No, the reason he'd done that is not "because he lost that ridiculous argument", which is in fact not ridiculous at all. You've got it all wrong and that's 100% natural.
How did he know the reason why marine animals can not survive above water and come up with a very scientific solution (using kelp to synthesise the concentration of air to be the same concentration as sea water); a solution which would need to be corroborated with marine biologists, physicists, etc. after the fact (MPA requirements) - all off the top of his head? Or it was written beforehand instead of ad-libbed.

I love how Mark Wahlberg’s character falls for the insane fantasy story and actually asks “how’re you gonna do that” to Will Ferrell’s character when the latter says that him and his Tuna friends could hunt lions on land.
This is literally the best comeback scene I’ve ever scene in my entire life 😂😂😂 Everything said here is hilarious but the “Did that go the way you thought that was gonna go? ...Nope.” line is the most perfect ending to a comeback 😂😂😂 Omgosh I died laughing when I first saw this. Analyzing and exposing someone’s stupidly illogical insults and sayings to their face then to top it off by escalating the absurdity with a retort in the original mindset that irrefutably “defeats” the attacker at their own stupidity is got to be the most perfect way to expose someone’s stupid b.s. that they probably heard somewhere else and mindlessly repeated it to sound cool. Ultimate FAIL!!! 🤣🤣🤣 That was perfect! 👏🏻
Will Ferrel honestly plays the nerdy weak minded guy so well in so many films 😆 Honestly will ferrel and mark wahlberg is as good a combination as the rock and Kevin Hart
The 'extra layer' of sheer beauty is this: the fact that Ferrells character could think of something so ridiculous, but it actually WORKS! The other cop is 'checkmated' by it, so throws his coffee! Brilliant!
You know what's great about this scene? It's the fact that this ENTIRE Tuna Monologue was IMPROVISED by will F Ferrel. That is how quick that man's mind can think. Made up on the spot. That's why it works and that's why this scene is very funny.
I like to think it took him some time to come up with the general idea of the tuna vs lion monologue. Maybe not days, but an hour, hour forty five maybe.
Well.......if you watch the bloopers you can hear someone off screen giving him the lines..........so..........while I agree WF is funny as hell............not the best example.
The other guys is a movie I can watch over and over again... and still laugh at the same scenes I cried of laughter the first time I watched it. I'm still giggling about the passive aggressive to openly aggressive transition from Mark's character.

They won't breath for days but an hour, hour forty-five? No problem.
The new black panther trailer shows the Atlanteans using kelp masks on their face to breath on land so he has a point
