I was going to Colorado this March 2024 for site seeing. It was totally my fault for not doing any research. I thought I was expecting a beautiful scenery but didn't realized it was still winter there. I live most of my life in central Texas and I barely see snow here. Anyway, I went there for 5 days and set a plan every single day here and there. The only thing that set me back is snow. I did have little experience with it in Dallas, Texas for living 7 years there and that help. My wife cannot drive on snow period. So on a particular day, we were to go snow tubing. I have to drive on the mountains with sharp turn. The roads were wet and snowing. I drove like a turtle. While all this, I am scare of heights. 3 souls, my wife, daughter, and I were on the line. I was tense and fixated on the road. My wife was very scared too and she is as tense as I was. When we reached our destination and enjoy the snow tubing, I ask the local person to see if there is another path to Denver, Colorado. She told me there is but it would take double the time. As long as it's better than going through that mountain, Im all for it. At the end of the trip, a snow blizzard came in. Texas does not have blizzard and I have never dug my vehicle out. And so, the trip back to the airport is another adventure of driving but at least it is not on the mountain. Come to rise, someone will have to take the helm. Just give trust and faith toward that person to lead out of danger. For me, I know I won't do that again to endanger my family again.
This man is awesome, he's definitely The last of a dying breed ! Not only accomplishing getting a plane on the ground, but his mindset and the essence of who he is, we need more men like him in this country.
I recall watching your original video and I’m thankful that the algorithm brought this interview into my life as well…amazing to find how he continued to fly and the humble way he gave back to so many in that king air…
This interview is 100 times better than the movie. If I were Mr. White, I would be ticked off how he and his wife were portrayed and the unnecessary fake drama added to the movie.
This was a great interview. Let the man speak for himself. Doug White is a great person, who comes across as a person anyone would be glad to have as a friend!!!!!
I loved this re-telling of the story. Doug got a chance to tell it in true Southern style, continuously backing up so you understand the significance of every obstacle and every decision he faced. Way to go, Doug. Sorry you had to let the King Air go… I’m sure that wasn’t easy.
Talk about the gift to gab. Mr. White told his story from the heart of the horse's mouth, which was more entertaining than what any producer could put on the screen. Mr. White is a true hero, and they're a dying breed. Although the movie has not gotten any good reviews, I plan to watch it because the good guys deserve compensation for their heroic efforts. Share this story with everybody as this will make them better people.
RIP to the pilot who deceaded during this flight. Thank you for this interview showing more than one aspect of the pilot saving his family, and afterwards, many others. Good people do exist.
I could listen to this guy tell a story for days. I thought I may not like him when I saw the LSU shirt....But even with that hes one helluva guy......great dude and one heck of a job landing that plane with Gods help of course. THey are all very blessed to still be alive......awesome story
That guy could talk at the bottom of a swimming pool with a mouthful of marbles. I think there was quite a few other stories in there that could have been told about his trips down to Haiti. He was great talent!
Great story! I’ve seen the ATC video of this and really enjoyed seeing this interview. His knowledge of flight definitely helped him and some of the circumstances before this really seemed like a divine intervention of knowledge needed before it all happened. Down to the right seat flying and radio talk button.
This was a great interview. Too bad they had to Hollywoodize the movie in order to check all the boxes to get it produced the way they did. As a private pilot myself, I was able to follow alongside his challenges. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy the movie, seeing all the nonsense drama added into the story. This interview and the real facts of the story are much more inspirational.
I haven’t seen the movie. Did they really hollywoodize it? Like change things to make it more dramatic? Jeez I hate that. It’s like what they did to Secretariat. I want the true authentic story, not some bastardized version.
