Welcome to Rush! I'm a new fan myself, of less than one year, but I'm all in! You need to check out Rush live concert videos! There are only three guys in the band, and they are producing all of that sound! Rush was formed in 1968 by the guitarist, Alex Lifeson. They originally had another singer/bass player, but after about 1 month, Alex asked his best friend and classmate, Geddy Lee, to join. Geddy and Alex have remained best friends for all of these years (they are 71 years old now). Rush originally had a different drummer, John Rutsey, who appeared on their debut album, released in 1974. John left the band due to health issues and creative differences that year. In 1975, Neil Peart, who you heard drumming here, joined Rush and remained with them for the next 40 years. Alex and Geddy realized how much Neil liked to read, and they asked him to write their lyrics. Neil is renowned as both a percussionist and lyricist. Neil retired from Rush in 2015 and tragically passed away from brain cancer in 2020. Throughout their career, these three men remained the best of friends as well as band mates. As for a future reaction, I suggest the live version of 'Natural Science' from the Molson Ampitheatre in 1997. It's always a good idea to either read through Rush's lyrics first or have them pulled up when you react, because they have a lot of deep themes (literary, sci-fi, etc). Another awesome thing about Geddy Lee is not only is he the singer for Rush, he is widely considered one of the top bass players in rock music, and in concerts he also plays keyboards and synth pedals, sometimes all at once! Alex Lifeson is often underrated by the rock music press, but he creates some of the most beautiful and creative guitar solos I've ever heard. They all fit Rush's songs perfectly. Rush is a deep rabbit hole and all of their albums sounded different from one another. I hope you keep exploring more Rush!

Welcome to the magic of Rush. I was hooked on them from the time my sister had me listen to this album when it came out. I then immediately started to save my allowance to purchase their back catalog which started with Hemispheres. They have been my life band ever since.
Thanks for sharing your experience of Rush with me! That is so great, music changes lives. I definitely save a lot of my money to put towards concerts, records, and merch for the bands I love:) thank you for taking my the time to comment, hope to see you on the next video!
Excellent reaction. I've been a Rush fan since 1976 (2112 was my introduction to the group). My first concert was "Exit stage left" in 1981 and the last was R40 in 2015. Enjoy the Rush rabbit hole.
Great reaction and thank you. Yes there is an odd time signature. 7/8. Welcome down the Rush rabbit hole. Please check out Freewill next. Deep lyrics and constant changing time signatures that don't obstruct the flow of the song. Best Rush song ever. Best guitar solo section ever where all instruments are showing off. After all, there are only 3 members: Geddy Lee - Bass, Vocals, Synthesizers, Foot Pedal Synthesizers Alex Lifeson - Guitars, Foot Pedal Synthesizers Neil Peart - Drums, Percussion, Lyrics Enjoy!!!
I do believe that section is written in 7/4, mostly because the tempo and meter don't change during transition. I had a guy troll me once when I claimed 7/8 in a different song i saw written (and confirmed from artist) and played myself on bass, so I read up on the difference. Many times it's solely about how it looks on manuscript, but in this case, it's 7/4. (Sorry for being longwinded 😁🤘)
To really appreciate RUSH to the fullest, you must see them live . Watch 3 guys that have mastered their craft. And if you like drums?! You'll witness the greatest percussionist (drumer) of all time. Neil Peart (pronounced P-ear-t). RIP Professor
Dude, if this is your introduction to Rush, welcome aboard. You ask for other Rush songs to review? How much time do you have? There is a virtual treasure trove of Rush classics and the list is too long to document here. Geddy Lee is the vocalist with a very distinctive voice and perhaps the GOAT bassist. Neil Peart is arguably the GOAT drummer and is the bands lyricist as well and Alex K. Is the lead guitarist. Please more Rush. Can’t get enough of them! Thanks for the great review!
This was genuinely my introduction to Rush haha:) I am very excited to checkout much more of there catalog! I have so much too learn! Thank you for the information and I really hope to see you tuning in on the upcoming videos🤞🏼 have a great day
As soon as the synth starts in the middle to the end of the solo, they have switched time signatures from 4/4 to 7/8, then at the end they switch again. This is a Rush thing, strange time signatures or switching signatures in a song. They do it so well it never unsettles you and you have to pay attention to really notice it. The album this came out on was called ‘Moving Pictures’ and the whole album was a masterpiece. Off that album you could listen to YYZ (Live in RIO is fun) or Limelight. Other suggestions would be The Spirit of Radio (earlier than this) or Subdivisions (later than this). If you are really adventurous try 2112, the whole first side. Try the ‘Cartoon Video’ as it helps tell the story behind the song. Rush is a deep rabbit hole.
Thank you so much for the information on the time signatures and also the catalog/song suggestions! I definitely plan to dive deeper into the Rush rabbit hole! I just uploaded a reaction tonight to “The Spirit Of Radio”! I hope to see you on that video again, thank you for taking the time to comment and support a small creator such as myself! Let’s keep rocking💪🏼
Saying “I’m into prog rock but am not familiar with Rush” is like saying “I like breathing but I’m not familiar with oxygen” It’s often been said that Rush play in time signatures that don’t exist. You have some catching up to do, enjoy the ride.
@@mikedown3219 haha I love that analogy, you are totally right! I’m ready to catch up, hope to see you tomorrow on the next video, thanks for commenting:)

