  • Niharika, an architect by profession and interest, talks about the need and urgency to reimagine our prisons. She puts forward the idea of how design and architecture affect and shape human psychology.
Niharika Sanyal is an architect, deeply interested in how the built environment affects us as emotional beings. Her design thesis at CEPT University, Ahmedabad, received a national award for its search to humanize prisons. She is part of the global Rooms Research Collective on architecture and neuroscience, as Head of Area (South Asia). Niharika enjoys writing on topics that explore the intersection of ideas across disciplines, founding the website ‘The Bricolage’ which recently placed her among the “25 Under 25” community of writers in India (Campus Diaries, 2016). As part of Duke University’s TIP, she has assisted in teaching gifted children. Travels across Europe during an exchange programme at ETH Zurich, and across parts of Asia and Africa, have enriched these explorations.

Well thanks a lot to you first of all your talk inspired me to do my dissertation on Prison Architecture which I was little bit confused before hearing you because of some uncleared doubts in my mind.

Working on my Architecture thesis. Named it as personality reformation centre, instead of Prison.