I agree 100%. After having watched a couple of TH-camrs relating this event, I came across this interview and in the first few minutes of the interview when the film was mentioned I decided to watch the film before watching this interview. What a wast of time, I totally agree, the film does the real story and Doug and family, no justice. Watching this after having watched the movie was truly riviting, great respect to all invloved and what a gentleman and good man Doug is 👌
What an incredible man 💪. What an inspirational story. The way he continued on in his life is a testament to his strength and resiliency. The world is a better place with him in it. Thanks for sharing this amazing interview. 👏
What an incredible story!! Thank you and Doug for putting this together. (I saw that the comments were sitting at number 666 and I couldn't let it sit there for long 🙂
I admire Doug White, that was an amazing flight. I was learning to fly in 1981 and my 2nd solo was an emergency, torque tube in the left elevator bent up mid flight in between Ocala. (OCF) and Williston, Fl, (X60) my home base...I did some damage on landing but I made it with help from my CFI on the ground & a little left crosswind to help raise my wing on touch down, I then sat in the middle of the runway and cried like a baby, and did not fly again for a year. Hat's off to Doug White, that was a great job!
"Another one then free trips that cost u 2500.00"I'm from Florida and this one these straight southern men right here. U don't get nothing but raw truth with these men. I love my southern people.
Doug had only about a 10% chance of success. Sometimes 10% is all you need. My dad is a pilot. Well, every time this video comes up l on TH-cam, I watch it. I can't help myself. Doug saved his family!
@@Lev53420 Not to compare, but just to "make conversation," I've watched it many times and can't come up with a number... But I think the first day I saw it, I stopped whatever I was doing and watched it 3 times! I had dinner much later! (lol). I've seen a few crashes and heard some really good (true) stories, but this one really "gets to me!" If there's a time where there's nothing much happening in the video, I just focus on how amazing it is that not only did he live to tell about it, but his family and the plane were not damaged at all! Lol-- I'll stop. ❤️
I would disagree, it was more like 70/30. I'm a multi pilot and the time it takes to get your head around multi engine ops is very short. It's more about training for when things go wrong and understanding your aircraft fully. Obviously the king air is a bigger plane but it's fairly straightforward if you are a pilot and understand the basics. I'm pretty sure most pilots could get it down, especially on a long runway. Obviously adding in all the stress and startle factor does play a huge role. Not trying to take away what he did I'm just saying I don't think it's anywhere close to 10%
@@Jjengering I completely agree with you. I copied the number "10" because that's the number that some random pilot gave as the odds of successfully landing. If you've piloted a plane, then you would have a basic understanding of how to keep it level and what to do. 70/30 sounds better, definitely. Thanks.
Doug, you are a good man. In my opinion, there is nothing better than being identified as "A Good Man". Congratulations on earning this distinguished status.
What amazing interview! I saw the story on “Pilot debrief “ and then saw this interview. Such a terrific story of God’s protection for this man and his family!! And on Easter Sunday even!!! Many blessings to this exceptional gentleman!! I just found the movie on prime, never heard a thing about it. However having done Wyatt Earp with Dennis Quid I swore I would never pay a single penny for a movie with him in it EVER. On our set he was rude & abusive to everyone and even ‘man handled’ me!!! I personally would like an apology from the jerk. I know that he was addicted to drugs at the time, and I know he has now “found God” etc etc etc. Having had addicted family members I know full well that you make amends to those you hurt…. But I was a little pion.
I've recently watched "On a Wing and a Prayer" and I've gotta say, this interview and your previous coverage of this incident, are both better than it was.
So what a ride, fantastic interview, great story that does show miracles happen everyday, just look for them. I found out about Doug through the Pilot Debrief channel then your channel popped up, movie night and popcorn tonight. thanks
This is a remarkable story of a Man, with a Life Changing Experience. Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with us... GOD saw fit to give Doug a second chance and Doug made the very best of the opportunity.
Doug, we salute you. Great story, you did what you had to do when you had no choice. Appreciate the choices you made as a result. I know some people ask for autographs, I’d be honored to shake your hand.
Huge respect. As remarkable as his experience was when this incident went down, I'm absolutely blown away by his actions since then. Really inspiring what Doug has done. Again, huge respect.
