4:55 this crushed me. Alyssa was such a vibe and despite her Tom boyish nature, her love for her brother also made her accept her duty in childbirth and you can tell how much she loved to give Baelon children as a testament to their love. If only ...... 😢
I was thinking, “ya know, the only thing Jaehaerys’s reign is missing is a good war.” The 4th Dornish war. “Ah, just what I’ve been waiting for.” Guess someone shoulda told the Dornish shooting bolts at sea ain’t a good idea
@@WorldOfWesteros tbf rhaegal was a riderless pretty much toddler dragon while Caraxes, Vermithor, and Vhagar were all far more experienced and had riders that had ridden then since childhood.
@@bensonfang1868 The real joke of the matter is that no matter how big the ballista or scorpion and no matter how powerful it can't penetrate the scales of even a young 8ish year old dragon like Rhaegal. 2ish Year old drogon in the books in Meereen was already shrugging off arrows and spears with only mild injury, as a sense with how dragons grow their scales grow tougher every year along with their size. @@bensonfang1868 Just cause he was riderless, doesn't mean that makes Rhaegal weaker (Jon was his rider technically but..) A 10 year war veteran isn't somehow more bulletproof than the newer recruit just joined the army. So whether Rhaegal had less experience or not, his scales are still, well, the same. That is a really interesting idea as a way to show audiences some past events. They could use the dragons, or maybe the physic link the rider has with a dragon as as a way of doing flashback in as simular way Bran did in the main show with the weirwoods.
50-83 AC were the best years of the Targaryens, the death of Princess Alyssa was the the beginning of their long decline after that i think. The king had enough pretext to invade Dorne I wonder why he never tried.
I think Jaehaerys was ultra focused on fixing the kingdoms he did have, as to avoid another Maegor situation, i think that Maegor left him with a lot of issues with trying to fix everything. But i still think it is strange given the Dornish aggression he made no real attempt. I think around Alyssa's death you do start to see some of the cracks that would lead to there downfall. Jaehaerys was a good king and did make Westeros a better place to live for all. But the situation the succession was left in on his death was the killer problem, his attituded to his children ( and the amount of them) plus Alyssanne's obsessive match making created the perfect storm that caused the Dance, and thus there downfall. But i do agree you can look at Alyssa's death as one of the points it all began to crack
@@WorldOfWesteros Yeah tbh though viserys I should have invaded Westeros in the middle of his reign. He could make Daemon lead the attack and then have Otto hightower be lord protecter of Dorne to keep him occupied.
I honestly think that Jaehaerys wasn't the type of man to have a taste for war. Sure, he made himself able, ready, and willing to fight if he had to, but he was a man of peace, like his father. The foolish Dornish prince who started the war died in it, why take it any further than that?
Name fits. The dornish managed to end the war with Aegon on their own terms, precisely because they didn't serve themselves up on a silver platter for dragons to barbecue them. I guess Morion never heard of the Jamboree called "field of fire".
@@Ruosteinenknight In my opinion, the Dornish plot is one of George's weaker instances of writing. But somehow, not only did they survive the Dragon's Wrath, they survived the 4th Dornish War (where they lost all their fighting men & women) and Daeron's conquest. Like what was stopping Jaehaerys and his sons from flying to Sunspear after that roasting and getting Mara Martell to bend the knee? Or Daeron I from appointing a powerful dornish but anti-Martell warden like the Yronwoods instead of a sworn enemy of the Dornish (the Tyrells) thereby avoiding an uprising? George needed Dorne to be independent but didn't know how to circumvent the flying nukes and the 6 kingdoms vs 1 scenarios in a plausible way.
As to why Jaeherys didn't sieze on the moment and invade Dorne after wiping out most of their fighting force, the answer seems simple. Just look what happened when King Daeron conquered Dorne. It was always the same thing. Even if they forced the nobles into submission, the common people would vanish, and start a brutal campaign of guerilla warfare.
If the Targaryens really wanted to wipe Dorne out of the map of Westeros with Dragonflame, they could do it, but their intention was to conquer it. The Valyrians gave the Rhoynar a run for their money. The Targaryens weren't as draconic as their Valyrian ancestors...

One can only imagine what they would have been like as king and queen.

I find the shooting bolts at see thing so ironic when you consider season 8.

As peace treaties in Westeros go, it lasted a good while. That's if you assume the Dornish were being truthful about not backing the Vulture Kings.
