She never said that’s why the riot started. She said women wouldn’t stick together for any reason EVEN for something as basic or trivial or universally wanted/needed as tampons.

When you were mentioning how much time they spend alone, unsupervised, remember that they're in minimum security. I was at a minimum security work camp in NV (so it wasn't the feds like in OITNB). It was really small (only 125-150 inmates at max capacity but we usually had about 115). But there were no locked doors (day or night), no barbed wire, no security towers, there was a fence but the door just latched shut, and usually there were only like 3 COs on duty and that's it. The COs would do a walk once an hour but otherwise they usually stayed in the office. On our days off (we worked for NV Dept of Forestry) and after work, we had free reign of the compound from 9am-8pm (or 9am-6pm in the winter). We could go wherever as we pleased. And if you needed to talk to a CO at any time during the night, you'd just go outside walk over to the office and knock on the door. You could go the whole day and only see a CO in passing a couple times. Like, if you wanted to "escape" you could literally just walk away and no one would know you were gone until 11am/6pm count. But you'd obv be really dumb to escape since if/when you're eventually caught, you're going straight back to the main prison.
Bennett was the one who was the baby daddy but Daya seduced Mendez right after she found out she was pregnant so when he was caught & it was discovered Daya was pregnant they just assumed it was him, so he got arrested eventually released & living with his mom
I thought the reason that the prisoners are able to walk around the prison and stuff like that was because Litchfield was a private prison. Cause as soon as they were transfered to the other prison after the riot, they werent able to do that anymore.
It wasn't a private prison until MCC took over. But I assumed they had that freedom because it was a minimum security prison. When Jessica talked about doors having to be buzzed, waiting in a bubble to go through the next door sounded like Maximum, which we see in clips of Max in the show
The first prison from seasons 1 to 5 is minimum security, the last one in seasons 6 and 7 was maximum security. Also if I remeber correctly the first prison was not private at the very beginning, a private corporation takes it over in season 3 when it was about to shut down. Plus the second prison is not a completely different one, it's still "Litchfield federal prison" but maximum security instead of minimum, so I guess that's why there's less freedom of movement
I ended up really attached to Tiffany. Her growth was amazing and I loved her friendship with Suzanne. Tiffany’s story was so heartbreaking and her ending had me in tears. When she pulled her hoodie up and walked out waving over her shoulder, I just sobbed. 😢
I thought the ICE stuff was so intense and upsetting even to watch so I can’t imagine going through it. I’m glad they tried to raise awareness of what’s going on. If anyone has any petitions or go fund me pages to share please do I would like to check them out
@Jessica Kent Congratulations on your new home!!! You & Reese have worked so hard for it, and it’s so awesome to see all the hard work paying off!!! 🏡😊💖
I loved Nicky, she was an amazing (and sad) character... but I loved how she described addiction as you said Jess and her character sort of put a human face on it for people that demonise it so much, no matter what addiction. Totally rode the rollercoster with her the whole series!
It's made all the more real by the fact that Natasha Lyonne, the actress who played Nicki, struggled with addiction and mental health issues for years. To the point where it ruined her career for years, she was basically considered the 90's version of Lindsay Lohan. Until she got clean and absolutely killed it on OitNB.
about that ceo who was killed by alex: he wasn't in the list of ceos, cause he was there just to kill alex, which means that their boss put him in that place, that's why nobody knew who he was. idk if that makes it better or not actually😂
They wouldn't even be able to get into the prison without being a registered correctional officer. Either way it's not possible. Second there are literally cameras everywhere so they wouldn't be able to do that..so yeah either way it's not possible. Lol
It's me Danny it was the day all the original guards walked out and the prison was expecting the new inmates so maybe that made it easier. I think the only guards that stayed that day were Caputo and Luschek till the max guards arrived.
My husband did time in a MD state prison w/ a pre-op MTF Trans woman. She had voice feminization, a tracheal shave, breast implants & had been on estrogen/progesterone for years (although the state cut them off while she was locked up), but since she was pre-op, they stuck her in gen pop in a MALE prison(!!!). Apparently she survived but I can't even imagine how horrible & terrifying that must have been, for her. What a terribly broken system. 🤦♀️
Is the thing about how they took an elderly inmate who had dementia and left her at a bus stop real? like compassionate release but abandoned to fend for themselves and almost certainly die?
