Perhaps the most heartfelt and well made documentary I have ever seen about winter in a small village in Zanskar. Caroline you have done a wonderful job of filming the lives of these truly hardy women of the nunnery. The narration, visuals, the audio, all are first rate. The changes which have come to hitherto remote communities in the high Himalaya is a fact that one cannot escape from. Roads, infrastructure, population growth, pollution seem to be inevitable as our world seems to be collapsing under the combined weight of progress and development. Though we may bemoan the disappearance of communities and ways of life that seemed in the past to have stood up to centuries of change, the revolution that we as homo sapiens have created for ourselves especially in the last 100 years or so in terms of technology and communication networks almost dictates that the drastic altering of human and animal lives and the balance of the environment will never be the same again.
@@AdventureSam These people are Tibetan and it's their country. The CCP illegally occupied their country, India just allowed all the folks from Tibet who migrated due to repression to freely practice their religion and protect their culture in various parts of India. So it's not a different country, it belongs to Tibetan people. Having said that all the Tibetan/buddhist own and are entitled to stay anywhere in India since Buddhism is part of Indic Dharmic Sanatana Culture
Wow !! I mean everything ... the trek, harsh ruggedness of the terrain, the sweet people, the cinematography, the joy and peace ... everything was wow !
I recommend Tibet, the Path to Wisdom also from Slice (full documentary). It follows 1 woman Ani in her Himalayan wanderings in search of a secret yoga of magic heat. It seems like Lord of the Rings in the sense of it being a great adventure, but it's real world.
Hi Caroline, thank you so much for making this document. Once again. This is the second time I am watching the same documentary, but there it’s a sequel to a documentary that you have recorded already. I believe this is one of the most beautiful documentary, and when I saw this popped out on my screen, it was a beautiful experience which I want to live, so I am really thankful you when they live the life and made me equity with these beautiful nuns who are living their life in the most difficult situations. It was situation in their life, and that too, with a smile that they own.
sometimes I feel how much we take things for granted- even very mundane stuff like using a toilet, taking a shower. for these people in the harsh weather and the region even a decent toilet and taking a bath would be a luxury. How would they react if they were offered a hot shower ? how would they react to a flush toilet. its tough living a life as these nuns. people like me who has always been a city dweller might not survive for more than a few days under these circumstances. the very bringing up we got is so self consuming- we study to earn and provide for unending needs whereas these people study to pray and bring peace to the world being devoid of even basic needs themselves. Lot of Respect to these women. God bless
I have also stayed in Zanskar for a long time, these people are very kind and worshipers of humanity. Today basic facilities like roads, electricity have reached this isolated area. Because of them this culture is under threat, people will also become businessmen, the importance of money is increasing, I mean these people are also becoming subject to material pleasures. With time it will become difficult to maintain this simple world as it is today.😢
I can’t help but feel that you’ve exposed these people - they were existing peacefully and now the world knows about them and external influence will burst their bubble
Ahee this rememba me to the winters when i was a child here in austria..snow snow frozen cold snowy wunderful...its all quiet and just realy important work for life have been done.. i miss those winters here where humans let snow be snow winter been winter... Now here they put salt upon snow for black streets.. snow away as soon snow arrive... I cant realy handle with and tlak about it where its possible.. to do human again.. Sure happy at this earthful place there🏞️💚
I love this documentary, but would it be possible to add subtitles instead of voice overs. I really want to hear everyones own voice in their own language, it would increase the immersion and cultural appreciation.
All Himalayan regions are very similar to each others but lhadak , In Nepal Mustang and Dholpo are more similar than others places even dialects are almost same.
It is very difficult to determine or assess whether such life in a monastery still makes any sense in today's progressive world. For some it is backwardness, for others it is a retreat from this modern world, which is crowded and full of selfishness and greed. Everyone must make the decision themselves. One thing is certain. The beauty of nature in isolation for a certain time allows a person to remember that everything he does and strives for will sooner or later pass away with his death. 🏔️🙏

Wow
When was this shot?
Nam BUDHAYA
When this video shoot?
Please do mention the year you have visited cause Zanskar Valley have changed a lot now. It will confuse people about the Present situation.
22:51 Could the temple be sitting on a mountain that emits Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)?
Same like Dolpo
At least use the correct map of India
Shameless SLICE you come to our country and our army helps you and still you are showing wrong map of India. Get educated.
Slice don’t make documentaries they license them… go speak to the producers.
