But literally everyone making 45/65/100k a year would in a second. Shut up, Kirk!
@@timfoster6286highly debatable. They had comparable teams for sure in terms of NFL talent, but they certainly didn't have teams that were built to beat - or even compete - with Ohio State. Michigan got stuck in a loop of trying to out-talent Ohio State, trying to beat them at their own game. It didn't work. Michigan realized it had to fight the Buckeyes inside of a phone booth (as analyst Joel Klatt put it), to win at the line of scrimmage. The entire approach changed after the debacle that was 2020. Ohio State fans who are still in denial about this fact will make up any number of excuses, like that Harbaugh and Michigan started cheating, but at the end of the day it was a complete rewriting of the fundamental culture and strategy, and it led to a Natty and to 4 straight wins, with many more to come.
Herbie is a Buckeye, and we love him. The Fringe has given it to him pretty badly too over the years for not being a "Homer" while doing his job. So bad, he had to move from Ohio, and now lives in Arizona (that fact tied with the side piece he had here too). We love Herbie, but The Fringe he is talking about would be the ones starting riots if we did lose to Tennessee...and have sent threatening messages about burning houses down and death threats to Herbie, the OSU coaching staff & even many players over the years Buckeye football is a way of life and a religion for C-Bus & Ohio...Ryan Day knew what he signed up for when accepting the job. All the $$$ Day is making and the $$$ our roster is making, falling short of goals is unacceptable. We can all name 5 other coaches right now that would win The Game, a B1G 🏆, and a National Championship w/ this amazing roster. Day fails at game planning for big games, w/ his ego getting in the way (ex: attacking an opponents strength instead of their weakness). If Day does lose to Oregon again, he should be gone. Desmond Howard said it best on the GameDay set: "The 10 (losses) are normally to teams that are equal to him as far as roster & talent...the teams he has beat (60+ wins) are against teams without 4 and 5 star guys. ...people are giving him the benefit of the doubt, who has only earned reasonable doubt. His record against top 5 or top 10 opponents only give reasonable doubt, not the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't earned benefit of the doubt" We (Buckeye fans) have seen this before w/ Coach Cooper. We see history repeating itself with Ryan Day losing The Game, and not winning the Conference or National Championship year in & year out. When having a Top 5 recruiting class every year & having the highest paid roster in the country, underperforming is unacceptable. On the same token, death threats are also unacceptable...just beyond unacceptable, and understand Herbie's frustration because it helped push him out of the state he called home too
If you are sending threats, you are no Buckeye fan! Period. There is only 1 team each year that isn't disappointed. I've been a OSU fan for over 50 years. Love Ryan Day!
He’s lost 4 in a row to Michigan and the most recent loss was at home to the worst Michigan team in years. Cut the bs he hasn’t lived up to expectation.

Yet the lunatic fringe is what makes me want to forget I ever cared about Ohio State football. The Saban mini-rant was the best thing I've heard on the subject - ever - thanks for putting it out there Coach Saban.
Ryan Day deserves some criticism when it comes to his record against Michigan but that criticism shouldn’t be turned into anger. It’s just football in the end of the day, People is continuously allow their emotions to cloud their judgement. Much prayers to Ryan Day and his family, this insolence needs to be stopped.
I am not doubting the death threats are real from some deranged people. But the Ohio State fans I know, and have known for 50 years would never do this. I don't like losing to Mich 4 yrs in a row, but I stand behind the coach we have, and I respect the man. I remember how John Cooper was disliked for losing to Mich, and was eventually let go...but death threats? People need to get God in their lives.
No one should ever receive death threats over a football game and I will agree with that, but Kirk tries to infer through his comments that 20% of the fan base is basically doing that kind of stuff which I can guarantee is a gross exaggeration and over generalization. Kind of like his claim that there were 40K TN fans in Ohio Stadium on Saturday, which everyone could see was absolute BS. The "lunatic fringe" thing is Kirk's "deplorable" moment, and he is hearing about it as he rightfully should be. When your own colleagues are calling you out over your comments from the game, it may be time for some introspection.
This is true for Penn State fans and Franklin as well. Guy took us into the elite programs again, but because we lose to Ohio state (another elite program) people wanna fire him constantly. I am an OSU fan that lives in the SEC south. I think it's ridiculous that our fanbase wants to get rid of Day. 67-10. The 10 losses, 4 to ttup, 4 in the cfp (4 team era), 1 loss to mizzou with 3rd string qb and half of starters gone and 1 loss to Oregon in 21' in the season. Crazy to think we can upgrade above that. Especially when Day has shown he is willing to evolve and be better.

