    I’m obsessed with learning how to make my Bermuda lawn look good. New home and last summer I had straw. I put down humichar, 101010 and pe. I got the fertilizer ready. Thank u for all the information you post

    Thanks for all your information. I subscribed last year. I was late getting started but I started working on my lawn by following your suggestions. By the end of the growing season it really looked better than ever. Thanks again

    I'm getting excited for this season. So far I have Aerated and over seeded my yard. Hoping to get more growth before I start tackling the weeds since I didn't get out early enough and pre treat it

    Aaah billy goat.. great machine.. used more and more over here in the Uk. Can't fault them for commercial use, and more and more on domestic lawns. Great tips as usual!

    Thanks for this. I got exhausted trying to weed and feed my lawn so I pay a company to come out every month. I'm just too busy. However, I asked them about my moss problem and they won't treat it. They said my soil is too compact and holds moisture so they recommend aerating it. I never heard of that before.

    What’re the pros and cons of the thin spikes compared to the thick ones and the cores? I’ve always used plugs

    Interesting to hear your position on aerating and breaking pre-emergent barrier. I agree, I think its not that big a deal either.

    Hey doc thanks for the informative videos. What do you think of soil conditioner/liquid aeration products? In conjunction with physical aeration, will that help loosen compact clay soil?

  • @0xVeniVidiVici
    @0xVeniVidiVici 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Do you have to worry about sprinkler heads when aerating? I always worry that it will damage them.

  • @chrisunruh6485
    @chrisunruh6485 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I would argue that picking up the cores should be based on your soil type. If you have clay soil, 100% pick them up.

    Hey Doc. I have tall fescue and trying to learn from you but this is contradictory to what you have on your cool season lawn calendar, which has the hot summer months marked for aeration, June through September. Wouldn’t growing season and aeration be in spring and fall for cool season lawn like Fescue? Cheers

    This is off subject but I thought this was the fastest way to ask. My lawn had a drip system that I converted to above ground sprinklers. That left my celebration Bermuda lawn pretty beat up. Is it a good idea to do an over seed to rejuvenate my lawn back ?

    I can only aerate to about 1" deep (entire lawn is underlaid with gopher wire and I don't want the aeration tines to break/cut the wire), is it worth it?

    Doc i know you use a sweeper to pick up cores can you also go with a pull behind sweeper on the JD I noticed this on other core aeration you have done you pick up one row at a time ( yes or No )?

    I have newly planted but actively growing Bermuda grass. I haven’t mowed it yet. It germinated about a month ago. I have compact hard dirt. Should I aerate yet? I’m worried it’s gonna hurt the new grass

    What are your thoughts on the pull behind core aerator. The kind that requires large bricks or other weight

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most don't do a good job of pulling deep cores.

  • @kenfldude
    @kenfldude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I leave my cores and tell my customers to stay off for three weeks. The cores in turn will act as plugs and in most cases root right in. Also, aerated lawns need to be watered a couple times a week if no rain.

    Help!! Doc my McLane GR chain is so tight I could barely get it off (tried all the tips in your McLane backlap video but mine had absolutely no slack point despite spinning the blades). I had to bend the link to get it back on. What can I do?

      LOL.... sorry... been there. Loosen ALL the bolts that hold the reel assembly. Then push back on the reel. It will give you that extra 1/8" you need.

    Had my lawn aerated a few years ago by someone who had the aerator but I don't have a trailer to carry a rented machine. Plus it's only me now.
    I do dethatch my lawn yearly with a low-cost dethatcher, but is there even such a thing as a lower (than $3K) cost home aerator that does a half-decent annual job that I can keep at home?
    Thanks ...

      @ Wold traveler yes there is if you have a riding lawn mower there's a tow behind you can find at your local big box store for 200 does an excellent job

      @alfrede.newman1838 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bloodbatteries4797 even though I have a little less than a half-acre of actual lawn around the house, I don't use a riding lawnmower. I actually 'enjoy the mow' by hand ... but a great suggestion, the neighbor's got a riding mower and I 'think' he also needs to do some aeration ... :-)

    Why can't you aerate when the grass is dormant?

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can spike aerate but coring CUTS the grass structure

    • @coltonjones8982
      @coltonjones8982 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowTowithDoc But doesn't it cut the structure when it's growing also? I would just think as long as you don't have a freeze after core aeration you would be fine but would have a lot of holes in the ground until it filled in?

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but it's not trying to START growing. It's active and ready to spread.