Yes, lyric videos are good to do with Rush. Deeper, thought provoking lyrics is one of their signatures, they were known as the "thinking man's band", and go figure the drummer (Neil Peart) wrote most of the lyrics. RIP professor
I’ll make sure to checkout the lyrics while listening to songs in the future! That’s amazing that the drummer wrote much of the lyrics, I feel like that normally isn’t the case! Thank you for the information and for supporting the channel:)
There are no missed beats by Neal. Listen again and what you might think is a miss is very intentional and lands perfectly in rhythm where it's supposed to be. This tune is a master class in taking 4/4 time and playing with the phrasing to make it sound like there are a lot of time changes. There aren't. It's just done so great that it seems like there are.
Your uncle probably had the Moving Pictures album where YYZ and Tom Sawyer are from. You should probably just go ahead and do all the songs from Moving Pictures. One of the most influential albums in Rock.
One of the most influential albums in rock?! That’s awesome! I’ll definitely be checking out more Rush, hope to see you back! Thanks for commenting as well:)
Gonna do Rush, ill sub for that. Check out Xanadu from Exit Stage Left and prepare to have your mind blown, no three better musicians ever graced a rock stage, then or now. 😊

Rush is fantastic and the KINGS of progressive rock, IMHO. I would recommend checking out Dream Theater - "Metropolis - Part I" - they're considered to be progressive metal, but are huge Rush fans - and just like Rush, every band member is a top-notch talent. :)
So I just discovered, you & your channel and I'm now subscribed. And most definitely look forward to accompanying you video wise on your journey through rock and roll at the very least. And yeah I can see where you can hear Getty Lee sounding a bit like Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Still trying to figure you out, figuring if you hadn't heard much of the band Rush really 🤔 then you must be of quite a younger generation then. Or new into rock and roll one or the other. But then you said you're quite the fan of Led Zeppelin 🤔 so yeah it's not that you missed the rock and roll of the 60s, 70s, 80s then. 🤔 But then again growing up in that era of R n R I kind of have a natural fondness for all things Led Zeppelin 🥰 It's in my heart or something from long back I guess you can say. Anyways, you've only heard one Judas Priest song 🤔. Well young man, I think you need to hear at least a few more 👈😉👍. At least take a listen to "Breaking the Law" its one of those songs that when I think of Judas Priest, , 🤔 then I just must hear👈😉👍 Its an early on in their long career song. I always tend to become fond of first albums of bands I would fall in ❤ w/. Now not saying its necessarily their best work per se, cuz bands do grow and mature & develope deeper & thats golden too. I guess I like to start people near the beginning. That way your mind can get blown along the way as the band matures. ,👈😉👍 Or something like that anyways, I need to take a nap since I didn't officially make it to bed LOL. I don't think I've ever found a content creator when they just started their channel basically so this is exciting. It's lovely to have come across you and I look forward to following your musical journey. Anyways good night. Or day or whatever you call it welcome to November. Much 💕 & stay safe out there ! About the drumming. I saw that you're familiar with Tool's Danny Carey. Any guesses as to who his favourite drummer was? It was a man named Neil Peart, who served for over 40 years as the chief lyricist and drummer for the legendary trio from Canada, Rush. He died from brain cancer, which had been diagnosed just leas than a year after his retirement in 2015. Carey was one of the three drummers used by the surviving two members of Rush to play at the memorial concert for Taylor Hawkins a couple of years back in LA. Hawkins and Dave Grohl were also massive fans of Rush, as evidenced by the fact that the two of them inducted Rush into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (in 2013, if memory serves).
Wow, this is amazing. Thank you for sharing this information with me, I am a fan of the Foo Fighters and of course Tool! I didn’t know that Carey’s favorite drummer was Neil Peart, that’s speaks volumes. Especially incorporating him into a tribute show! That’s amazing. Thank you for commenting and supporting the channel as well, I hope to see you on the next video🤞🏼
Once you open that door there's no going back. Neil Peart is not only one of the greatest drummer ever, he is also one of the greatest song writers ever, so I would suggest always having lyrics when you do rush reactions or else you are only experiencing half the greatness.
You are stepping into a huge Rabbit Hole , Of great Music and Lyrics The Drummer writes the Lyrics , When Danny Cary , Taylor Hawkins , Chad Smith , Jethro Tulls drummer Dianne Perry , Stewart Copland all were at the very last show ,, Always expect the unexpected from This band in a z great way
Judas Priest and Rush both came into the music scene in the mid 70s. I can see where you are coming from on the voice, but having listened to both bands extensively, can't really agree. To be fair, nobody really sounds like Geddy Lee. Closest I can think of are Triumph and Yes.
If you've only heard Pain killer by JP then your missing out on some classic tunes. Listen to The tracks off Unleashed in the East and Point of Entry Albums for a chunk of their best work
You are one of the few people in the world who is "a huge Led Zeppelin fan," but never listened to Rush. Like being a huge Beatles fan, but never listened to the Stones.
@ as I said expect the unexpected from this band you can’t pigeon hole them , To see what I mean In time listen to 2112 a 21 minute opus about a tyrant society that banned music , And a member found a guitar and tries getting the tyrants to accept the music , This song saved the bands careers, The record management wanted to write radio friendly type songs , The band gave the middle finger and wrote this epic master piece , And guess what it was by word of mouth not commercial airplay that saved them
@ just to compare their studio version against a live Performance please Do a song called Natural Science studio first the. The live version , fire fire fire
Listening to your critic was hard because of all of your "uhs, ahs, buts, and likes." That is linguistic filler stuff that only makes sense to the original speaker. In this video it is specifically noticeable when you are transferring thoughts from one concept to another. Limiting those fillers will improve your subscriber base. That being said, very few people have the commitment to do what you are doing. Please take my comments as love and not slander.