No, it isn't. The inmate has to have an address to be released to. Be it a relative or a nursing home, etc. What they depicted with Jimmy's case, as memory serves, was based on a real incident, but that is NOT how CR works. The show's writers were right to highlight that incident, but did a poor job in conveying that it was an egregious exception to how things work. You don't just drop off an infirm, senile old woman at a bus depot and walk away.
I'm an addict and I'm really struggling at the moment. It's great to see you and your other half doing so well and it gives me hope I can get to the other side and live a normal life one day. Flaca was my fav character on the show. I stopped watching after the riot season because things just became too ridiculous. But the first couple seasons were really entertaining.
I would recommend watching the last season. It talks about immigration, false accusations (leading to doing life), drug OD, homelessness, struggles after prison, etc. I believe they tried making the last season as real as possible to wrap up the show.
Nikki is my favorite. I always loved her from the very beginning because she really reminded me of myself and what I went through with my addiction. She came from a good family and still ended up addicted to drugs and in prison, and even though I have never been to prison, I can really relate to her story arc, where she came from, and who she ended up becoming. I sort of have the same experience in the sense of coming from a good family and having everything I wanted as a child, but going in the opposite direction that my family wanted me to go in and winding up addicted to drugs. My family wasn't as dysfunctional as hers, but I always felt that they were trying to keep me in this box and live up to a certain image. I really love how they show that aspect of addiction because so many people have this certain idea that addiction only happens to certain people, but it takes you as you are and doesn't discriminate against anyone. Rich, middle class, poor...addiction doesn't care. I used to say that heroin was my boyfriend and the love of my life, so I totally understand what she meant when she said heroin was her girlfriend, too.
Nicky didn’t come from good family, her parents both were very narcissistic and self absorbed, you can see that in every past scene with her mom as well as her dad.
⭐️I can’t watch OITNB or Wentworth without thinking about your experiences & experiences of others who’ve lived through incarceration. Earlier episodes look so different now. 👏
Linda Tannock I know, it’s much scarier in some ways than OITNB, but some ways it’s soapier, but I found myself looking forward to new seasons more than Orange after a point.
What I appreciated about OITB is that they showed the transition from State owned Prisons to Corporate take over, I feel this is very real and important and at least begins to show people the cuts to any quality of life afforded to these women before.
You should read about corporate capitalism. I'm not a radical leftist, I'm more moderate, but the amount of power private entities have in the United States is worrisome.
Jessica! I just found your channel, I’m 20 years old and a nicotine addict, i understand that nicotine is NOT h/m, but I just wanted to let you know that I have been seriously struggling to quit nicotine for a couple of years now, and I just “couldn’t find the time” or “would do it tomorrow” or “this would be the last time” and since finding your channel and hearing your story and being able to relate on even a small level, you gave me strength to finally say no and drop nicotine, I went through withdraws and came out unscathed. my anxiety has diminished so much ever since I quit, I got a nasty cough and felt like I was always sick after smoking cigs/vapes all the time just to get a head rush that lasted 5 seconds, it truly is a huge mental hurdle that so many people never push them selves to jump over. I have to thank you because your voice and channel have brought me and I’m sure so many other people peace and strength! Love your family and videos! Keep pushing and growing you’re fricking amazing and ICONICCCC love you jes!❤️❤️❤️
@@MASTEROFEVIL it was actually pretty consistent with what is called a low security in terms of federal prison but i think lore wise they're supposed to be in whats called a camp which has a lot more freedom of movement than a state prison does.
I hated that they dumped him! I hated what Daya has become... She was so cute and sweet, a young girl that was making pictures and fell in love with Bennet. This couple was so pure. I cried.
i know OITNB is pretty different from the real deal but i absolutely adore the show. I loved season 5 the most i think, the riot was such a fascinating thing for me and the way all the inmates united and the way the main girls held hands at the end gave me chills.
I just want to point out if you struggled with addiction and you overcame it then I am so incredibly proud of you because that is so hard to do and taking a look at you I would never suspect that you've ever been in prison or on drugs so congratulations to you for turning that around cuz you are gorgeous! ❤

