You're a ROCKSTAR!!! So glad you and I have the same atv because your vids are on point. You are a good communicator...ie:not too much time (but enough) communicating the important things. THANK YOU!!
couple extra points: can am shifter adjuster top nut is reverse threaded so clockwise turning loosens the nut... make sure the little heim joint on the transmission is straight after you tighten the adjustment nuts... this can cause binding during shifting and make it feel very tight to get into park or low range. if it is easy to shift when the machine is not running but harder to shift when it is running (maybe even hear a grind while running) - you may have a primary clutch engagement issue. happy to help :)
These adjustments are definitely helpful. Thanks for demonstrating. Another fix to achieve even smoother shifting is to replace the 2 bearings inside the one-way bearing with aftermarket bearings that are easier to spin than the OEM ones. I went with VXB bearings off of Amazon and lubed everything using the proper isoflex grease and the shifting is buttery smooth now. Definitely recommended.
Jil, can you share more details about this? I've searched and don't really understand what you are suggesting? I have the same issue with stiff shifting.
Best way to explain it is to put the machine in park and verify the dash says park. Loosen the top and bottom nuts all the way, then slowly move the adjustment screw. Then test out the shift, if it’s getting to tight aka you can’t put it even in HIgh then turn the adjustment screw the other way. Keep making small adjustments until it snotthly shifts from P to L to H to N without rocking the machine. I do this all why sitting on the machine. Hope this helps
Thank you! Love my Outlanders, 2016 and 2021, but my 2016 shifts poorly like you demonstrated. So far my 2021 is much better. I will be making the adjustments as you demonstrated. Appreciate you sharing this.
Thanks! Just picked up a 2014 Outlander max and this was desperately needed. Gonna check out your maintenance playlist to see if I can figure out these breaks. They're super tight. Takes a lot of throttle to overcome them and get going and letting off the throttle once I'm up to speed will launch me over the handlebars. I'm thinking sticky calipers, we'll see.
What up neighbor (blue ram truck). Came across your channel the other day looking at xmrs. I subbed and sent some other people over. Imma have to stop by and get some pointers man good work
Great explaination, thx a lot for this video. Just an other question. My shift linkage has contact to the plastic cover, when gearing up in H and L. Do you have a solution for me here ? Thx in advance for your help and best regards from germany.
Would this be why I am having starting issues. After my 2014 650 Outlander is running i move the shifter back and forth and put t in either park or neutral, it will not turn over. Any ideas or suggestions….thanks!!!!
Mines brand new. 3 days old actually with 9klms on it. Thought I was doing something wrong and felt I was going to bust it. Shifts like poo! WTH, it’s so stupid that Can Am would have the sense to make the Adjustment as part of the PDI, or have it customer ready? We certainly pay enough. Needless to say.. I can fix it easily, now that I see what to do. Although I shouldn’t have to. Thanks again for your help, gotta love UTube and people that help others !
Well, I was determined to have it shift smoother, made some improvement by releasing some pressure points, it better but it certainly isn’t Silky Smooth like one guy said. It’s similar to a dirt bike that has shifting forks. They is no kinda in, it’s either in gear or not. I’m going to put some miles on it and see. It a piss off having to rock the vehicle so it goes into gear. Some gears are ok at times P & L are a bugger. I’m in Canada, just over $17,000.00 overall I tore it apart applied No Seize on certain bolts etc. found only two things wrong, one Zerk was 3 turns loose and the rear axle grease fitting was dry. Looking forward to the end of the Break In Period, so I can let er dangle!!
