      I think he is Frederick III, the Elector of Saxony - he helped Charles win the imperial crown but also protected Luther... he is a Catholic (but is unclear if he is also a protestant) .... I think he could not be the "leader of the Rhineland" since this area could either fall under the rule or influence of the Prince-Archbishop of Trier (ecclesiastical elector) or to the Duke of Bavaria, William IV (lay elector) or to Louis V, the Elector of the Palatinate...

    Not to make a big deal of it, but the Turks retreated in the summer 1532 without even reaching Vienna because previously they broke their teeth at the Siege of Koszeg, a small town at Austiran-Hungarian border, which was defended against all odds by Ferdinand's captain, the Croatian general and diplomat Nikola Jurišić. He and his crew of some 700 men resisted the 100 000 strong Ottoman force so fiercely, that Suleiman gave up all hope of besieging Vienna, which was much more heavily defended and fortified, so he simply turned around and retreated back to east.

      in 1532 Karl The Fifth was hiding with more than 200 k soliders in Linz as the ottoman Sultan arrived in Styria with 150 k soldiers. The Sultan wrote a message where he said dont call yourself a king when you hide like a pussy and if you are a man lets go to Vienna and fight there in a battle but Karl the Fifth didn't answer and didnt dare to face Sultan Suleiman 😂💀. They were the biggest pussys i have ever seen. Even tho the Habsburger had more soldiers they refused to face the ottomans in a battle in 1532. If Karl the Fifth accepted the wish of the ottoman Sultan and fought at Vienna he would have lost for 100 percent against the ottomans and whole Europe would fall💀. And also forget Vienna Sultan Suleimans only goal was to destroy Karl V, Ferdiand 1 and their army in a battle so nobody could protect Europe from Suleiman the Magnificient anymore. Why should he tried hard to conqeure Vienna if he could get whole HRE and more with just one battle?

    Shouldn't Países Bajos be translated by Netherlands? Or is it another "Países Bajos" we're talking here?

    • @Lily1127channel
      @Lily1127channel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well, it is not the Netherlands we know today as a country. I thought a lot about this translations, and I'm still not 100% sure what is the most correct word to use.
      The historical territory called Low Countries also contained many territories and cities that belong to Belgium now. For example, Charles himself was born in Ghent, Flanders, in his father's court, which is now a city in Belgium. The territory that Charles inherited from his father is called either Low Countries or Habsburg Netherlands in historical documents in English language, but it mustn't be confused with the country today called 'Netherlands', because they are not the same completely. That Netherlands we know today - which does not include Belgian or Luxembourg territories anymore - only exist from 1839.

    The reality was quite different than what this tv show portrays. Suleiman the Magnificient invaded entire modern day Austria in 1532 and reached even Switzerland and sent troops to Southern Germany up to Baltic Sea. Neither Archiduke Ferdinand of Austria and Bohemia, nor his brother, Charles V the king of Spain and two Sicilies, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire could confront the Ottoman army. Suleiman wrote a letter to Charles V as follows:
    "For a long time you have been bragging about courage and call yourself as bravest of all braves. I have marched against you many times until now, I am doing whatever I wish in your territory. But there is no sign of neither you, nor your brother. You have no right to claim sovereignty and talk about courage.
    Don't you feel ashamed when you look at your soldiers or at least your wife? Maybe women has more pride than you.
    If you are really a man, come to the battlefield. By this way, we can better understand what God has planned for us. Let's fight against each other for our claims for sovereignty with you on the plain of Vienna.
    So that your poor christian subjects find some peace. Otherwise, don't consider hunting like foxes, when lions are not around as courage. If you don't come to battlefield even in this occassion, get a spindle and spinning wheel as ladies, and don't claim sovereignty and talk about courage."

      It's not a poor tv show, actually it is much more accurate historically than the Turkish ones like Magnificent Century (which I really like!). It shows how the Ottomans were a great threat to Austria and whole Europe, it also shows that Charles never entered a battle personally against Suleiman, and it also shows that the Ottomans never got to capture Vienna no matter how they wanted to (mostly because of geographical and weather reasons).
      This is also a part of this very tv series in which Suleiman accuses Charles of avoiding battle, just like you mentioned: th-cam.com/video/yxcobYM44aQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @Lily1127channel
      @Lily1127channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure you mean the 1532 Vienna Campaign? Not the big 1529 siege?
      The 1532 campaign did not quite reach Vienna, at least not in time to do proper siege, as far as I know, due to the heroic fight the small Hungarian-Croatian troop took up to the Ottomans at Kőszeg.
      "Suleiman reached the fort of Köszeg on 5 August 1532, which was defended by less than 1,000 troops due to Ferdinand's earlier withdrawal. The Ottomans besieged Köszeg for 25 days, and the Croatian-Hungarian force successfully rebuked every attack. Suleiman had hoped that the siege would draw Ferdinand's army out into a battle between the forces, but Köszeg received no aid.
      After the 25-day siege, Suleiman eventually retreated once the seasonal rain began, fearing a similar fate as his previous attempt to take Vienna. The vulnerability of Vienna was made clear to Charles V, who sent 80,000 Imperial troops to aid Ferdinand in the city. The weather, the delay due to Köszeg, and the amassed Imperial army led Suleiman to retreat to Constantinople.

      @Lily1127channel  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@נעםמרקוביץ Yeah I thought so, that it rather referred to the famous 1529 siege.
      Well from Charles's point of view, he did retreat without a fight 😀At least it is exactly something Charles V would say. The people at Kőszeg did all the dirty work for Charles, none of his own troops had to engage. Well Suleiman did march to Vienna after Kőszeg, but because of the already bad autumn weather and the additional forces he knew Charles had sent to Vienna's aid, in the end he decided he would not waste his troops in an impossible siege and retreated before any fight at Vienna.
      So it does not rewrite history, on the contrary, it is quite accurate about how Charles V would put things, without acknowledging anything the people of Kőszeg did for him.