Only been in jail a few times for day or so. Military jail as well. Imho jail is like going to basic training, I couldn't image that if I was detoxing as an addict. Getting sober was hard enough. Honestly I think everyone should spend a week in jail setting. You can learn a lot bout society and yourself
I’m really glad you brought up the mental health piece. I mean it’s ultimately at the core the reason why anyone is incriminated. I have been to jail, but was able to leave without bond. And my entire situation revolved around abuse from a narcissistic woman trying to frame me for something I never did. So... I get it.
The buzzing through doors thing is so true. I'm teaching high school at a juvenile hall this summer, and even there everyone has to get buzzed through all the doors! There is no frolicking around, lol!

10:02 What??? They weren't sticking together to get tampons, they were sticking together because one of the guards killed a young inmate and the guard faced zero punishment. Tastee was angry that the guard was going to continue working there after killing her best friend, so she started the riot.
I really love your story. I was in AR and got stuck in a crappy life and surrounded myself with bad people. It took me getting out going home to FL to get my act together. Thank you for sharing your stories. ❤
I watched season 1 of this show as a 17 year old who had never been to any jail or prison and even I thought the free reign of the prison was insane, because my high school had more rules than that!
I’ve never watched the program, but a few of my friends are obsessed with it. Thank you so much for comparing the two...I think this needed to happen, wish it would air on a documentary! Thank you! Blessings and Peace ✝️
I love this show I watched all the seasons -the guard that got Daya pregnant was co Bennett - I personally don't think that Tiffany Doggett killed herself I think that she accidentally overdose because she used to be a drug addict but got clean
This is a very insightful nicely edited video. There’s no bias imo. It’s very interesting to see what’s real and what’s not. I had a feeling the inmates couldn’t just walk about to wherever they want as they please.
I love hearing the opinion of someone who’s experienced jail and/or prison. I’ve never experienced it (thank god) but it’s so easy to get sucked in by and believe these shows

Yes, correction officers have seen many pre-prison relationships fail. However, that's not the only motivation these COs have to say these things. Some people, especially those who seek positions of authority, are so insecure that their confidence relies on their ability to look down on, and denigrate someone "beneath them".
I went to county jail for 20 hours and when I got to the cell the other woman in there started talking to me and said they can come over the com to ask her to watch me cause they didn’t know if I was suicidal. She was the sweetest person. She was facing years for a few bad checks that someone wrote on her with her name. I checked into when I got out and she was being honest about it. To many innocent people in there.
Really love your videos, recently discovered your channel and find your perspective on your experience really interesting. I think you're a great advocate for reforming the prison system, particularly in regards to care, so that these institutions can meet the basic needs for the people it houses. I love how you really own up to your mistakes and actually find that particularly inspiring. I, like I'm sure a lot of other people have, have previously fallen into the trap of judging people far to quickly but am really glad I saw some of your other videos before your 'Why I Went To Prison' as I feel it would've made me more judgemental. You have such a great personality and are so honest and real about your experiences and you are a real inspiration in showing that people can successfully turn their lives around. Thank you for teaching me to understand a person's perspective before making a judgement about them x
Watching for a while now and I just noticed that in your intro there’s a guy getting arrested right behind you, was it planned or just a coincidence? 😂
So i saw the cop car with their lights on and that was the shot i wanted..but the second i got to the car and stood still for the shot..and guy was being arrested at that exact moment
Jessica Kent oh wow that’s crazy. I assumed it was edited with your picture on top of that picture. That worked out amazingly in your favorite. I love your videos. I’ve never done any type of drugs and honestly kind of judged people that did. Your videos have opened my eyes and made me realize that just because they do drugs and do some not so nice things that, doesn’t mean they aren’t amazing people that just made bad decisions. I’m now much more open and understanding of them. Thank you so much for that. Keep telling your story girl. You’re doing amazing things!
One thing I always thought was so insane on OITNB and Wentworth is that inmates would just wander in to COMPLETELY EMPTY bathrooms and take showers anytime they wanted, day or night, unattended and with no one else around. I've never been to jail but I always knew that had to be BS.
I understand most of this, but the walking around freely, going into offices, and and doors not being popped is because for the most part, they're in a minimum security facility, until they have to go to max. When they walk into offices, it's because they're more often than not called to said office. In max, they have to have the gates, as they are in oitnb, opened for them. They also have to be escorted from place to place typically. From what I've seen.
I’m finally early! I haven’t watched the video yet, but when I watched OITNB I knew it wasn’t really that accurate. I have to say, the show did kick off my curiosity about prison and jail in reality and I have educated myself through your videos and Christina’s. Love you!
Omg my boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE Wentworth! We've fallen a little behind on watching it, so right now we are only in the season where Frankie is back in prison, but that show is soooooo freaking good! We started watching it years ago and every time we come back to it we get sucked right back into it.
I've watched the show pretty recently (partly because your channel inspired me to revisit that), so I'm here to refresh your memory: 1. The sleezy officer's name was Mandez. Mandosa is the name of inmate Gloria Mandosa, one of my favorite characters in OITNB. 2. The dead officer whose body was chopped and buried in the yard wasn't actually an officer - he was a private killer hired to kill Alex, which partly explains why it didn't lead to the entire facility going on lock down. 3. Bennett was the name of the officer who got Diaz pregnant 4. Is there a chance the characters being able to move freely within the facility is partly due to it being a minimum security facility? (I remember you saying you've only experienced medium and maximum security). Great video, thanks! Really enjoyed that

