If he can sell 1000 dollars worth of merchandise in one week's time at 2000 dollars, then is mark up is 100% and gross margin is 50% (after cost of goods). 200% gross margin in one month is most probable.

So, in one week:

If the cost of an item is $1 and you sell it for $2, your markup is 100%, but your profit margin is only 50%. Margins can never be more than 100 percent, but markups can be 200 percent, depending on the price and the total cost of the item.