Nice. Yeah my wife’s is a million times better but I can’t get it to shift like my renegade, for whatever reason. The good old break in period😂, then it’s balls to the wall
The Can Am rock causes those who aren't "in the know" to look at you like.....he's got this same ritual every time or he's a little bit on the freaky side.....ha. I knew I wasn't the only one... thanks for the tip! Now I'll probably rock it out of habit even though it works as it should.
Thanks for your video, there aren't a lot out there on this topic! The problem I'm having is that say the bike is in neutral. To get into reverse I have to go all the way down into park (so I can't even get to park). To get into high, I have to go all the way into low. It just seems like there is too much play in neutral before engaging the next gear up or down. Do you think this adjustment will help my issue or any suggestions on what could?
I have a 2007 Outlander 400HO I duno maybe am XT or somethin(First Canam Quad). I did this adjustment because of the annoying rock. Have t took it out yet to see if it holds but just sitting in the garage it cured most of the issue. I will say though, I found this video after figuring I would try to adjust the shifter linkage. I did shift it to Neutral first though, then started doing the adjustments. I ended up where there is some room to play with adjustment left when I park but when shifted all the way forward ( I forget is that High(?) ) the adjustment can't be pulled back any farther. I could adjust it a little furth ahead but I think I am at the sweet spot for now. It seemed to shift anyway. We'll see after I get to plowing with it in a few months
Have a 2014 Commander XT 1000 and have a similar issue with it. Do you know if your procedure would work for mine? Perhaps you know of others that might have tried or know if the linkage set up is similar. So tired of always having to rock mine to get in and out of gear.
Thanks for the video! I just bought a new machine that had the same shifting issue. I put tracks on it and let's just say it's a lot more difficult to do the Cam-Am shake with tracks. I'm glad to see there's a potential fix.👍👍
Thanks for the tip, just picked up a 2021 1000 that needs this 3 days old. I’m surprised they are not tuned appropriately from the factory. But then again it doesn’t really surprise me... it shifts OK and is usable but is a little tight at times and I’ve noticed if you turn it off without putting it in park, it won’t move to park after its shut off. have you noticed this?
Just got a new 2023 outlander xmr 1000r. Once I place it on park the display say park little before it gets to park. Once it hits park the letter P in the display erases.
GREAT Video Dude.............. How come you don't have a billet bracket, you still have the plastic one dude. At the bottom of the shifter rod.....................DUDE, time to get one!
One quick question are those things reliable the ATVs from Can-Am outlander in particular I'm considering getting that it's a lot of money so I need to know the truth
Best machine out there but some shifters aren’t set up from the factory properly. Cause there’s very few true tradesman left in the world you might want to sort it out yourself. There’s tons of info on how to fix, just need to be patient and a few common tools..
Hi I have a question maybe you guys can help me my can am outlander 650 doesn’t go when a I put it high gear but when a I put it in low it does run it would be helpful if you can help me
Nice flag, Go Bucks! Just had my 2024 at the dealer to show them how sh!tty mine shifts. Funny thing, they said there’s no adjustment and it’ll eventually break in lol…
I just picked up my 22 renegade and I pops out of low or when I get it in low and low if I let off the gas it starts clicking and won’t go. Any advice?
Tks for sharing. Have to adjust my father n laws now. There’s also another way to fix it. It’s the way I prefer. Sell the Can am n buy a YAMAHAAAAAA! 🤣🤣🤣
As soon as I read Can Am rock I knew exactly what you meant hahaha
Ahhahahahah 😂
And to think I was the only one rockin the Cam Am Rock.....Will definitely be showing it who's boss tonight....
😂😂😂👍🏽👍🏽
Just bought my first can am. I thought it was broken 😂😂😂
😂😂😂

