I love that in LoVM it happens instantaneously, but waaaay back in the day it took Travis MONTHS to grow his beard 😂
Right. Felt it would have been much better if it was like the game. Had to explain to all my friends who watch the grow but never saw the game or know alot about goliaths. They CANT grow beards normally.

Having watched the Legend of Vox Machina, I love watching this and seeing the show just scroll through my mind.

As amusing as the "Quest for Facial Hair" is, the scene from LoVM was absolutely PERFECT. The "fwump" as the beard shot out of Grogs face was HILARIOUS!
I think both worked perfectly for their mediums and show the difference hours and hours of actual play and an animated TV show 💕
I will never not laugh at the party discussing the mechanical benefits of the belt, with Tal being the smart one thinking they should give the cleric more durability, for Travis to channel his inner Grog and interject focusing *purely* on the beard growth lmao
You can see Matt subtly writing a note after Travis excitedly says "I want to grow a beard"

I love how Travis was half paying attention to the belts description, but at 4:50 his jaw drops
Travis' face when Matt brings up the possibility that the Belt might lead to bad effects in the future.
I think Grog getting the facial hair would make him a veritable mac daddy among the goliath women since its not something that really happens for that race.

For a second I was like, "Whoa, Sam looked way different back then."
I miss these streams... Don't get me wrong the streams now are unreal but the raw, just story and fun was so real back then I loved it 😍 plus I miss Travis playing an idiot 🤣🤣🤣

Matt wasn’t allowed to play Gilmore because of POC PR reasons. Is what it is. Their brand is inclusivity and identity acceptance. Race swapping VAs comes with the territory.

I like it in the lovm better. Because if you read the item it is supposed to be instant even if you can't grow a beard. But Matt did add a great role play element by making him roll beard checks every morning.
The description actually stipulates that the wearer must be capable of growing a beard to do so. Goliaths are normally incapable of growing any hair whatsoever, so Matt allowed him to grow one slowly.
@Naro yeah you right I looked it up after I commented, and it was specified that you have to be capable.

00:10:00 that is the least excited i have ever seen a group of nerds act when a natural 100 is rolled. i see they never played rolemaster.
The only natural 100 I’ve ever seen rolled resulted in a beloved player character(not mine) getting decapitated, and then the bedlam that ensued in response got the entire party killed and our longest running campaign ended within 4 sessions after it dropped. Additionally, the 100 was rolled because of a natural 20 that triggered it. So it was even more fucking ridiculous. So excitement isn’t the emotion I associate with rolling percentile dice. 😅
As our group goes, I don’t think a single DM has had the balls to kill a PC since then, and that was like 5 years ago. Like my character just got eaten by a gargantuan ankeg monster in the last session, I went unconscious, lost 2 death saves on the subsequent turn, and my DM has the monster miraculously spew acid all over our cleric and vomit me up at his feet. Lol we all called him out on it and his response was “what??? That’s what the monster would doooo 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️”
They wanted to roll under 50 for a success, so a 01 would have been the best outcome. The 100 is actually the worst possible roll, hence the resulting excitement level.

@josefx1389 played on AOL usually when Battletech was down or full. Played on and off for a few years through early web days. Came back in 2013 and only recently retired from the game, due to carpal tunnel concerns. I don't have it. But I work as a police dispatcher, so I'm probably gonna get it. Trying to delay the inevitable.
Who's the shaved head guy? Guest actor?
He was one of the original members. There was a lot of drama that happened with him so he left after episode 26 of the first campaign.
His name is Orion Acaba and he played the Dragonborn sorcerer Tiberius Stormwind

His name was Orion and his character was Tiberius, a dragonborn sorcerer.
While he was engaging at times, I personally grew annoyed with him fairy quickly - however I've read that at the time other fans really liked the character.
There are multiple other forums, videos etc that go into more detail on what bits of the story the community knows, what they speculate happened and what has happened since, but I'll just say that it was around the early Briarwood episodes that he left and later his character was killed off screen. (the last memorable thing he was in was part of was the Cows Episode, which might have been a factor in why that didn't get animated).

I know it ruins the magic of the moment, but technically… Grog shouldn’t be able to grow a beard because goliaths, besides females, cannot grow hair. Good thing the world is homebrew and made for fun.
Seeing that enthusiasm, would any reasonable DM be able to say no... Especially when it made difference to any other factor of the game?
And technicaly according to the wording, if he had been able to grow one, there should have been a 50% chance each day of him growing a "full beard", I'm no expert but what Matt described for the first few times sounded far from that so I'm guessing he decided to go halfway.
Almost all books say the rules are just a guideline. Additionally not every magic item HAS to be mirror images of each other. Some could be variations if the creators of them wanted to add or remove effects.
matt made a point of that throughout the whole process. the wording of the magic item was that there was a 50% chance of growing a full beard, but because grog had no hair follicles to begin with, it was a laborious process of developing the follicles, growing the hair, and then adding keratin and melanin to it
I disagree. They are still mammals so covered in hair follicles, even if they aren't very active. The ones on his chin were just magically activated.
Unpopular opinion, I miss (Orion) Tiberius. And can do without Liam.
Totally fine response, I have read that many people were a fan of Tiberius at the time which is fine. Everyone can have their opinion, including me being a massive Liam fangirl.