So good to hear the story again, this time from the man himself. Doug wasn't kidding when he said that he and the good Lord were hand flying that aircraft. Eagerly awaiting the release of A Wing and a Prayer.
I had what I call, "a passing knowledge" of the story. I knew the pilot had died suddenly, and the passenger had managed to land a King Air safely. I was impressed. Im not an aviation expert, but i know what a King Air is, and how difficult a task that would be for a non pilot to pull off. Now, hearing the man tell the story himself. . . Impressed is an understatement. I didn't know that his family was also on board. This guy is an excellent example of what a good human is supposed to be. It was very humbling to watch and listen to him share this with all of us.
this is a great video. I flew general aviation aircraft for 18 years. I also stopped flying when it became too expensive. Great story and a great man. And a great interviewer with great use of video and sound equipment. Thank you for taking the time to create this.
I had the good fortune to hear Capt. Al Haynes (United 232) speak at a seminar one time and he was really good, a really good story teller. I think Doug is every bit as good of a story teller. I really enjoyed this video!
I’m not a pilot. But I love watching planes fly and amazed by the people that can fly them. The algorithm brought me here after watching this 17 yr girl student pilot land her plane after going solo for the first time. This guy reminded me of my grandfather. He was a great story teller. I went from happy to sad, mixed with all kinds of feelings. Even almost tearing up because his mother could have lost an entire generation of family. Thank you for this interview. I’m a new fan of this channel now.
Hebrews 1:14 (Obviously if you believe the Bible is God breathed) says "Are they (Angels, from the preceding verse) not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation? That seems to confirm you rcomment.
This man had a personality I would initially not describe as warm, but wow what compassion to use his plane for so many awesome kind generous ventures!
A couple of years ago I started watching TH-cam videos and got hooked on it. It took me a while to find my genre and I noticed that after just watching the videos that showed up when I logged in that there 2 types that I was watching more than the others. Tornados and Airplanes. I don’t stories that end in tragedy so with my 2 topics the ones that ended positively were few and far between. One day I stumbled across Doug’s story and since my name is Doug it caught my eye so I watched it. I was fascinated with every bit if his “Incident” and I bet I’ve watched the actual flight that happened on Easter Sunday 30-40 times. No joke. I’ve watched the one where all the people that were involved that day got together to each of their parts that they played that day to help Doug land safely a handful of times probably. And just now I watch this awesome interview. Doug should get his own channel in here and become a story teller. He would get millions of subscribers with whatever stories he would want to tell. Of course it wasn’t all happy moments to this story. He lost a younger brother that passed way too early in life and Pilot Joe that was obviously a very good man who passed doing what he loved. Ironically without these horrible things happening then none of us ever know Doug White and all the others involved. You know Doug would much rather not be known for this and still have his brother & Joe still with us. But since we don’t have any say so on people leave us we still have to live and go in the direction we are sent in. As good as Doug was at making us kind of feel what he felt that day I still can’t wrap my head around how focused he stayed when he just buried his brother and dies right in front of him and he and the people he loves the most in the world are in unimaginable situation that only he can get them out of. This what movies are made of lol. So so many things had to be aligned perfectly for this to have the ending that it did. We can think God for that. He had everyone needed for this to end happily in the right place at the right time. Thanks for reading book i just typed lol. I’m too tired to proofread so I apologize for all the typos and words left out but you can figure it out. Great Story!
Just an incredible story and Doug is to be commended for acting cool and professional in a situation that could have gone very differently. Also the best quote I’ve ever heard- “If I’m going to die, I’m going to die trying not to.” It’s the three most important rules which he nailed - aviate, navigate and communicate. His first priority was to control his plane (get the autopilot out of climb), then navigate and his communication was fantastic. His focus on these exponentially increased his odds. Textbook flying and should be shown to all new / aspiring pilots as exhibit A of the most critical phase - aviate - control your aircraft in stabilized flight worry about navigation and communication once you have control.