What Kirk described at the end is essentially how lots of fandom is these days for most sports. Some people take the game too seriously when they're just a fan that should enjoy the game.
Been a Buckeye fan my whole life, losing to Michigan pains me more than taking a bath in Tabasco sauce after running through a barbed wire fence naked. But the past few years I've realized it really is just a game, enjoy the highs and take the lows as they come. Spend a day frustrated then move on, dont throw death threats at the guys family

Bingo and winning 87% with a top 3 recruiting class every year doesn’t make you a great coach. Lots of guys could do that.
Getting and developing that talent isn't straightforward. Ask Texas or your rivals Michigan how easy it is for any random coach to win 87% of games with all the resources and recruiting advantages in the world.
Goofies who get upset over college sports are true losers.
@@Reloading20 im a legit uninterested third party here. I think we can all agree Oregon is the worst. I’m just saying a 87 win percentage isn’t the brag he thinks it is. Granted, Ohio state isn’t a terribly run program like USC right now, but i just don’t think it’s that big of a brag when you consistently have the beat talent in all of college football and at least half to two thirds of you games are gimmies.
Your bragging about his record being good but they beat up on sub .500 teams in big 10 every year and choke PER USUAL!
with the blatant talent discrepancy that OSU naturally has every year, pretty much ANY COACH ON EARTH would win 10 games per year with that program
but every time it's an actual big game, every time he needs to actually COACH to help his team gain an advantage, they choke and embarrass themselves.... most overrated bozo in all of CFB
He took over on the backs of Tressel and Urban. The standard is the standard.
It's not the standard anymore
Exactly 👍🏾 leave, as a fan living in the South we Buckeyes are laughed at because we can not finish strong year after year the ball has been dropped
I guess the standard is to threats to the coaches' families members ? You can't be serious 😒
@MrandMrsDavis-vb5dc ppl laugh at you? Who? UGA & Bama? Who else can talk other than them? You do realize there are only 2 active HCs of 134 teams that have won a natty? Day has had OSU in the CFP 4of6 yrs. And to date has yet to lose more than 2games in a season
Right or wrong, Herbstreit is not the person to chastise Ohio State fans. When he says "some toxic fans", all we hear is "Ohio State fans are toxic". We don't like him. This is coming from fans who say " once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye". We don't like you Kirk. Shut up about us. Might as well be Connor Stallions saying it.
Ohio state fans are the worst lmao.
I dunno man, Kirk actually PLAYED for the Buckeyes, so I think his opinion counts for something. But it just feels like there's too many OSU fans who's emotional wellbeing depends on the football team being perfect.
He had cj stourd, mhj, Chris olave, Garret Wilson and Jeremiah Smith and hasn't won a big 10 championship or beat Michigan he deserves criticism
Dayum! That’s crazy…. It’s def a reason any other coach woulda got fired…. He really hasnt actually won anything
I agree, however his wife and kids don't need to be threatened etc. If he performs poorly fire him, the rest of that is nonsense
Criticism? Sure. But anything more? No.
And one of the worst defenses in OSU history until last year…..

But just bc it's his friend it matters more. So basically Kirk is saying that he's bias and untrustworthy to give his objective analysis.
His kid should not be threatened to be killed because of his dad's job. That kid doesn't understand that and didnt have anything to do with losing to the team up north. As a dad I'm not ok with that.
@r.searcy5627 The son is 20 I think. No one is ok with it but it happens all the time. The son lives the lifestyle of a son whos dad make 10 million a year. The death threats are literally trolls on Instagram. It's not like a phone call from someone outside of his house. Let's be clear.
@@Peace2humankind Oh ok! I see where you're coming from now. Thanks for taking the time to clear that up for me. I didnt realize the age of son and the nature of threats. That's going to be a part of it with social media regardless in the social media era.
I agree with Kirk but its The Ohio State. Thats what comes with it. Imagine Alabama losing 4 years straight to Auburn.
we use to all the time
They did before.
U of M vs OSU is a much more even rivalry historically than auburn Alabama, they’ve played for longer and Michigan has more wins. 4 straight is rough, but it’s not the same as auburn and Alabama because that is a much more lopsided rivalry
@danieldoyle6333 now it is. It wasn't when Cam and Nick Marshall played. Point is. They still in the college playoff and a chance to win the title. I'd be competing for titles every year instead of worrying about beating my rival.
Awe poor baby. Nobody else had had to deal with that…
You were the one sending the death threats
KIRK, stop it. He's not the only coach that deals with this. It unfortunately comes with the job. Saban won 7 Nattys, and I'm sure when he lost to Auburn, he got flamed.
Stop it moron, its not ok ,just because other coaches, have dealt with it ,what are you a third grader
Kirk has lost it…..truly a shame to see 😏
He truly has. I think it's the dog situation. He is definitely unhinged lately.

