The 12-team playoff isn't about 12 teams being capable of winning a national championship. It's about shutting up the bottom 7 or 8 that would otherwise say they could have been National Champions but they weren't allowed to play.

Yes, thank you...somebody actually understands. The playoff teams outside the top 6 spots are just place holders for the most part and that's perfectly fine. The whole purpose of the 12 team playoff is to make it so that deciding that 4-6 ranking is no longer a problem. The top 1-2 is almost always obvious but it's often hard to make a bulletproof case that the 5th team isn't just as deserving as the 3-4 ....the teams from 7-12 don't freaking matter....they are just there to fill out the bracket.

“12 teams not good enough to win national championship” is a moot point. There isn’t a single playoff in sports history where all the teams have a legitimate chance. You think 64 teams actually have a chance to win in basketball? It’s a side effect of any playoff ever.

The SEC schools FOR YEARS used as Resume Building by having 10 SEC having or more teams ranked at the start of "Any" given season. The rest of the Conference's were playing catch-up. This playoff format # 1 exposes the SEC and #2 Creates a level playing field for the other Conference's. I agree, for the "Most" part you will see the Cream of the Crop rise at the end of the season. Strength of schedule should matter a lot but also winning matters. Bama and Ole Miss just weren't consistent enough and in Bama's case, two bad losses and those losses should matter as well. Indiana probably gets beaten handily by Ole Miss but Indiana blew out just about every team on their schedule and their only loss was to Ohio State and they put up a better fight than Tennessee. Indiana should have been punished for their weak schedule, and they were to some extent, but they also should be rewarded for blowing out inferior Power 4 opponents and their only loss being to one of the 4 best teams in the country. If Bama is going to get credit for playing a tough schedule and winning some big games they should also be punished for losing games to mediocre teams.