He said later that in his current phase of training in the 172 which was at about 35 hours or so, his young instructor was hammering him on proper radio communication. It showed! And kuddos to his instructor.
Doug White is a man with a genuine big heart, problem solver, full on integrity and values!! A man’s man!! His bravery & compassion will go down in history for all to learn from and admire! Well done Sir Mr. Doug White!! Respect!! ❤
So many things lined up to give Doug a fighting chance. As a student pilot, how many times has an instructor insisted you fly right seat? Just one month before the incident, this happened to Doug. That right seat time turned out to be a huge help. His curiosity about how to use the radios was another critical item.
A shame at how the movie destroyed the actual story, couldn't even finish the movie. Listened to the ATC audio a few years back and that was amazing. This is a great interview.
The book is always better than a movie. I’m an avid reader so I’ve read books and then seen the movies. Interesting story here though. What an experience.
My man Doug went ultra instinct in that plane! My new hero. I been studying to get my remote pilot license and now have been gaining an interest in actual flying, we'll see what happens.
This man is amazing. The movie is inspirational and heart rendering, but I had to know more about what happened. His interview with FSMania was engrossing. Doug White is an exceptional storyteller - his interview is a must see after watching the movie. Best to all of the miracle workers involved in what Doug said so lightly "the incident".
@@FSMaNiASir, you did the job the way it needed to be done. Quality interview and video with no agenda other than telling the story. Refreshing. A man with his character would have been a terrible blend with any of the aforementioned “celebrities”.
As he describes the ATCs friend up in Connecticut, it really hits home how much of life is about people and relationships. Whether it's a lifelong friendship or an obscure colleague, all we have is each other, and it can save your life.
Doug, I heard your exchange with the ground station. I was extremely impressed with your composure and bravery. Where I come from there is a notion of a "real man". This is not just a person who wears pants, but a person who is capable of rising to overwhelming odds against him and defend those who depend on you. You are that person, Sir. You are the kind of people who built this country and is called a "Salt of the Earth". I surely hope that there are enough people left in this country to defend it from external enemies and most importantly from the internal ones.
I first heard Doug's Story last night. Now I can't stop watching this. What a kind hearted man. Great interview. I can't wait to see On A Wing and A Prayer
Thank you for the interview, as I saw the actual video myself, a year or so ago, and very much enjoyed Doug explaining the whole sequence once again. Appreciate you taking the time to do this!
Doug it's been a few years since this came out and I only just found it today. I am a retired airline pilot with nearly 50 years of aviation experience. Being a pilot is all about having a particular ming set. You sir clearly have that mind set. I applaude your entire journey from your first breath in life to your first lesson as a private pilot to the experience you had at RSW to today. You have the mind set for what "it" takes. Whatever challenges you, you have the mind set to succeed. Congratulations of living a wonderful life.
I really enjoyed this video.....nobody can tell the story better than the main character. Doug is definitely a one of a kind hero! Thanks for sharing this video.
oh man that was so great ! might be about the best hour I've ever spent on youtube :) Doug you are a King ! love the way you think, the way you talk, and especially how you used 'the incident' to make yourself a better man and the world a better place. very inspiring. also liked how this interviewer just shut up and let the guy talk - so true what he said about how if he had gone on oprah or ellen they would have made it into something stupid. this guy knew he had a gem in front of the camera and just let him tell his story.
I just watched the video on Pilot Debrief. I have to say you did a fantastic job sir. When I heard the tires touch the runway I cheered! Perfect landing! Congratulations on bringing you and your family home safely.
I had heard the breakdown of the incident and knew he went on to pilot the same plane, but did not know of his charitable work using the plane. Amazing story and man. I hope a bunch people of people make a bunch of $ from the movie, as I know much of that will go to good causes.
Some of the things he said had me crying and some had me laughing so hard. Telling the wife and kids to hush cause "he's busy", asking them if he could taxi, and then "you ever seen a lime green fire truck?" i almost peed from laughing so hard.
