Hi there, I have just watched your video ( and lots more beside ) on making trees from old wood doors. Amassing. I am a 72 year young lady that started to go to woodwork classes about a year ago. I love it wished I had found wood work years ago. I am from Washington Tyne and Wear in the United Kingdom. We have lots of Victorian houses and people are always giving these door away so I think I will be having a go at making some of these trees. Thank you for your very informative videos. Regards Jean Young

    WOW!!
I watched this video, bought a door I found on marketplace and spent the day turning it into 8 trees. I just posted them on Facebook for $50 each, and they sold within the hour!!
    I'm making more tomorrow

The background music reminds me of STRANGLEHOLD.
I like the newer videos with no background music ✌️

A great project that only required basic tools! Love it!

I have built several of these for our store. I use old hinges to connect the halves. From there your imagination is endless. They sell well. Merry Christmas.

@@daveparker839 $175-$250 depending on the added bling my wife does and what size.

I like the way you capped the overhead dust collection on the table saw.

Thank you for making those cuts the way I do. Who needs a track saw.? That's why you use a straight edge and make a cut line.

Great project. Only thing I would do different is make the bottom angle from the same wood on 45’s
    Very good videos thanks.

Definitely not shit I'd ever buy, but plenty of people out there love throwing their money away. Such a great idea to 20x your investment! I mean I'd sell spray painted dog turds if there was a market.

I love the project...I see creative angles of this running through my head! Question I have is, do you have concerns of lead paint on the older doors? Suppose you could remove the old paint and "re-stress" it again...

Thinking I'll try little trees using solid cabinet doors. The Restore outlet has cabinet doors at 2 for $5. Found a bunch of solid ones. Will experiment with these before moving on to doors.
My major question is how do you determine size of the base in relation to your size?

Ha. Here in England the first thing that came up when I typed in old oak doors was a medieval oak door for £450. Dont think I'll be chopping that one up 😉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

You probably should wear a filter mask when cutting because the old paint may contain lead.

Great video and awesome idea for the random old door floating around my yard. I wonder, could the two off cuts have been turned into two smaller trees and the whole thing sold as a trio?

I started building some of these today. The angle at the top of my trees is about 38°. How do you cut the 19° angle on the top of the two trim pieces so they miter together correctly? Or am I being too precise? What angle did you cut on the top of your trim pieces? I heard you say something about a reverse 45 but it doesn't seem to me that those angles would miter together very well.

I don’t know if you will see this, but if you do, I seen where you said that your wife blings up the wooden door trees, do you have any pictures? I would love to see them.

Hi Mathew how much do you think you can sell them for it'll be a bit different here in the UK but I've a sauce of similar doors that I've been given for fire wood, but figuring out what to charge people is always difficult

I’d be careful with a lot of these doors. Many of them have lead paint on them and distressing the lead paint can release the lead particles into the air. You need to make sure the door was not painted with lead if it was, you need to have a decontaminated which cost a lot of money, because not only do they have to remove the pen they have to soak the wood to remove the lead from inside the wood.

Binge watching Matt Peech and his wood magic. Great way to kill a rainy day!
Minor, petty criticism... This is only to be positive critique. You built a Christmas tree out of a reclaimed door... if you look close, it is an upside-down crucifix. Not trying to be uber-Christian or troll but if you are cutting the door, maybe make the crucifix right side up..

Hard to find old doors now for less than $50 here in TX.

    Very cool project!
Do you worry about if it's old, there might be lead paint on the door? Do you list it as possibly containing lead paint for a buyer?

Very nice.. How much would you sell these for??
I have a guy locally that pumps these out like cookies but the quality is really bad and I thought about getting into it but I don’t wanna be accused of copying his mine Will be much better in quality.

    • @timhankins3436
      @timhankins3436 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I wouldn't call it copying, I'm sure yours will be a little different. That's what makes wood working fun, every project is different, color, size, shape, wood type. I'd say have at it. I understand your thought process, but isn't imitating the ultimate form of flattery? Go for it. Especially if it's better wood. It's a large market out there, good luck.