Yes I agree... That was my interpretation to!! In my country you have 'open' prisons who are like that kind of prison model.
LOVED this video. I watched OITNB religiously until the season where the inmates took over the prison -- it got way too fake and I was over it.
1000% agree!! It really did turn to shit hey?
@@caseysmith8422 yup, it really did!
YES! That's when I had to stop as well! They dragged it out WAY too long!
I would watch the last season honestly, I hated that whole thing too but it got really emotional))-: I was happy with the way it ended
Same. They lost me after the take over too. I loved seasons 1 and 2, then it went down hill haha
Dude you're telling me there's someone like ruby rose in every prison? 😭😭girl don't make me want to go to prison
FR LMFAO
FR LMAO
looool
Ruby Rose almost turned me straight. She looks like a cute boy!
I ended up really attached to Tiffany.
Her growth was amazing and I loved her friendship with Suzanne.
Tiffany’s story was so heartbreaking and her ending had me in tears.
When she pulled her hoodie up and walked out waving over her shoulder, I just sobbed. 😢
tasty is literally the best character. she’s so strong, smart and willful. i love her
I thought the ICE stuff was so intense and upsetting even to watch so I can’t imagine going through it. I’m glad they tried to raise awareness of what’s going on. If anyone has any petitions or go fund me pages to share please do I would like to check them out
I just realized, this is gonna be the last video recorded in this house
Yup! It was prerecorded last week 🙂
@Jessica Kent Congratulations on your new home!!! You & Reese have worked so hard for it, and it’s so awesome to see all the hard work paying off!!! 🏡😊💖

@@unnamedchannel1237 No..that was my actual bedroom lol
Jessica Kent ohhhhh. You must have O.C.D , it was always perfect.
there’s a reason for that
You wanna know how I knew OITNB was fake? Cause I’d watch it and be like “oh I could handle that!”
No. I can’t 😂
Is the thing about how they took an elderly inmate who had dementia and left her at a bus stop real? like compassionate release but abandoned to fend for themselves and almost certainly die?
Breeshey W yes unfortunately
What character is this again
Breeshey W by that pint uncompassionate release.
I love your videos Jessica. Congrats on your new home and i hope you and your family are really happy there xx

Flaca was my fav character on the show.
I stopped watching after the riot season because things just became too ridiculous. But the first couple seasons were really entertaining.
Heather Holt same haha
Heather Holt sammmmeeee! Was so disappointed when it got so ridiculous!
Me too. Super stoked for the first 2 shows. When they started interjecting the SJW "Orange Man Bad" narrative, I stopped watching.
Saaaame. The last episode I saw was those cops accidentally shooting the CO.
I know, I think about Jess and Christina. I adore both of them!!
Wentworth is great! It's a really gritty drama.
Hope Jess watches it!
Linda Tannock I know, it’s much scarier in some ways than OITNB, but some ways it’s soapier, but I found myself looking forward to new seasons more than Orange after a point.
@@kaylamesser5733 q1qrblnt
Yo, Sophia's storyline had me in tears while watching it.
My favorite part of oitnb is the first season when piper is beginning to realize she isn’t in a college dorm, she’s in prison.

