    Well I wasn't expecting it but I nailed it for the three. And I prefer the hardware, I think it's smoother, warmer, more organic, etc.

    Hey nice comparison. I actually preferred the plugin on the bass. I felt the hardware was much more noticeable on the bass and vocals. Well done on this plugin.
    Your Tubetizer is also excellent.

    Really close on vocals and bass, but you could really hear the difference on the drums. Interestingly it warmed them up a bit, more overtones and excitement though the hardware. In a full, dense mix the differences would be quite small and most probably couldn't tell. The plugin sounds great.

    A, A, B. Even the 1st one I could have gone with the software if I preferred that type of sound (sound more compressed & controlled than the hardware)

  • @Yellosoul
    @Yellosoul 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I was correct on the first two, vocal and bass. They had more definition and articulation. The snare I preferred the software. I believe that was because the B example was playing a section of the drum track where the hi hats weren’t as splashy. Please correct me it the snare A & B examples are starting from the same start point. I own a Audioscape D Comp. Good work Audioscape and Kiive.

      Great job on guessing and thank you for the kind words!
      For the snare comparison, both examples start at the same point in the track, just before switching to the open hi hat section.

    I like A,A, B Hardware on first two, and software on the last one of drums, because it makes drums sound more warmer.

    i didn't guess any of them right... but i never used either one. i could hear the differences between the two, especially the snare. the action of the compressor is very similar between the two. the difference i hear is in the frequency response. with the snare, it doesn't sound like the same snare was used. in the plug in clip, some of the hits have a little bit of distortion/crackle in the transient that the hardware clip does not have.

    Got vocals and snare correct, but I was wrong on the bass. I like the hardware.

  • @soundshigh

    The software brings a bit of the mids forward - maybe around 3-4k , judging by ear. Especially audible on the vocals and the bass. The hardware sounded more natural because of that. I focused on this difference and can't say anything about the compression itself.

  • @danjohnsonstudio

    I got the bass wrong because I liked the VS a lot more. On snare it (VS) seems to deaden the attack in the higher frequencies or added too much body. I probably wouldn't use it on snare anyway (maybe on brushes?), but I will on bass so that's good. The VS doesn't suit rock vocal for me, again seemed to lose clarity and focus, but I can imagine using it on silkier warmer vocals, or at least vocals that need that chocolatey smoothness. For 'That' sound alone glad to have it in my plugin collection.

    I don't know if that makes sense but if i had to describe the sound by using a vowel , hardware sounds like E and software like A

    As usual, the hardware sounds more alive. Why didn't you activate oversampling? I could be wrong but for me oversampling completely changes the behavior of compressors in general because the sidechain circuit is "cleaner" and therefore the compression does not react to weird stuff that only exists in the software world. I repeat I could be completely wrong and maybe Eddie could confirm this if he also hangs around on TH-cam? I would like to point out that I am not here to dismantle the plugin, I am myself a big fan of what comes out of Kiive, especially the Unfairchild, the M5133 and the KC-1... Oh and the Tubetizer too now :)

    Hardware sound better every time, however the bass was good one both. I was surprised that I could tell such a difference between both. Kiive Audio did a good job but the hardware does sound better. Not bad for the price. Something to consider buying during Black Friday... maybe

    Got them all correct easily. They sound pretty different to me. I was more hopeful but sadly disappointed.

  • @bakerlefdaoui6801

    I think you should use some heavy oversampling if you wanna do an apple to apple comparison. Why limiting the digital version with serious aliasing when you don't limit the conversion quality for the analog hadware for example. Oversampling can make noticeable sound changes in digital compression.

    • @stephenfleming8030

      OS almost always makes an audible difference no matter the manufacturer. I mean really, its almost always obviously better, so you're 100% right about the comparison.
      Also, what's with the recordings being edited to within an inch of their lives? Honestly, those recording were so heavily edited that I doubt adding a hardware compressor did any more than just colour the sound.

    • @kiiveaudio
      @kiiveaudio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stephenfleming8030 we are making sound examples with tracks that were used in the final mix, it's common for metal to be hyper-edited as that is part of the sound these days for certain bands, like it or not 🤘
      Appreciate you guys mentioning the OS, and will definitely remember to show that as you're right the oversampling does make quite the difference on certain examples. OS can dig into the cpu a bit, so sometimes it's easy to forget to use it while recording these videos! Thanks for checking it out!

    The hardware analog compressor sounds Much Better! And reveals the details of vocals-bass and drums. The plugin incredibly "MUFFS" the entire sound (like in Pillow) and eats up all the details and nuances, and also has a "plastic overtone".

    I dare you to shoot out against Nebula's Retro Comp.....youd be made you spent the money on the hardware.....

  • @johnisrael5183
    @johnisrael5183 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Matter of Fact the Klanghelm MUJR plugin might be better if you already have analog gear
    Because
    Its a Chandler, Altec, and Sta Retro Comp all in One
    and can be
    Double Mono, Stereo or Mono
    its basically 9 compressors....about 80% ot the Hardware....on some analog tracks of your own
    makes spedning $3500 on the hardware in a home studio...Pointless.....
    I would advice everyone just to focus on a
    Basic Analog Chain with a good interface
    That you can
    do
    Track and Master analog Pass throughs ........
    and Just use Top Quality Plugins l.ike Acustica Audio....with an Analog Mix...G Comp Clown and a very warm sound Interface like UAD Volt...your set ......
    You can have alot more High End Gear and Options to go with your Affordable analog gear through Aucstica Audio and Nebula
    Ive $30,000 worth of ATR Mastering Tape Machines
    Live Analog sampled through Nebula for $450 Including the N4 commnercial player Plugin...your just not GONA BEAT THAT on a normal budget