@@stephenpublicover8818 I’m so glad you got to see them tour before he passed away! I can tell Neal was a special drummer from the small catalogue I’ve heard so far! Thank you for checking out the video and supporting the channel, hope to see you soon on the next upload:)
@@RidiculousRic Hey My Friend, Check-out RUSH, "xanadu, live in Montreal 1981" Than you will be ready for "2112"😀👍✌
Welcome to the magic of Rush.
This is the quintessential Rush song, it's the ideal pick as introduction.
After all, there are only 3 members:
Geddy Lee - Bass, Vocals, Synthesizers, Foot Pedal Synthesizers
Alex Lifeson - Guitars, Foot Pedal Synthesizers
Neil Peart - Drums, Percussion, Lyrics
Enjoy!!!
Good work Rick, Cheers man. Three greats loving music.
Keep it comin' Mr Ric! Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and support the channel, hope to see you on the next video:)
To really appreciate RUSH to the fullest, you must see them live . Watch 3 guys that have mastered their craft. And if you like drums?! You'll witness the greatest percussionist (drumer) of all time. Neil Peart (pronounced P-ear-t). RIP Professor
too bad they stopped playing live like 10 years ago and Neil is dead now
Another great Canadian band is The Guess Who. Lead singer Burton Cummings has a spectacular voice! I'd recommend These Eyes to react to.
7/4 time…cant headbop in 4/4…just have to listen in awe.
Thank you for the information and I really hope to see you tuning in on the upcoming videos🤞🏼 have a great day
I like dog cameos. Not much else can be said: it's Rush. Canadian legends and all three masterclass musicians.
Thank you so much:)
More TOOL, please 🙏 They are like a modern Rush & Zeppelin combined.
best drummer ever
Always read Rush lyrics! Shit is deep.
Saying “I’m into prog rock but am not familiar with Rush” is like saying “I like breathing but I’m not familiar with oxygen”
It’s often been said that Rush play in time signatures that don’t exist.
You have some catching up to do, enjoy the ride.
@@mikedown3219 haha I love that analogy, you are totally right! I’m ready to catch up, hope to see you tomorrow on the next video, thanks for commenting:)

check out YYZ live in Rio, Limelight at Le studio and working man off their first album.
I appreciate you checking out the channel and recommending these songs! I’ll do my best to get more videos up soon! Thanks for supporting, see you on the next one💪🏼
RUSH - Spirit of Radio - XYZ - Working Man - Red Barchetta - Limelight - 2112
Not XYZ ….. YYZ… Toronto Airport call letters
Confuse anyone born after 2000 by doing anything other than 4/4 time. "HOW DO I DANCE TO THIS!?!"
Your uncle probably had the Moving Pictures album where YYZ and Tom Sawyer are from. You should probably just go ahead and do all the songs from Moving Pictures. One of the most influential albums in Rock.

@@RidiculousRic it's a deep rabbit hole 167 songs, 19 studio albums in their catalog.
🤔 But then again growing up in that era of
R n R I kind of have a natural fondness for all things Led Zeppelin 🥰
It's in my heart or something from long back I guess you can say.
Anyways, you've only heard one Judas Priest song 🤔. Well young man, I think you need to hear at least a few more 👈😉👍.
At least take a listen to "Breaking the Law" its one
of those songs that when I think of Judas Priest, , 🤔 then I just must hear👈😉👍
Its an early on in their long career song. I always tend to become fond of first albums of bands I would fall in ❤ w/. Now not saying its necessarily their best work per se, cuz bands do grow and mature & develope deeper & thats golden too.
I guess I like to start people near the beginning. That way your mind can get blown along the way as the band matures. ,👈😉👍
Or something like that anyways, I need to take a nap since I didn't officially make it to bed LOL.
I don't think I've ever found a content creator when they just started their channel basically so this is exciting.
It's lovely to have come across you and I look forward to following your musical journey.
Anyways good night.
Or day or whatever you call it welcome to November.

If Neil dropped a note, it was never meant to be played. He's often changing the tempo just a head of the others.

Listen to The tracks off Unleashed in the East and Point of Entry Albums for a chunk of their best work
Thank you for the recommendation and feedback, I’ll do my best! Thanks for supporting the channel and commenting as well!

Uh, Neil did not miss anything. I saw the tour for this album and the follow up, Signals.
Try Lime light or Natural Science next studio versions Lyrics
@@squamishfish thank you for the suggestion:) I have a reaction up for Limelight but Nature Science is definitely on the list:)
@ as I said expect the unexpected from this band you can’t pigeon hole them , To see what I mean In time listen to 2112 a 21 minute opus about a tyrant society that banned music , And a member found a guitar and tries getting the tyrants to accept the music , This song saved the bands careers, The record management wanted to write radio friendly type songs , The band gave the middle finger and wrote this epic master piece , And guess what it was by word of mouth not commercial airplay that saved them
At the very beginning of RUSH , people called them Zeppelin knock off band!