The series is based on Piper Kermans Memoir on her stay in a minimum security prison.
It was a federal prison, they're anything but minimum security
@@MASTEROFEVIL it was actually pretty consistent with what is called a low security in terms of federal prison but i think lore wise they're supposed to be in whats called a camp which has a lot more freedom of movement than a state prison does.
The show was a lot different than her book. I bought it after watching the show
I was done with oitnb when they killed poussey... broke my heart and then the show got more and more ridiculous

I remember going to LA County Jail to do prison ministry. Lots of doors closing behind you....
i know OITNB is pretty different from the real deal but i absolutely adore the show.
Yesss!!!! I’m so happy you’re somebody who listens to suggestions and your comments ❤️❤️
No pressure but if you ever have the time could you watch/compare/review 60 days in? It’s one of my all time fav “reality prison” shows and I’d love to know your take on it! ❤️❤️
Yessss I LOVE that show it's so interesting
Tiffanys death was foreshadowed earlier in the show when she said.. OD's are when you get clean then forget you don't have the tolerance you once had.
They probably didn't do the whole many doors thing just cause it would take way too long for the characters to go from one place to another.
Side note, your highlight is 🙌🏻
Yesss I've been desperate for you to do this! Also I'm so interested to see your view on the ' scared straight' series. Love from London jess! Your an inspiration xxx
Yesss same!!! Scared straight please Jess!!
And I'm down the road from London, hiii Sally 👋♥️
I just feel compelled to tell you, you're a wonderful soul. Such a free spirit.
Only been in jail a few times for day or so. Military jail as well. Imho jail is like going to basic training, I couldn't image that if I was detoxing as an addict. Getting sober was hard enough. Honestly I think everyone should spend a week in jail setting. You can learn a lot bout society and yourself
It’s really a great show. I like how you are acknowledging it’s just a show and not getting offended by the lack of reality it portrays.
I’m really glad you brought up the mental health piece. I mean it’s ultimately at the core the reason why anyone is incriminated. I have been to jail, but was able to leave without bond. And my entire situation revolved around abuse from a narcissistic woman trying to frame me for something I never did. So... I get it.
I just got a notification on my phone from Arkansas channel 7 news about your success. Congrats girl!
The buzzing through doors thing is so true. I'm teaching high school at a juvenile hall this summer, and even there everyone has to get buzzed through all the doors! There is no frolicking around, lol!
It's interesting watching other people who have had similar lives on TH-cam. It makes me feel less shitty about myself, like I am not alone.
I was in a psych unit of a hospital for attempting suicide and prison sounds so much like it.
Ok now im scared to go to Psych
You’re makeup is freaking flawless Jess 😻
Your story is genuinely inspiring. I am so happy you were able to get out and be a mother to your child.
you should do a Prison Break comparaison, this show is so good! The last episode of season 4 happens in a women prison and I would love to hear your opinion :)
I loved prison break
Girl you are about to blow up! Been following you for a long time, and I cant wait to see that 1 mill subscriber number under your videos. You are so amazing and down to earth, and you really dont understand how many addicts you help. Maybe you do. But either way, you are an amazing Queen!!!! You and Christina both!!! Love you so much!!
I imagine that there is some differences to between federal and state time. Plus security levels would also affect the validity of the show
Just wanted to tell you I'm so proud of you. You have worked hard and deserve all the good that's to come. You have overcome so many struggles and should be so proud. May you have many happy memories in you're new home. You are a inspiration to many.
I love this show I watched all the seasons
-the guard that got Daya pregnant was co Bennett
- I personally don't think that Tiffany Doggett killed herself I think that she accidentally overdose because she used to be a drug addict but got clean
I think she did it on purpose cause of the GED situation etc
I loved this era!

I’m proud of how far you’ve come. Your content is excellent and I make sure to watch all of your ads to show my support. Keep up the great work! 👍
Girl, your highlight is poppin’! Lol it looks so good.
Flora I always think the same thing lol
I noticed it from the beginning and was like WOAH what are the chances of that perfect timing? #FREETHATGUY
So i saw the cop car with their lights on and that was the shot i wanted..but the second i got to the car and stood still for the shot..and guy was being arrested at that exact moment
Jessica Kent well let me tell you that this worked really well! Hah
Love you!
I’d LOVE to hear what you think about the show Wentworth! This was so interesting to watch 🥰
Omg my boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE Wentworth! We've fallen a little behind on watching it, so right now we are only in the season where Frankie is back in prison, but that show is soooooo freaking good! This is truly excellent. Thank you, Jessica.
I've watched the show pretty recently (partly because your channel inspired me to revisit that), so I'm here to refresh your memory:
3. Bennett was the name of the officer who got Diaz pregnant
4. Is there a chance the characters being able to move freely within the facility is partly due to it being a minimum security facility? (I remember you saying you've only experienced medium and maximum security).
Great video, thanks! Really enjoyed that
