She's a Lyric Spinto-Soprano; able to sing soft and lyrical like a true Lyric Soprano, but too dark to be a true Lyric, whilst not quite heavy enough to be a Dramatic Soprano. With metallic top notes that would slice through a 50pc. Orchestra (squillo). She has the best of both Worlds.
That is a very extensive video, I wish there were more videos focusing on her classical concerts like the recent Noche Escandinava or the Ave Maria tour. Thank you so much for taking the time, this is probably the most complete video of her register out there. I am always amazed how a dark voice was trained to go as high as a damn G6! Lately, I am much more interested in her lower range. On which she is more focused on these days, her Sibelius and House of Wax live, let that transpire quite a bit. Cheers!

Great ! Tarja's voice is absolutely unbelievable! Unbeatable! And also should notice that Tuomas is the most talented music composer among many ones who collaborated with Queen Tarja.
wonderful job!! I would have liked you to add songs from the last album, I think "serene" has a very high note. could you tell me what it is? (Live is more noticeable than in the studio). Thanks a lot!!! I congratulate you!
Well. How can spinto soprano have thin high notes in 20 years. I love her color of a voice and what she did for a history of heavy music. But if you talk about range - how can you skip quality of these notes.
I think you're confusing controlling vocal weight with thinness. The very idea of Spinto Soprano is to sing mainly light and lyrical, but be able to "push" for dramatic effect (without hurting yourself) when the music calls for it. Her voice from 2004~ (lines up when she completed her training at Karlsruhe) onward is Lirico Spinto. Her voice prior is Lyric Soprano (Oceanborn, Century Child, Wishmaster, From Wishes to Eternity; which is 80% of this video). Her high notes after "Once" are resonant, metallic, bright, ringing. Her mid and low registers were always dark for a Soprano, almost sounding Mezzo-Soprano-ish (though she's clearly not), but she gained about 25% more vocal weight. Spinto Soprano lines up. "But if you talk about range - how can you skip quality of these notes." You think Floor fans play by the same rules when she screams the top note in Romanticide? 🙄 Lol, no they don't.
I see only wide sound(like Astrid Varnay after 1951) and wobble on top. I watched now her 2016 O mio Babino Caro. Spinto Soprano usually has big high notes with squillo. And it s easy to find this wobble even in 2004 - 2005 recordings with Nightwish. It is not bright and reasonant - it is without head voice and proper vibrato.
@@XlikeZero She expanded her range and dynamics quite a bit solo. She was never able to sing Passion and the Opera or Stargazers live properly during Nightwish times, but she did solo, surpassing by tenfold her album recording. My favourite performance of her career is still From Wishes to Eternity though, she has that vocal weight, and dramatic voice but not the static and stiff approach she had during Oceanborn. She is absolutely perfect there. Almost a dramatic soprano. End of an Era, besides being sick, she is also very emotional and also leaning more to a contemporary sound, a more forward placement. Sounding lighter and just like during the recording of Once, trying to "remove the weight from her voice to sound more approachable" to the mainstream ears, that label was clearly aspiring to reach. Solo, she has the best vocal work of her career, which is Ave Maria En Plein Air. She has a balance between chest and head and when she is committed, she does absolutely brilliant performances. Check Noche Escandinava in 2019 or the Ave Maria tour concert in Mainz, Germany for good examples of this. After reading her book, it is clear to me, what I always thought was her prerogative, she does not like how she sounds in the first albums of Nightwish. She feels like she did not have good technique. She was taught in Finland a more old school way of placing her voice, with more core and more chest, fuller and heavier. When she went to Germany, they undid all that, and she started singing in the mask and with a more forward positioning. That is where this apparent thin and wobbly sound starts coming. It is a true shame that she was trained by someone with this approach, they basically taught her to contain her voice to sound more lyrical. It happens to many modern sopranos, Elina or Netrebko are good examples. Tarja found a good balance lately, she is rediscovering her chest voice and also letting her head voice free without "cutting it in two" to sound lighter and more lyric. I do agree that it is a hit or miss these days because she has gained these vices that are ingrained already. Even Callas had them, just hard to be always on point when you do so much different work and tour a lot. I would be lying if I said I did not miss her voice pre Karlsruhe.
I think it's more of a touring thing, in some performances she's pitchier, in others she's in really good shape (Wacken 2016 pitchy on the arena, but very well on the church). Her voice actually shows an evolution, compare the bridge of The Siren with NW and after it, she gained more weight vocally speaking, her chest voice is very dark and she couldn't use it properly in NW given she was still learning. She still doesn't have total control of her chest voice, but she does sound better now than she did back then despite being more inconsistent (due to the chest voice, back then she used head voice and mixed voice, which are both areas she has till this day more control).
She is actually almost a dramatic soprano she was a Lyric soprano in her Prime . Now her vocals are Very heavy. She can belt Out a d6 in Mix voice .her voice is incridibly heavy when she matured
@@feridedogan7653 lol.. incredibly heavy? You can't be serious.... Her voice is light. Listen to her singing Tarja's songs and you notice a humongous difference. If Tarja, that has a darker and heavier voice is only a spinto, how could Floor with her lighter and brighter timbre be a dramatic? Do you even know what a dramatic soprano is? Check Dimitrova or Nilsson and then compare to Floor. And no, she did not belt a D6. That was her head voice and that's how high she can go with full support.