Kirk is a clown for this, who cares about your rhetoric? Day must win big games at OSU, PERIOD! And he has NOT done that!
So he deserves to get death threats for losing? Are you a moron?
He literally just did.
Second best winning percentage as an Ohio State coach... Michigan leads the all-time series you want to blame that on day as well? two national titles since the 80s you want to blame that on day also.... Bunch of f****** mental midget fans he's done more for the program than nearly any other coach.... You want to give Urban credit beating the shittiest teams Michigan has fielded in their history during one of the weakest eras of the Big Ten... Im from Toledo. Half my Neighborhood is Michigan fans half are Ohio State fans.... Im and Ohio State fan. The hatred in our neighborhood is exhausting. It used to be in good fun now its ridiculous. It does not surprise me that Coach Day has to have protection at night for his family. The crap that goes on here before, during, and after "The Game" is mind blowing. People just need to get a grip. This year I think is the worst its ever been.
I feel you. I live in windsor (ontario) with ohio family roots. Big buckeye fan. All my buddies are UM fans but the rivalry has turned so toxic.
WOW!!!! ITS REALLY THAT BAD,,,,OMG!!!!
I'm from Toledo to lol. I stayed in a hotel about 2 years ago when the game was in Ann Arbor, and some of the Harbour clan was there. I was like, yall from Ohio, how could you??? 😅
Born and bred in Ohio and now living in another State, I have been a big Ohio State fan since the days of Archie Griffin. I have never hated Michigan or understood the logic of that. The only thing I really care about is winning national championships. That's the real prize. On a side note, anybody who makes threats (death or otherwise), over a game that grown men play, please seek psychiatric help immediately.

Yep Kirk keep your feelings out when it comes to your job
Sports are all about feelings. This is *entertainment.* It is not oncology.
Of course you would go on the Pat McAfee Show instead of First Take. #SafePlace
AMAZING HOW HE GOES ON A SAFE SPACE TO DISCUSS. GO ON FIRST TAKE!
Give me a break Herbstreit, he gets paid a ton to coach, respect to your friend, but I don't care
He's wrong and I love Kirk but you can't lose 4 times in a row against Michigan and survive. Kirk should know the rivalry he played in it he knows the stakes this is completely unacceptable from OSU and it should be at Michigan as well. If we are going to continue this rivalry as the best in sports we need to keep the standard we set during the 10 year war. Earl Bruce was a fantastic coach couldn't beat Michigan he was fired
I feel bad for Day's family, but he did court some of this expectation: He arrogantly threatened to "hang 100 around Michigan's neck" before Harbaugh humbled him.
I do too. The issue is that he went after First Take. Called them out. This was like Offense calling out the Defense or Special Teams. How anyone is ignoring this is the problem.
@revlee23 To think that these guys are supposed to not go after each other is laughable. They're out there blabbering everyday about their opinions. It's just natural that they get some of it back.
A college football coach’s son getting death threats…a true snap shot of the mental state in good ol’ US of A.
Ryan Day knew the job was dangerous when he took it! At the end of the day Ryan Day should be fired if he doesn't win the National Championship! Hirbstreit is to close to the situation to be objective. Ryan Day hasn't gotten it done at Ohio St. Facts over feelings!
What is "dangerous" about coaching a football team?
The fact that HERBSTREIT THINKS 15-20% OF OUR FAN BASE IS THE LUNATIC FRINGE irritates me to no end. That's a fraction of a fraction, brother. Be better.
It's more like 90%. Woody Hayes sent that fanbase down an ugly rabbit hole. They are still wrapping their self worth into a stupid football game. And you wonder why they are so angry?!?
Is all criticism of Day from someone considered to be a lunatic? There's a difference between fans being vocal and wanting him fired, and lunatics who are sending death threats to his son. But I think they're mixing the two fans together and putting them in the same category.
Talk about my coach Lincoln Riley get him fired 😂😂😂 I’m over it
20% seems really high. Maybe 5%, just really loud.
Aye Kirk Tell Him Go Work At Walmart where nobody cares how good you are at your job and give back the millions of dollars I’m so sick of this death threats weren’t invited for Ryan Day smh
Major back peddle by Herbstreit because of his inappropriate comments about Ohio State fans on the national telecast Saturday night. Don’t buy this BS. I am a Ryan Day fan and support him as the coach. He is an excellent coach.
Further proof Ohio State has the worst fans on planet Earth.
Any normal person out there would trade their lives with Day in a second to make 10.2 million a year, death threats to the son and all. Ask the wife if she would trade, and rather have him make 45k a year to not have to "go through" such "hardships." No way on earth she, nor he would trade. But literally everyone making 45/65/100k a year would in a second. Shut up, Kirk!
Get a life.
If he feels the need to defend Day its all good, but calling out a program specifically is gonna get a response. He knew it.
Criticism and critiquing your team and coach is one thing! Death threats and worse going after a coaches family is absolutely unacceptable!
Didn't Harbaugh lose 7 straight to OSU?
Your comparing Harbaugh turn around Michigan program from the ground to Ryan dyan taking over a all ready build program
Different places have different expectations. Shocking, I know. And not once did Michigan have the better football team in that losing streak
No
@@zachcoggins9018 Yes, they did! 2016 and 2018 had better teams. They came up short BOTH times.
We love Herbie, but The Fringe he is talking about would be the ones starting riots if we did lose to Tennessee...and have sent threatening messages about burning houses down and death threats to Herbie, the OSU coaching staff & even many players over the years
Buckeye football is a way of life and a religion for C-Bus & Ohio...Ryan Day knew what he signed up for when accepting the job. Desmond Howard said it best on the GameDay set:
"The 10 (losses) are normally to teams that are equal to him as far as roster & talent...the teams he has beat (60+ wins) are against teams without 4 and 5 star guys. ...people are giving him the benefit of the doubt, who has only earned reasonable doubt. His record against top 5 or top 10 opponents only give reasonable doubt, not the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't earned benefit of the doubt"
We (Buckeye fans) have seen this before w/ Coach Cooper. We see history repeating itself with Ryan Day losing The Game, and not winning the Conference or National Championship year in & year out. When having a Top 5 recruiting class every year & having the highest paid roster in the country, underperforming is unacceptable. On the same token, death threats are also unacceptable...just beyond unacceptable, and understand Herbie's frustration because it helped push him out of the state he called home too
well said
If you are sending threats, you are no Buckeye fan! Period. There is only 1 team each year that isn't disappointed. I've been a OSU fan for over 50 years. Love Ryan Day!
That was a sucker move for Kirk to address this on Pat’s show. Pat, as usual did a great job on it all.
He’s lost 4 in a row to Michigan and the most recent loss was at home to the worst Michigan team in years. Cut the bs he hasn’t lived up

