Installing Key Ignition to ZERO and Inokim E-Scooters

- This video tutorial shows you how to install the key ignition / key lock for the ZERO or Inokim electric scooter. This applies to ZERO 8, 9, 10 and Inokim Quick and Light models.
You will require a wire stripper, thin strips of heat shrink to secure the thin wires and one thick strip of heat shrink.

Please read this before trying to do it by yourself !
1. DISCONNECT the battery before starting to cut, disconnecting, or solder cables, this is the first and most important thing to remember !!!
2. For your safety, I advise you to NOT do this inside your home/apartment because of the risk of fire (lithium batteries pack a serious amount of energy and in case it exploded you won't be able to stop it by yourself, in case it begins just run and hope that the insurance will cover that...
and I also want to share my thoughts and experience with installing a key ignition, all other videos that I found about it were talking about replacing the key ignition or going for the wiring at the bottom where the controller and battery are located, In my opining this is not safe to do so and I liked more this method where you do the wiring+soldering on the top where is the display is located. it feels much safer and easier to do because the scooter brands and built might be slightly different and in my case the was a special grouping wiring that includes the connectors of the brakes input, lights and horn buttons, and the display so when you are checking the down part of the scooter it might be hard to recognize which wires are relevant only for the display so by doing it at the top is much easier and safe (yes it won't look very aesthetic because you will probably need to tape it with electric type or heat shrink tube)

So you just twisted the wires... No soldering? Should've soldered.. makes for a better connection
yes we do solder. Just for the purposes of this video we did not.
My zero 9 needs to be cut and connected to the white wire. Then connect the black wire with the black of the LCD. It's worked.

Just make sure you close the scootter or power off it. Its fine
I connected it to the red line, but the key turns off, but the monitor stays on. Please tell me how to deal with it.
so i have this but without key lock. i rigged it up seemlingly like you did but all i get is it stay at 47 volts never moves. even with just a black and red wire would i connect the red to the green of lcd?
at the moment its black to black red to red spliced into exsisting lcd wire
My question to you please im trying install a video back and front camera video recorder which wire on the throttle small display monitor is the acc wire to cut the camera off and on with the display monitor please 🙏

I installed the voltmeter with a key, I did the steps that you say in the video, the one I installed is a Zero 8 electric skateboard, but when installing it the voltmeter flashes and does not indicate the volts, apart from the board of the skateboard indicates error e10, I appreciate your help to solve this problem
This won’t work on zero 8 use white wire instead of red

do I need to connect all the black wires together? (all three conttected to each other)
as i saw the video, i think they do connect all the 3 black wires but still i need confirmation from them. also, what happen to the cutted red wires from the scooter (not from the lcd), as they have connected to the key ignition wires.

No it’s better to disconnect the battery and drain out any remaining charge
Any key operated device with wires is installing a mechanism to connect wires together. Anybody wishing to hack the system just has to snip the cable and touch bare wire cores together to bypass the "security"
You can hack almost any lock, but better than no security at all.

You can only cut the red and black wire

Hello, since you are promoting this, I have the same one. It's new. It works, but when I install it, it walks a few meters and disconnects the electricity from it. I can't turn it on again unless I put it on the charger for a second

I would never install something like this without soldering the wires first.
But why cut it when you can open up the display and solder directly to the pcb!
These type of lcd displays usually have an extra unused entry place for such a wire.
I would NOT recommend going with this solution

Will it work with Inokim OX model ?
Is it possible to connect the wires together to keep the scooter ON or does the lock ignitiom provides something else.
The whole point of this is to make a safe switch with a key so no one can just grab your ebike or escooter and ride away with it by just turning it on.
if you wish to disable only the motor but keep the display and lights on, then you will need to look for other solutions or talk with someone with the relevant knowledge.

Great video, may I ask for your help? I have a zero8 with the qs-s4 lcd display. I had a crash and the wires that goes into the lcd had been pulled out. I dont have a diagram how to solder them back inside ,was wondering if you could take a picture of the inside of a qs-s4 lcd for me? Thanks alot

Its possible but why would u do it the battery alone is 420€ and the motor 200€ just buy the scooter and sell your old one

I installed it on my Apollo City and the ignition does not work. The scooter turns on bu the keyed ignition has no effect. When turned off I get E10 error but the scooter sill functions. @falcon Pev any thoughts?

I wish they would make these with proper connectors that fork so you could connect them straight from the controller to LCD connector inside the deck, instead of having to cut and solder wires, would make it much more consumer friendly.

I followed your instructions but i didn't cut off the connector but i did the work after it. And it didn't work. The scooter work normally but the key not. What can be the problem?

Hi Chazas! In the case of Kaabo Mantis Dual (2020) the ground is black and you have to use the white cable, not the red.
Only with the white and the black cable which comes from the controller works for me.
On the videos I've watched, zeroes come with an ignition key as standard?
Zero 10X and 11 I think. My Zero 10 did not.

Everyone wants to talk to me about it which can be annoying but it's curiosity I guess, hopefully I time tgeir will be hundreds of them on the roads.

Qogicx hi it doesn’t affect the display of the lcd at all. Your lcd will still read the main battery voltage

Can the key be removed while in the on position? I have my keys attached to my belt and do not want to detach them each time.
do not work with my 0-8 i can always start it witout key, voltmetere show 00.0 and she tell me E10
now it's work, it was not red wire, but white for me. i've cut 1 by 1 wire to look who have juice! and that's all
@Lenanea thank you. It was the same on my Zero 9. Voltmeter dimly showing 0.00 and pulsing. I was still able to turn on the scooter with the key in the off position and it showed E10. After reading your post, I checked the white wire with a multimeter and it had 54 volts. Once I hooked up to the white wire, all working correctly.

don't work unless my ignition keys broke it was from ebay…..not sure if its my switch but green and red with the key to the on works any other wire example red and black i get nothing with a continutity test on a multi meter

Keys are different. Yes it will work for kugoo too but your need to know how to solder
This is a completely bodged job. Should have taken the time to do this properly. You only needed to cut the RED and the Black , why cut all of them when you had to reconnect them??
