @olihallam9667 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@afad8662 I know people say Shiba is closest to the wolf of any dog breed the Japanese say the shikoku is. Either way all or almost all of the Asian breeds are ancient and close to the wolf with primitive temperaments

    Very helpful video. Doug is very similar to many beautiful, intelligent and loyal Jindo dogs I have seen. This is very important stuff you need to know before bringing a Jindo dog to your home. Even so many Koreans aren't aware of the challenges that come along with Jindo dogs and adopt them only for their "intelligence" and give them up just a year later or so. Such a shame especially when this breed has been designated as a "Natural Treasure" by the Korean government since 1962. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    2 years old
    Female
    Aggressive with most dogs. (But is good with Calm dogs that are not interested in her)
    Is pretty Anxious in general
    She barks kinda a lot.
    She is always looking out our window and if a Cat, Deer, Dog walk by she will bark like CRAZY
    Loves to play with toys
    Cant be let off leash because she will run away from us.
    Is very sweet with me.
    Ok with strangers.
    She will sometimes “dodge” people when they try to pet

      Jindo dogs never hurt and protect any animal if they are considered family. Whether it's a chicken, a goat, or even a mouse. However, when an unfamiliar animal invades its territory, it becomes a prey relentlessly. Jindo dogs have an independent personality, but if you patiently train socialization well, most of the things you are worried about disappear.

    They all have different personality but one thing for sure all, meaning 99% of them are clean.
    There were numerous studies and test how they behave even they are leashed onto outdoor dog house with fence very tightly.
    The fence was 3 feet and the leash was long enough for a dog to jump over the fence.
    3 jindo was tested and all of them jumped over the fence and took care of poop/piss then jumped back in.
    They are clean in nature, almost like a cat. You don't need to pay a lot attention but need to give at least 2 hours of the day for
    walk. They are hunting breed and one of the best for suburb.

    had a jindo for 12yrs. mine was red. smartest animal on the planet - could just figure stuff out on her own. an incredible athlete of a dog also - insanely quick, agile, and pound for pound, immensely strong. super clean dog also. but, couldn't let her interact with other animals, ever. Any kind. she tried to take down a horse one time. It was an adjustment we made, and it worked for us. as with your experience, she only spoke when she had something she felt she needed you to know about. I remember one time, friends blew out a candle in another room, and she barked and took us to the source of the smoke. miss that dog.

    My jindo is a golden retriever at heart. She will welcome strangers who come in the house even when I’m not home and she’s alone!! Wtf!! But she will NOT tolerate a maltese who yells at her, or a puppy who won’t take the hint that she’s not in the mood to play. I completely agree on the not barking thing. She never barks. But when she DOES, something is definitely off. She either doesn’t feel safe, or is annoyed. Overall, great dog for humans but not much on making other animal friends.

    When Korea was forcibly occupied and colonized by Japan, Japan forcibly took Korea's 'Jindo Dog' to make winter uniforms for the Japanese army. 'Jindo Dogs' were forcibly separated from their masters, skinned, and sacrificed in order to become uniforms of the Japanese army.
    In Korea, besides Jindo dogs, there are Pungsan dogs, Donggyeong dogs, and Sapsal dogs. Fortunately, despite Japan's cruelty, these breeds are still alive today.
    (And Japan asserts that there is no such historical fact. It includes all the actions they committed to the colonies. The Japanese army at that time used the 'Rising Ship' as its flag. It was a flag hung alongside the 'Hakenkreutz'. So, at least in front of Koreans, I hope you don't use anything with the 'Rising Sun' pattern on it.)
    Jindo dog is Korea's 53rd Natural Monument, and it is recognized as a Jindo dog and protected as a natural monument only after undergoing a unique examination and passing in the region of Jindo. Jindo dogs are a breed managed directly by the state. For Jindo dogs that have passed the screening, blood samples are also stored separately. According to Korean studies, the Jindo dog is said to be the animal that preserves the traits closest to that of the wolf. Jindo has 6 different hair colors, each with their own unique style.
    However, I do not want them to be raised simply by appearance and rumors. This dog is not an easy one to raise out of curiosity. As a dog breed that is strictly controlled by the state, Jindo dogs are pure-blooded, so it will be difficult to adopt overseas.
    The fact that the breed of Jindo dogs became known abroad in earnest was because Lee Kun-hee, chairman of the Korean company Samsung, acted directly. He took various actions to promote Jindo dogs abroad, and after achieving his purpose, he handed over all of his work and rights to Jindo (region).

    Jindo dogs are clean, independent and loyal.
    But they are territorial and not that sociable. They usually have strong prey drive and want to relieve themselves outside.
    What they hate most is water.
    When there are two dogs fighting with each other around them, they tend to become a peacemaker between the two.

    i had a disagreement with my sister.i said she brought home a fake shiba. she bought her when she was 3 months old. saw her playing with a light brown shiba father and cream shiba mother. i was douted.the one she bought home looks like this jindo with long arm and long body hairs are tight,not with fluffy and short legs like this cream shiba. 5months now,and she is about 20pounds.

    question: i’m considering adopting a rescue Jindo that’s about a year old. I know Jindos are notorious for being loyal to one owner, and i’m a bit worried that he’ll be too old to form a bond with me. are my worries warranted? i’ve owned a pug for three years and he loves everybody, so the contrast is also a worry

    • @doomong9752
      @doomong9752 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What is important is how socialized Jindo is now. To follow only one owner is half right and half wrong. It's up to you. If the dog has been socialized with humans and other dogs, there should be no problem. But if not, it will take more time. If jindo likes to be petted by you and is not aggressive towards your pug, adopt it. you will never regret

      i adopted my jindo at 2 years old and it took a long time for him to bond with me, maybe 2-4 months. but he eventually did and now he’s the most loyal and sweet boy and has a very strong bond with me.

    He seems a lot like a Carolina Dog. They are closely related to Australian dingos and North Asian breeds and tend to have the same types of attributes as them and look like them. They are maybe only 60% domesticated and they don't give a damn what you want them to do.

      Yeah if my dog isn't feeling it, she isn't feeling it. Best to work with these dogs when they're in the mood to do some tricks for some treats :). I do think they are far more biddable than many people give them credit for and will certainly "respect" (if you will) and listen to their owner(s). It is like any other "stubborn" breed, get a good enough reinforcement and they will do it.

      when a jindo isnt trained very well in the social sense, they can be extremely introverted and aggressive with other dogs. it is normal for them to act that way, but i suggest trying to help them be more social- although it can be very difficult depending on your jindo's age. hope this helps!

      @@jeventing7350 Adding on to what others have said jindos get highly anxious if they feel that their owner is someone weak and need serious protection. Their loyalty makes them extremely conscious of their owners and make them feel even the smallest of your anxiety. You need to let him/her know that you are in control of them not the other way around and as much as they are protecting you you are also protecting them. I'm guessing you are a girl judging by your id and if you have a partner see how they act around him. They may act a little less stressed if they feel more safety than having to keep alert in protection mode. Never baby a jindo. you need some strong aggression when dealing with this breed.

    • @Oneonly746
      @Oneonly746 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jeventing7350 oh wait i just saw your channel you are quite young lol instead of a partner try your parents. someone the dog indicates as a stronger family member. Also socialization training for jindos are quite different to other dogs try finding someone who has experience with the particular breed. Jindos aren't looking for "friends to play with" they are looking for which dog is stronger and which ones are weaker. dogs they can trust their backs with and which one they have to leave behind. Jindos will test other dogs to find this out. They are very similar to wolves in many cases(like their fighting style and all). Also jindos dont like being annoyed so other more stoic dogs are better for socialization.
