I still have my '89 K5 sitting in my backyard, with both a blown motor and transmission and now also rusting away from 20 years of sitting, but I DON'T CARE! I still have dreams of bringing it back to life someday and love it more than my current (actually running) truck. It took me 6 months of searching in '95 before I found the right one, and for the time that it was my Daily driver it was a good, faithful truck. With front and rear TrueTrac differentials and 31" mud tires, it was an absolute MONSTER in the snow but about the most dangerous vehicle on earth on ice.
Talk of nostalgia, I own an '88 Suburban. It was purchased new the same year I was born by my Grandpa, and was the first vehicle I had driven. He would let me drive down our driveway on his lap when I was a couple years old. When he died it became my Moms, and our primary vehicle, so naturally it was the vehicle I learned to drive on. About 10 years ago I drove it solo from Ontario, Canada to L.A. then up the coast and back, living out of the back of it during that time. Eventually I took over the ownership. Now its my house renovation workhorse. I feel like ill be buried in it.
Definitely buy another 4 door long bed Dually duramax from auction and put the square body body on its chassis. That solves all your messy issues with the chassis welds, brakes etc
Honestly you have a great team and making a checklist of things and slowly knocking them out 1 by 1 will be worth it in the end I think. Slammed dually trucks deserve to live!

I think a full restoration on this truck would be awesome. I am just starting a restoration on a 79 K10 that used to be my grandfather's farm truck. I love the old square bodies and every vehicle has a story. You could get together with Vinwiki and tell this trucks story after you bring it back to life.

The truck can be fixed, I'm been messing with and have owned numerous lowered / air bagged trucks for 30 years, I've seen alot worse, but yea ALOT of work is needed to make it a safe and reliable driver again. I would love a chance to make it right and show it can be saved and not destroyed by the Whistlen Dixie guy

Fix her up if you have the time(possible frame swap someone suggested could be a great direction to go in if you can find one), and if and when if you get sick of it sell it at that point. Instead if drilling and tapping he put threaded rod butted up against it and made some real crappy welds. Thank goodness he never drove it on the road that way, he ended up selling the half finished project to me. They busted off the skidplate bolts too so they just welded the damn thing on.
"I'll do it again". Subscribed. RESTORE this truck. Cab and bed off, complete rebuild from the ground up. The value is in the VIN and the chassis platform. You can fix bad work with enough time and money, and at the end of it when it's done right it's yours and will last for years.

Fix a restore it. Clean up the wiring of the truck fix the welds on it or do it right. And do like a matte or a satin black to it and put new white walls on it

My brother in law had one brand new. He parked it in a barn full of hay and lumber with a load of firewood on the back. Cat converter set the hay on fire. You could see the flames for miles. It melted down to about 3 feet tall.

This truck needs a new frame, new wiring, new exhaust, extensive body restoration, replacement of half of the air suspension parts, and more.

@@MustObeyTheRules ya for sure. Once i bought a jeep where somone had broke off the spring perch bolts in the frame. Instead if drilling and tapping he put threaded rod butted up against it and made some real crappy welds. Thank goodness he never drove it on the road that way, he ended up selling the half finished project to me. They busted off the skidplate bolts too so they just welded the damn thing on.

"I'll do it again". Subscribed. RESTORE this truck. Cab and bed off, complete rebuild from the ground up. The value is in the VIN and the chassis platform. You can fix bad work with enough time and money, and at the end of it when it's done right it's yours and will last for years.

Thats my old neighbors truck thats awesome, that thing is a beast. The rear driver shock got blown out when he had it lowered and hit a bump. so he took it out. 6 owners ago bought it from kenneth Montgomery

Fix a restore it. Clean up the wiring of the truck fix the welds on it or do it right. And do like a matte or a satin black to it and put new white walls on it

My brother in law had one brand new. He parked it in a barn full of hay and lumber with a load of firewood on the back. Cat converter set the hay on fire. You could see the flames for miles. It melted down to about 3 feet tall.