That is astounding he had recently got back into flying and even was taught how to fly from the passenger seat.. If all of those little details didn’t align, including knowing the radio controls, this could have been so different. Gods hand truly must have been upon them, amazing!
I listened to the full ATC audio from this flight and i remember another pilot had come across by accident saying "they aint gonna make it". Doug went proved them all wrong ❤

The trailer was enough for me. Cringe1
This was a great interview. Let the man speak for himself. Doug White is a great person, who comes across as a person anyone would be glad to have as a friend!!!!!
Yes. I want to have his baby and I am older than he is. lol. Not even in the baby making business anymore. lol
I loved this re-telling of the story. Doug got a chance to tell it in true Southern style, continuously backing up so you understand the significance of every obstacle and every decision he faced. Way to go, Doug. Sorry you had to let the King Air go… I’m sure that wasn’t easy.
Big thanks to Mr. White for taking this interview and sharing his story🙏
Thanks for the interview. Dude is just rock solid.
Amazing! Kudos to Doug!!! You remained calm and collected while in such a difficult situation!
What a legend doug your family must look at you like your captain America and they wouldnt be wrong. You inspire me
Doug, you are all man! We are so proud of you and happy you made it safely back, with your family. ^ 5.
That guy could talk at the bottom of a swimming pool with a mouthful of marbles.
I think there was quite a few other stories in there that could have been told about his trips down to Haiti.
He was great talent!
great to see Doug is an Xbox player and not a Playstation fanboy
RESPECT
Great story! I’ve seen the ATC video of this and really enjoyed seeing this interview. His knowledge of flight definitely helped him and some of the circumstances before this really seemed like a divine intervention of knowledge needed before it all happened. Down to the right seat flying and radio talk button.
This man is as great a storyteller as he is a hero and national treasure.
Watching this after having watched the movie was truly riviting, great respect to all invloved and what a gentleman and good man Doug is 👌
A man of good character and quality, there aren't enough dougs around anymore.
What an incredible man 💪. What an inspirational story. The way he continued on in his life is a testament to his strength and resiliency. The world is a better place with him in it. Thanks for sharing this amazing interview. 👏
Couldn't agree more!
Not a stretch to see why a sensible like him declined interviews with Degeneres and Winfrey 😂 Good job, sir! Much respect.
Dougs story about how he met his wife cracked me up 😂😂😂
What an incredible story!!
Thank you for sharing. Great work walking away from pitch control issues. Cheers
I’m glad you made it out safely. Bless you 😊
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. If the plane can fly again, so much the better!
Same wifh me this is like the 3rd time I watch this video and I have watch the first video about 5 times.
@@Lev53420
Not to compare, but just to "make conversation," I've watched it many times and can't come up with a number... But I think the first day I saw it, I stopped whatever I was doing and watched it 3 times! I had dinner much later! (lol). I've seen a few crashes and heard some really good (true) stories, but this one really "gets to me!"
If there's a time where there's nothing much happening in the video, I just focus on how amazing it is that not only did he live to tell about it, but his family and the plane were not damaged at all!
Not trying to take away what he did I'm just saying I don't think it's anywhere close to 10%
@@Jjengering
I completely agree with you. I copied the number "10" because that's the number that some random pilot gave as the odds of successfully landing. If you've piloted a plane, then you would have a basic understanding of how to keep it level and what to do. 70/30 sounds better, definitely. Thanks.
@@JjengeringAgreed. 10% was a bad guess and not valid.
This was very emotional for me. Thanks for the experience.
So glad you and the family got home safely Mr. Doug.
What a great interview, coupled with Doug's story telling ability.!!!!
I've recently watched "On a Wing and a Prayer" and I've gotta say, this interview and your previous coverage of this incident, are both better than it was.
Dennis Quaid was horrible in that movie. I actually couldn't finish watching it.