Yeah I don't know why he had to bring up First Take, when multiple national syndicated programs say even worse.
I grew up in Ohio raking leaves on Saturday afternoon and listening to Ohio State football. Years later I became a student and then an alum. So "the game" is the ultimate to me.
Especially when it’s directed to his family, It’s terrible that his son is recieving death threats. Death threats are unacceptable and those threats leads to anxiety and possibly suicide.
It’s just football in the end of the day, People is continuously allow their emotions to cloud their judgement. Much prayers to Ryan Day and his family, this insolence needs to be stopped.
Man listen as an Ohio State fan... its been 4 fxcking year 😡😡 but let get this Championship 💯💯
Totally agree
ESPN playing their Personalities against each other is ridiculously stupid business.
Well said Kirk, couldn’t agree more!
The sounding board at ESPN needs to stop talking about people's jobs or personal life. Period.
KIRK SHUT UP CRYING, HE GETTING PAID GOOD MONEY TO PRODUCE, HE IS AT A TOP FLIGHT PROGRAM AND IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE.🤷🤷
This is true for Penn State fans and Franklin as well. Guy took us into the elite programs again, but because we lose to Ohio state (another elite program) people wanna fire him constantly. Like, do your research on what they do for the football program and you’ll understand why these coaches are so highly regarded. I’m so tired of adults acting like emotional toddlers in various walks of life
Death threats over a game is hella dumb . It’s like grow up people
As Jim Harbaugh said Ryan day was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple. Has a 20 million dollar NIL budget. FOH.
People need to be held accountable for death threats, messing with children period.
Kirk standing up for the coach is 💯 correct. Especially since he is a great coach.
Too much hatred in this country for a civil, positive message like this to get through. So sad 😢
Perfectly said by Herbstreit!
Am Ohio State Buckeyes fan but those fans who are doing that, sending death threat they need to be arrested send to jail people taken things too serious they not supposed to, it just a game i get the passion that comes with it.
This was a REALLY good interview. I'm a diehard OHIO STATE fan and not a member of the Lunatic Fringe. Go Bucks!

I'm a lifelong OSU fan and its disgusting our fans are threatening Day and his son. Its an f'in game played by college kids, not life or death. With crazy stuff like what happened to that insurance CEO I don't blame Day to have armed body guards. I can not imagine him thinking money is worth this. Don't be shocked if he just leaves after the playoffs are over, regardless of the results. And what coach is going to want to come here for basically running off a coach that had the highest winning percentage the last 6 years?! Insane.
I think the 11 losses overlooked the 66 wins. Those 11 losses were way bigger games than those 66 W's
I don’t accept that the group unhappy with Ryan Day, and someone giving death threats…that they’re the same. Cmon!
Good idea to not insult your customer. If you lose an election, good idea to not blame the voter. And if you’re a on the hot seat, probably good to not blame your fans…
