    Hi ! I'm a french pilot with a PAP mini trike and a Thor 202 polini engine. I confirm your impressions : this thor 202 is the best polini engine. I fly with a Dudek Warp2 (20 m2) and a total weight of 140/145Kg (all included with gasoline and glider). I'm under 4l/h all trimed (50 km/h) and under 5l/h full untrim (65 km/h). Ans as you said ... very linear delivering power !!! Thx for your video.

    I have over 50 hours on my polini Thor 202. I change the oil in the wet clutch every 2 flights, and also check and clean the spark plug at the same time, and tune as needed, I have the 140 2 blade eprop and I love it. I weigh 250 pounds and have plenty of power. Maintenance is the key that I have learned with it. I’ve changed the jets 4 times when I first received it and it runs perfectly. I’m very happy and will recommend it to anyone who asks me about it. I have plenty of videos on TH-cam showing it.

    Hello. I'm in Pocatello as well and looking into getting into paramotors. I fly my RC airplanes out of those same fields once in awhile and have a private pilots license, so I'm not completely clueless. Anyway, I was wondering if we could get in contact and I could pick your brains a bit next time you're going up?

    Just finished watching your EOS Quattro vs 185 moster R comparison video, what are the pluses or minis with polini Thor 202 vs EOS Quattro, want to make sure I’m spending the money for the top 4 stroke, thought about electric for the lack of vibration, the linear power with no engine noise. Thanks Trent

    • @trentwhitney8346
      @trentwhitney8346  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ChrisJewell7333 excellent! Of the three engines I like the Polini Thor 202 the best so far. It’s almost as fuel efficient as the Quattro, a little lighter than the Quattro and the most powerful of the three. Please understand I only have about 8 hours on the Polini. I flew the Quattro for around 35-40 hours, I believe, before I sold it. The Quattro was absolutely the most pleasing to fly and the most linear. I will likely get another after they work out the bugs.

      @@trentwhitney8346 thanks Trent, Ive only flown the moster 185 i have 3 motors 2 complete setups and one as backup so nothing to compare with, its been a long year trying to figure out what direction to lean to 4 stroke or electric so your info and video’s are helping. Thanks

      @trentwhitney8346  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ChrisJewell7333 You bet! The electric is super cool, but the flight time for a big guy like me in the mountains is only approximately 20 minutes. The electric is also heavy and the same weight all the time. I prefer to take off heavy, burn fuel and land light. I'd also prefer a stout titanium frame on the electric, but I think everyone building them is only using aluminum.

    I'm surprised the Polini didn't have a bigger gap in climb rate. Even with the Vito being lighter and a little more RPM it can't swing as steep of pitch as the Polini. I was on the fence between the 202 and Vito after running my Polini 130 Thor Evo for several years but went with the Vito because the weight and being a little less complex. I was a bit bitter with Polini and their absolute garbage pull starts and lack of parts support. It did however run great, vibrated less and honestly feels like it make nearly as much power as the Vito even being lower displacement.

    This was also a durability test, 3 min at WOT straight is asking a lot so why I made the comment. Notice I didnt say what they're capable or rated for, just pointing out WOT over minutes is a challenge in general.
    I'm just about 120 kg full tank, I burn 3.5 L/hr consistently. I also have it tuned properly more often than not.

    The question is: How many hours will the Polini perform well? It´s a real unreliable engine if you are not a mechanic, and it´s better to always have some spare cylinders in stock. These 2 stroke engines are simply not designed for changing altitude or atmospheric conditions. Carburetor settings are always only a compromise as long as you can´t adjust the mixture to the altitude by EGT. Polini only can sell these engines in significant numbers because there is no alternative on the market.

      Polini claims service intervals that are several times longer than the Vitos, that has some value, if true. I know the early 202 had some carb/compression issues but it sounds like those got sorted out fairly quick. Not terrible for a new liquid cooled engine.
