Known for his humour and poignant commentary, he draws inspiration from daily breaking news, turning headlines about Rishi Sunak, Keir Starmer and other politicians into powerful satirical cartoons. In the run-up to the UK's general election, we spent time with Ben in his studio to learn more about what it's been like to cover years of austerity and to discuss the role of satire in political discourse.

Wow, love this work. So amazing to listen to his story. 🇨🇦
One day children in history will be studying your cartoons as source reference material!
5:44 had me shattered. Most political cartoons are humorous, and focus on the bumbling politicians, giving a sense that it's all fun and games. But 5:44 shows the result when opportunists and such have their way for a bit.
He's such a brilliant cartoonist, always on point.
I've been amazed how Ben's work has dramatically improved over the years, he's reaching for that high bar and I reckon he'll do it. I used to groan when I saw it was Ben's day in the Graun, now I look forward to it!
Interesting to see the people behind this work. He's pretty youthful too.
Ben Jennings is the best political cartoonist working in the UK. Such clear, powerful, insightful messages in his work.
Morten Morland?
Ben is my favourite of the newspaper cartoonists. Wicked wit & razorsharp too
Ben’s cartoons are an absolute joy or they are very moving. Thank you for the insight into the creative process.
thank you for this, i love ben's work and seeing artist's working methods and insights is always fascinating to me x
I think I could watch and listen to Ben for hours. He has an exceptional skill and I find the process fascinating.
This is the type of thing your subscription pays for. Fab stuff.
Incredible work Ben! I was naively under the impression that cartoonists were of older age, very impressive to see a youthful person smashing it, particularly with the Boris caricature.
Just brilliant, but a bit sad/tragic too.
What a brilliant contribution and talent; well done Ben.
amazing! thanks so much for sharing this. love Ben's work! so good to see the artist behind the art
Love his work, it's always easily interpreted and always on the nose.
Love Ben’s cartoons. Always absolutely spot on
Jesus. Steve Bell airbrushed out of history 😢
One of the Guardians worst moves. It was a Steve Bell cartoon about George Bush Jnr that brought me to the guardian in the first place.
Excellent segment! More! More!
I like that Bell bloke.
*Boris lies everywhere, actually.
I miss Steve Bell
It's amazing that the Guardian has both the best political cartoonist working in this country and the worst political cartoonist working in this country, and they're both named Jennings.
Great stuff :)
The placement of the news media at the centre of the last cartoon, chasing Faridge, is crucial. Media reform is the most important task for the coming Starmer government to undertake, nothing else he does will matter in the long run unless he gets that right. PR is nothing but a distraction, another way for politics nerds to delude themselves into putting their faith in the electorate. The rise of far right is universal and not predicated on the voting system, but on the instinct driven, stampeding voters. You want to halt the stampede, you must control the message.
Ben, you are brilliant. I particularly love your depictions of life under austerity - you've taken the medium beyond satire and your depictions of Tory Britain are beautifully profound and moving. Thank you.
England are not playing as well as expected? Now when have you heard that before? Every time since '66
Such a talent
What a cool guy.
my first love was Art
Kier looks like agnes brown of mrs browns boys without the wig.😊
Great caricature
Extremly creative person - keep it up
Seriously man, como to Tenerife I always buy the guardian for your cartoons
Amazing talent
Steve bell >>>
He was born when Cameron was PM
I'm a simple man: I see a cute guy in the thumbnail, I click. But I'm glad I clicked on this, very interesting doc!
My dream job.
I’m not British, so I am not familiar with the positives, and the foibles of British politicians. Why are people not open to Kier Starmer? I don’t know much about the fellow. Thanks!
❤ Drawable picasso picture from making
Someone happy at work, very rare these days withe the gig economy
Sunak wears kid's clothes. They fit and they are not subject to VAT
This is the kind of guy i wanna date, he looks cute.
Oh, he cute too :D unexpected but welcome hehe
what utter drivel
Don't worry we're guaranteed to get five years of labour austerity on top so job security won't be an issue.
Wow 🤩 the cartoons are doing the talking 😂
Prefer Martin Rowson by far....or Steve Bell
They're all very good; I love that little dopamine hit every time I spot a new cartoon has been added to the guardian app.
It was always Steve Bell for me.
@@kenkelly5848 I think Bell does stuff in Prospect mag, Rusbridger is the editor
His representation of Bojo makes me laugh every time I see it
Criticize Israel Ben ,and your feet won't touch the ground .
Please do not let Sunak introduce religion into British politics....see what it has done to india
I've always liked Jennings' work, much better than Rowson's extremely dark and perverse images. I was surprised by how cute Jennings is ;)
I like Rowson as well. Different political cartoons serving different functions, one is a lot more Juvenalian in its satire than the other.
Doesn't even begin to understand politics and the notion that caricature is about stretching a piece of gum really only applies to Scarfe's personal style. It is not what caricature itself is about.
this guys cartoons are racist