The wife jumping into the pilots seat kinda wrecked it for me, this sooty was intense enough with out a Hollywood BS injection. @@kdsq9605
So what a ride, fantastic interview, great story that does show miracles happen everyday, just look for them. I found out about Doug through the Pilot Debrief channel then your channel popped up, movie night and popcorn tonight. thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sometimes heroes just do what they have to do, well done.
This is a remarkable story of a Man, with a Life Changing Experience. Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview with us... GOD saw fit to give Doug a second chance and Doug made the very best of the opportunity.
Doug is a great storyteller! I could listen to him tell stories all day.
Me too!
@@FSMaNiA You did an excellent job, doing this interview. You let him talk. ^ 5. Good job.
Can’t wait to see the movie. Doug’s got his head in the right place.
So good to hear the story again, this time from the man himself. Doug wasn't kidding when he said that he and the good Lord were hand flying that aircraft. Eagerly awaiting the release of A Wing and a Prayer.
Thanks for commenting and best regards, Tim
I can't wait for it either.
Thanks for watching!
Hands down the best interview I have ever watched! Awesome job Doug!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you kindly and welcome aboard! Best regards, Tim
As someone who is a skeptic, I have to say it really seems like angels lined this up perfectly.
Hebrews 1:14 (Obviously if you believe the Bible is God breathed) says "Are they (Angels, from the preceding verse) not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?
That seems to confirm you rcomment.
Yea let's ignore the heroic measures this guy performed and chalk it up to ghosts.
@@TheLifeOfNurse then call it synchronicity and I bet you are just a joy to be around.
The only thing that confirms is that someone knows how to write a story and make money from it. @57whizzer
RSW is a great airport if you are in that situation. Set off about 3 miles from 75 and a large piece of property
Thank you for sharing.
God. Both times.
@@pianoreigns Bingo!
This is a great example of the importance of being able to maintain your composure under stress
That was an excellent story of a person and an incident that could not be told any better ......
Go for it!
This guy is a real life hero! Amazing what you were able to do man! God bless you!
Good man stood tall for himself and his family in a terrible situation . Glad to see he did pushed on with his flying and has made his mark.👍
I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to interview Doug especially since he turned down so many offers from television celebrities.
@@FSMaNiASir, you did the job the way it needed to be done. Quality interview and video with no agenda other than telling the story.
Refreshing.
A man with his character would have been a terrible blend with any of the aforementioned “celebrities”.
@@richardcranium3579 I agree.
As he describes the ATCs friend up in Connecticut, it really hits home how much of life is about people and relationships. Whether it's a lifelong friendship or an obscure colleague, all we have is each other, and it can save your life.
What a treat!! Thank you Doug and Tim!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a fabulous interview, he was just left alone to share the the experience of his story with the King Air.
I look forward to watching the movie.
What a great interview!! Btw,I watched the movie. It was good!
Our pleasure!
Couldn't agree more!
What a great interview. Fantastic job getting himself and family safely back to the ground.
oh man that was so great ! might be about the best hour I've ever spent on youtube :)
Doug you are a King ! love the way you think, the way you talk, and especially how you used 'the incident' to make yourself a better man and the world a better place. very inspiring.
also liked how this interviewer just shut up and let the guy talk - so true what he said about how if he had gone on oprah or ellen they would have made it into something stupid. this guy knew he had a gem in front of the camera and just let him tell his story.
Was it that long...I was riveted. And I am a woman!
Metaphors
I had a laugh when he said the Fort Myers runway threshold was displaced 1000 feet - "Kind of a waste of runway".
At end… when I land, that’s if I land😅😅😅😅😅
This man is a hero saving his family and possibly others. Simple Outstanding . 🏆
Got to love that he wore his LSU polo for his interview. The man is a pipe hittin member of the tribe. Go tigers 🐅
Thanks for sharing your story, Doug. Im glad you and your family are safe and together.
A very important interview, much appreciated.