Can you add a link? To the the exact parts needed

Thanks for the info man. Was looking for a fix to this mess. Brap brap

No problem man. I completely understand where your coming from.
Well, I was determined to have it shift smoother, made some improvement by releasing some pressure points, it better but it certainly isn’t Silky Smooth like one guy said. Having similar problems on a 2017 Outlander, so will definitely be trying this. Thanks!
No problem, hope it works for ya

Your welcome, I believe it will. As when I was making this video and got it completely out of adjustment I was running into that issue
Ya mines 3 days old. It’s so hard to shift I think I’m going to break it WTF??
Definitely needs adjusting. When I was adjusting my wife’s It got in that state and had to start all over again
Also make sure your one way bearing is thoroughly greased with isoflex before you adjust your linkages.
You need to upgrade that prone to breakage plastic shift lever mount base to one of those strong billet alloy ones.
They only break if you are an idiot and reaf on it instead of rocking the bike to line the splines up in the tranny.
Have a 2014 Commander XT 1000 and have a similar issue with it. Do you know if your procedure would work for mine? Perhaps you know of others that might have tried or know if the linkage set up is similar. So tired of always having to rock mine to get in and out of gear.
I honestly don’t know.

Glad to help. I have not noticed this scenario but also have my renegade and outlander shifting a ton smoother now after I did this.
Ya I’m having trouble with mine also, it’s 3 days old and shifts like shit. Can Am 650 XT
Same..
Best I heard today .... who backs out of the hole! Good video man!
Appericate that 💪🏽🤘🏽
There is a sticker on the shifter that says press the foot brake before going from park to neutral.
For anyone wondering, no this doesn't make it so you won't still have to rock your bike at times.
Just got a new 2023 outlander xmr 1000r. Once I place it on park the display say park little before it gets to park. Once it hits park the letter P in the display erases.
You’re a good man; god bless. Another issue I’ve become a victim to.
Yep most have been victim to this
@@HanginWithPA do you think it’s because the gearbox oil needs changing or it happens because of factory design?
Believe it’s factory design
Great video bro!! Definitely need to make those adjustments on my outlander.🤙🏻
Appreciate it bro 💪🏽🤘🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks man, appreciate the video.
No problem, glad to help
Gonna definitely try this
This helped heaps thank you so much
Awesome 💪🏽💪🏽🤙🏽
GREAT Video Dude.............. How come you don't have a billet bracket, you still have the plastic one dude.
At the bottom of the shifter rod.....................DUDE, time to get one!
Appreciate it… yeah it’s on the list 😂
One quick question are those things reliable the ATVs from Can-Am outlander in particular I'm considering getting that it's a lot of money so I need to know the truth
Only issues I have are with the winches going out.. now I do a lot of maintenance to them so that might help.
Best machine out there but some shifters aren’t set up from the factory properly. Cause there’s very few true tradesman left in the world you might want to sort it out yourself. There’s tons of info on how to fix, just need to be patient and a few common tools..
Hi I have a question maybe you guys can help me my can am outlander 650 doesn’t go when a I put it high gear but when a I put it in low it does run it would be helpful if you can help me
If you read the operators manual it says brakes must be applied prior to shifting gear try it works
My 2022 outlander is like that 🤦♂️ need to get adjusted
Wifes 2021 was horrible. It’s better but not perfect.
Nice flag, Go Bucks!
Just had my 2024 at the dealer to show them how sh!tty mine shifts. Funny thing, they said there’s no adjustment and it’ll eventually break in lol…
All that adjustment is for us lining up the shift leaver detent with the detent in the gearbox, it has nothing to do with making it shift easier.
I just picked up my 22 renegade and I pops out of low or when I get it in low and low if I let off the gas it starts clicking and won’t go. Any advice?
Honestly man no clue, it’s brand new I would take it back
Lever? Please tell me a 1000 XXC doesn't have a lever...
Mine really not that bad. I want to put that medal plate behind that shifter
I do the rock to get into park on my Renegade.
Most folks do
mine doesn't want to shift into park from reverse i dont have trouble with any other gears. Is there a fix for this?
Believe you will still need to adjust it. Also make sure nothing is in the way if you got wires running around the shift linkage
Thanks homes!
No problem
Can-am hd8 shift linkage adjustment
Eric Andre doing quad videos?
Bwahaha 😂 3:58
Mine always pops out of low
🏆🏆🏆👍🙏
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the feedback doc 💪🏽🤘🏽🤙🏽
Cool next time I have the plastic off
Awesome 💪🏽🤙🏽
If it's hard to shift, ajust the ideal down
My bike will go in park and neutral but not starting up
Make sure battery connections are tight, always first thing to check. Then make sure your getting spark and fuel.
Tks for sharing. Have to adjust my father n laws now. There’s also another way to fix it. It’s the way I prefer. Sell the Can am n buy a YAMAHAAAAAA! 🤣🤣🤣
😂 well that’s definitely one way to “fix” it ☠️😂
Why are canam shifters so bad?
