Regarding the German language skills, for software engineer jobs, if the job location is not in Munich or Berlin, it is in general very difficult for candidates that cannot speak business German fluently to find a job. This basically means, you should be able to debate or negotiate using both English and German. If you managed to get a job in a company whose team language is German, you'd better be prepared that you will have almost 0 chance to try any leadership (both technical and functional) roles in the future (at least 10 years). Let's try to be realistic. This is on the other hand partly the reason why Berlin and Munich are normally the first stop for the immigrants. However, learning German is necessary for your life in Germany. Practically, you will definitely need it to handle dozens of letters that you will receive from government, insurances, and so on. It is also closely related to your life quality and social integration in Germany.

You are NOT allowed to work at all on a Tourist Visa.. not for a German company or your home company.
