We were those 4 guys you ran into, I will say with 100% certainty, the statement of that other guy being the worst bugle you’ve ever heard is very accurate. That was indeed the worst bugle a human could ever make. Haha. Good to meet you in the woods man, next year if you come back out hit us up.
For those wondering... This IS the normal elk hunting experience across the west. Elk are the most in demand animal in the Rockies. They typically aren't buggling, other hunters everywhere, and if there are elk they jumped the fence onto private.
If you can't find elk in Colorado - you just have bad luck..... Other Hunter's aren't even the problem, it's the million yuppies hiking around everywhere. They're everywhere all week long !!!
@@grant6608 yes, every trail head I went to had guys on e-bikes or 15 trucks parked at each one. Some one referenced it as “just an exspensive camping trip” and that’s about right.
Ive been dreaming of a hunt like this....combining two of my favorite things, backpacking and hunting. The thought of being out there and doing both at the same time just gives me chills and gets me pumped. Hopefully someday
That’s the way it was this year. I would usually run into the same 3 guys in the area we normally hunt. This year on opening day I ran into 9 different hunters before noon. Talk to a couple of them and for them it was their first or second years hunting. There’s been a lot of push to get out doors. That’s the nature of the beast. Public land is a grind.
Its my life long dream to hunt wild elk in the wilderness of America my family has lived in this country since before it was a country and i dream of hunting my native lands and ive spent 17 years practicing with a bow and preparing for it but now after seeing tons of videos like this im not sure if i want to chase that dream anymore cause it seems like im being delusional if i go out there with high hopes
Welcome to the club buddy...I've done Colorado otc and never even saw an elk! Didn't even see one from the truck at any point over the whole trip...seen plenty of hunters though! I call it hiking while carrying equipment not hunting lol. Great video anyway
Love the video! I'm planning a self guided OTC archery elk hunt for next year. Could you make a video of your gear list and break it down for someone who has zero elk hunting experience/guidance other than TH-cam?
You don't need all the brand name gear - you just need to get out there... Source out trusted cheap hiking gear & hacks... Hikers are out in the Backcountry all year round, hunters are part part timers..... I've seen successful guys out there in jeans, shoes & a bow !!!
Great video Chris. Nice to see that a lot of hunts are hard work, but don't always produce the goods. Stays fun and a privilege to be out there. Better luck next time.
Awesome video! I’m gonna sound like a little fanboy over here but dude Chris when I meant you at tac in Michigan 2023, your such a laid back and nice guy and I was so nervous to walk up to you and say hi but it all went away when I realized how solid of a dude you were! Hope to see you there next year and good luck the rest of the season!
If your on public land you are going to see other hunters. It can work to your advantage to a point. Other hunters, by their mere presence in the woods can push the unsuspecting elk right into your lap.
Out of curiosity, and I’m sure this has been addressed before…..but what is your go to footwear for hunting mountains like this? I am in northern Utah. This is my first year hunting in mountains like this. When it comes to footwear I’m curious as to what’s recommended
How do you like the briksdal mtns? I’ve been wearing the nevadas for the past 2 years but I’m about to get a new pair. Can’t decide between the briksdal mtn or hanwag alverstone 2
Bought mt bow in September...been shooting like a mad man haha....Lord wiling ill do something like this someday. I honestly think finding Archer is going to change my whole life. I AM THE ARCHER NOW....in somali pirate voice LOL
That is the blue collar hunting life. A lot of people aren’t fortunate enough to do an otc elk hunt every year. These hunting influencers are like oh well, on to the next one.😂
How about stop complaining about the elk pressure when its people like you who are the major contributors. Seriously either tough it out and figure it out or quit being the dude out just shooting video. Good for you, you get to hunt again for elk.
Haha, the absolute worst bugle I ever heard here in Colorado proved to be coming from a four point bull. I missed a shot on him because I was expecting to sneak up on another hunter and not a young lonesome bull elk. Ya never know, be ready !
If you care about elk in Colorado, don't go to otc units and add to the pressure. All of us in the east need to start asking ourselves how important elk hunting is to you. Build points for a good unit with healthy herds or stay home. I have chosen to stay home.
I get what you’re saying but that falls on Colorado for not managing the amount of OTC tags they give out. If the herd is suffering that bad then they need to change something

I was about to comment the same! Haha you beat me to it. I just sent this video to Chris.

$780 up in smoke. I did the same thing. Highly doubt I’ll do OTC CO. It’s almost like they are using OTC as a cash cow instead of conservation.
ding ding ding ☝they don't care. Its all political

Gotta make all the money they can before the wolves they’re trying to introduce rids people of their right to hunt.
Thanks for the video. That was reality. Elk hunting without a guide, to put you on elk, is hard.

Worst call ever, the whooohie 😂
Hey do you realize how many elk I've called in with a hoochie mama,,,,,,
Exactly 0 😂

I’ve got more respect for you than most on here. Using a bow and really hunting the animal vs try to shoot it from higher powered scoped rifle.

Never ever camp in an old burn. Those trees go down in just a little wind.
Love the vids might start my own soon!
This is only in special units that you can get over the counter for archery tags for elk
You are such an inspiration to me bro
good luck out west !
can you do a video with a full pack layout w gear and everything please?
I wish I could tell from the video, but which vanes are you using? They look like the x3 Vanes but not 100% positive. Does anybody know?
What was the cow call you used that you were pressing?
What kinda camo you wear? Ima go with Conervation Officer green lol.
Try Peak Refuel and PackIt Gourmet.....better than Mountain House by far....Bushkas Kitchen makes some decent stuff too
It feels illegal to be here 12 minutes after post lol, love the videos 🤙🏽
What is that calf call your using?
Huh, it’s almost like pimping out public land for content and your own personal profit might not be the best thing long term. You don’t say. SMH
Chris, were you using the 33 or the 29.5 Lift?
What pack are you wearing man?
What tent do you use?
No Elk, just keep introducing more Wolves, that'll fix everything! >..>

Draw a Montana tag I’ll take you out!
Come hunt with me in Oklahoma
What pack do you use?
Looks like a Kifaro
What fire went through that area?
What kind of Sika top is that one? The green one you are wearing at the end..
Well like you said hunting the west has been ruined due to social media being the biggest factor.
I bet if you bugled you'd get a better response.. and locate elk
love the vids but got a weird question what color is your truck looks like a different black from the view
