It is indeed quite haunting. You know from deep within that what this band puts out is going to be a masterpiece but what you don't know is how it is going to sound like. A true definition of "artists".
I feel like era is a song meant to old opeth fans who still cry over their previous work especially with the chorus 'the end of an era The start of new'. I can't deny their older stuff are legendary but the new stuff are fresh sounding and grows on you after a few listens. Opeth are truly a genre of themselves
@@Siranonim you know. The old opeth stuff had alot of creativity and some top notch songwriting. But you won't always write something that good that opeth era was the epitome of progressive metal imo. I think they decided to go experimental cz they ran out of ideas in that genre(watershed was a watered down album and they went heavy just for the sake of it)
@@konivoous5017 I actually think that generally Opeth gets better with every album they put out. It's good that they evolve. It makes the discography so diverse that you can always find something to listen regardless of your mood. It's better to change on every album than to keep recording the same thing over and over. Sorceress is a step back but I don't worry about the next album. Akerfeldt proved many times that he is an excellent songwriter. I only hope that they go back to the more evil sound like they had on previous records. A perfect direction for me would be a mix of their latest few albums: clean vocals, proggy arrangement, riffs a bit on the heavier side, complex song structure and eerie melodies.
@@Siranonim sorceress is a terrible album? it might be to you and thats really fair enough. my opinion is sorceress is their finest work to date. the sound is so different, the creativity is off the scale. to produce a prog metal album of that calibre, thats so different from their other work, will lose fans, yes... but its quality is utter genius. as a fan of many bands constantly changing their sound creatively, i had to grow as a fan...learn to shape a creative ear willing to follow bands creative journeys...not get stuck in one sound and pronounce all other sounds as bad. i grew as a listener. for me this album puts them up on par with any of floyds work.

I'm not one of those old opeth elitists, in fact I love their new stuff and I expect them to change their sound with every album. I don't dislike their sound and style on the sorceress (except for the dubstep bass). I dislike the songs. Opeth got me used to albums where every song is good from beginning to the end. I don't feel it here. It has it's moments but overall the songs lack consistency.
i personally love what are opeth are now (yes been around since the beginning). like all incredible bands..the really really creative ones...evolve. opeth are starting to gain the credible global acclaim, and damn right. sorceress album is another masterpiece. a genuine hardworking band.

I've seen Opeth live no less than 4 times. The first time was in Austin, Texas. Second time San Antonio, Texas. The third time was in Seattle and it was freaking amazing (legalized marijuana). The fourth and final time (for now) was in Las Vegas at Psycho. I was busy trying to pull a hot woman I had met or I would have helped the crowd cheer them back on stage for a final song. Sorry guys, I chose p***y over you and I still regret it to this day.

I wanted to like it, but I just can't. The Sorceress is a terrible album. At least for Opeth standards. And Era is their worst song up to date.
