Uganda's traditional kingdom of Buganda, a state within a state • FRANCE 24 English

  • The largest monarchy in East Africa can be found in Uganda. The traditional kingdom of Buganda is a true state within a state, retaining its political powers and spanning a vast part of the territory. At its helm, King Mutebi II governs 14 million people in the central part of the country, but rarely appears in public. The sovereign coexists with the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who is responsible for the resurgence of monarchies in this large African nation. At the heart of Mutebi II's lands and the capital Kampala, UNESCO-listed royal tombs are about to reopen to the public after 13 years of renovation. FRANCE 24's Clément Di Roma reports.

@@w_y_n_2k In the 18th century, all kingdoms of Uganda were states,,at first it was a good thing to unite and form a state,Uganda, but at this time it has not helped any of our tribes or kingdoms, its been always wars, secretarianism, embezzlement, our unity in diversity could be good but it turns ugly when one tribe sits on others, taking what belongs to us all to one side, its not good that's why people are crying and flashing back to what could be or it was when one tribe is headed by it's own king cuz a king can't still from own people, now we owe trillions of which I dont think have lay Ugandans have anything to do with this money but we have to pay,a road funded thrice to complete and the results are poor quality,we're a shame on international level, that's why the Baganda are some how defiant, apart from one tribe,no Ugandans are doing well financially but people are sweating everyday for peanuts.

Hey DW,the name you have given this video is wrong,go back at the end of the 18th century,Buganda was a state and was dragged by the British, just tricked us into Uganda and we're facing problems since then,go back and back check all government schools, police stations in buganda, all was already there before the british, where the parliament is,was already there b4 the british,so,Buganda can look after its people without the central government cuz it has done more harm than good, you did the land problem documentary some years back in Mubende, this is all done by central government to the people of Buganda to weaken us by making many of us refugees in our own country and you the whites have not helped us,all this started when british to us into one Uganda.

But a quick look at the comments and replies will help one realize how contentious the idea of kingdoms is, a double-edged sword that unites it's followers and at the same time divides the rest of the country and undermines collective national pride and identity in favor of tribal loyalty.

Monarchs are 1%-ers 🤴🏽 🤴🏾 🤴🏿 👸🏽 👸🏾 they DO NOT DO COMMERCE or bargain with anyone. You cannot go to Queen Elizabeth or King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand and ask for 200 of their people for a car or a pet or coffee.
Doy you know why? = because they are Monarchs and can have anything they want. They dont get tea for themselves. they dont cook, or even walk sometimes. Entire country comes to their aid.
Kings and Queens: are just that. no Merchants or sailors rules them.🤦‍♀
if the colonist came to their land; the British do not order the King. Whatever the king wants he gets.
African Kings and Queens are not day labourers. Right now in 2024 what do you think the King of Buganda wants and cannot get?
the people who ruled those tribes must answer to him. POWER IS POWER
** the reason why I said African Kings and Queens are not day labourers is because never in their life have they ever lived in squalor. Poor people desire things royals take for granted. I know you dont know this because you use the word exploited. like they are not the ruler of that land.
You have to pull back from a false history you wer taught and use HUMAN BEHAVIOR.
if you rule a land. why would you give away all your subjects and your land ? and for what. what is worth your whole kingdom?
🏙🏙If I rule my city: there is nothing you can trade or bargain with me for unless you are going to give me 🌆the next city over. POWER is the only thing kings or queen engage in conversation. Keeping their POWER or gaining more POWER . not losing subjects.
as wealthy of a continent Africa is: Royals on the continent have everything they want.. or could ask for East , West, North or South
the logic only make sense if you are middle , lower or trader class : where exploitation of humans will make your $$rich.
🤴🏾 🤴🏿 👸🏽 but if you are the KING you are the richest person in the land by default. everyone is your subject.
Famous line: "its good to be the King"

Unfortunately very few people are aware of this historical injustice. Bunyoro, by God’s grace, shall regain her former glory 🦾🦾🦾

For the sake of history let's keep memory of facts, the positive and negative. Should be handled carefully to avoid promoting tribalism. @@truth19904
