A 10 minute extract of a 90-minute video of former Nightwish front-woman Tarja Turunen's press conference - held in Helsinki, Finland on November 11 2006 - to discuss her split from the group and her future plans.

But surely the band deserved to be treated as secondary guests and told she can "leave Nightwish without previous warning", what a hypocrite. The fact is: she is replaceable, the composer isn't. There are many good generic opera singers out there. Tuomas didn't choose to keep with the opera style out of respect for her.

Tuomas said in a interview that "the reason they didn't get other operatic trained singer was because no one in the planet could compare to Tarja even if the singer was good". He literally said that word by word. Also, Tuomas composed more albuns during the 9 years with Tarja (where he said he composed them specially for her voice) than in almost 20 yrs without her, with all their best albuns still being considered the ones prior to her leaving and the one immediately after she left (full of references to her). Not to mention the ONE thing that set them apart in their golden era was much more Tarja's voice than Tuomas songs if we're being honest here.
@@matheo9150 Imho it was both: His incredible compositions and her magical voice. After she left idk what happened but his compositions for me lost their magic too. Almost as if she was the reason for him composing like this (as you said).
I think picking sides here is not appropriate as this was their own karma being resolved.

yeah I kinda stopped listening to Nightwish when Tarja left, I listened one more album after that and it wasnt the same anymore and I have never listened to their new albums anymore , for me, Tarja basically made this band, I know who Floor is btw as well, I have listened her in ReVamp and I am sure that she is WAYYY better than Anette but I just prefer Tarja and also I dont want to pay tickets to this band concerts anymore after how they kicked out Tarja..one of the founders of the band and they didnt even tell her before the "End of the era" was finished , they did her sooo dirty.. poor thing gave everything on that stage and next day she sees letter like this...for everyone to see ..ofcourse she cried

Floor is a great vocalist and we shouldn’t talk about her ability. It’s just Tuomas has been drifting away in his fantasy dreams. The music taste since Floor joined the band has gotten weird. Nightwish’s power and darkness have gradually disappeared, and the 2 recent albums with Floor is a shadow of its glory. There was no charisma and power anymore, but they sound like a fantasy and orchestral sort of songs, probably like Two Steps From Hells.
I don’t dislike any of the 3 front women, but it’s Tuomas himself is sleeping with his Peter Pan dreams. Imaginaerum was a great album, Tuomas probably forgot how brilliant it was.

I think that Live performances were soo damn weak for the band like Nightwish, I dont know what Anette was going trough or what happened but her vocals are unstable and she doesnt have big enough vocal range ...which was very important cause Tuomas wrote songs to a classical singer...do you know that they should have been an acoustic band but when they heard Tarjas singing they started to do metal...so thanks to Tarja Nightwish is what it is today also she was one of the founders of the band...Anette should have seen whats coming...if they kick out a woman who basically made them famous cause opera with heavy metal was very rare at that time... we all were amused I remember...going to their concerts in Finland...never disappointed in her fairytale like vocals...saw them 2 years ago in Raskasta Joulua in Finland and they hugged with Marco and they were dueting together...it was soo beautiful to watch, all of us original Nightwish bands had tears in our eyes...but yeah Anette is only leading lady that I think that doesnt belong in Nightwish cause she just doesnt have the vocal range that big for many songs that are written for Tarja ...yrah I give her that she tried at least but she should have seen that coming...Nightwish band mates always kick out their singers for PERSONAL reasons ..crazy indeed
@@MinhNguyen-ff6xf I agree. Early Nightwish had a dark mystery and fantasy element to it and Tarja's operatic vocals brought it all together beautifully. With Anette, he explored a more folky vibe, but still kept the dark fantasy element. Now with Floor, it seems to have turned from all that was into this whole nature loving humdrum almost hippie crap. Don't get me wrong, I think Floor is an amazing singer, I simply do not like the new Nightwish sound
I was ten years old when tarja got kicked out from Nightwish. I was in their last concert in Hartwall Areena. It was the one of the best days in my life. Next day after concert I heard from news what had happened. I started to cry. My brother laughed for me but I didn't care. It was so hard to me when Tarja wasn't a part of NW anymore. I was so sad about for months. (i don't mean depressed, just sad). I still miss those times and especially the concert. It was incredible. - Old NW fan

I was 12, but never saw them live, except only Tarja later. It was my biggest regret for a long time. I still remember reading the small headline and a short text about it in the local teen entertainment magazine I read at the time. It said "Tarja kicked out!". I was devastated like someone died and grieved it like nothing else before. I too didn't talk with anyone about it, as my friends didn't like NW and thought Tarja's singing is annoying...

I had similar experience. I was on Deep Purple's last gig in Helsinki 1993, at front row. It was great gig to my 18 yo standards, but i noticed how Ritchie didn't want to interact with others in the band, he just did his part. Nobody knew it was the end for Mark 2, Ritchie's last one with DP. Oh the memories. :)

The real reason I cant watch the last show with her.
My wife managed a band for 25 years. What's amazing is not that a band stays together for decades, but that it manages to stay together for months.

As I got older, this made me angrier - to reread the letter, watch this video, reflect on Anette, and consider how she was treated as well. Nightwish seems to have cast aside both ladies accusing them of being divas. They were belittled and reduced to shallow emotions - not equal partners who deserved to be listened to. Anette had every reason to fear Floor filling in for her for 9 months. It was clear what the response would have been. Tarja had every reason to travel separately with Marcello as it seems there was a highly charged emotional current between Tuomas and him. We don't need to get into the highly speculated reasons why. Tarja wasn't wrong about the US shows at the time. Tickets cost $20 back then in much smaller venues without great north American management. I'm sure they lost money doing US shows back in 2004. She wanted to do more classical music - good for her. The direction of nightwish was defined by tuomas. She let him do what he wanted and expressed her desire for another outlet which he has done now with several projects on his own. Everything he threw in that letter was opportunistic and frankly he contradicted himself so many times it feels dirty. Nightwish did end with Tarja though I love it all. It doesn't have the same magic or emotion it once did. Now it's just full of tricks and suits.
Now, it is clear. They repeat the same tactic to Annette? The band is majestic but no one is perfect. Hope they change for the better. And now marco?

I feel the worst For Anette actually .She was pregnant in the hospital ,when they kicked her out . Tarja is a strong woman who had her Manager and husband who supported her after this Bad time.but Anette had nobody who holds her back in the Band. I also saw Few Interviews From Anette back then when she got kicked,she kinda had Depressions too . Actually floor was just there For Touring with the Band .but then they decide to kick Anette completly out wich is not fair. The Albums and some Singles with Anette were massiv hits.anette and tarja really Make nightwish sugcessful . Floor is For sure the best Singer of all Them but she dosent bring her own music or Stil . She still Covers almost only nightwish Songs. I never heared 1 single with floor actually released

What do you guys mean? Her main point was that internal band communication in Nightwish was very bad over several years and it didn't feel at all like friend or family. Since things didn't get better she talked with them that she wanted to leave in the future.

I read they open later, and the comments by these Nightwish fanboys is pure garbage.
It mainly came down to money, royalties and Tarja's husband effectively holding the band hostage. She herself wasn't necessarily who Nightwish had the problem with as much as her husband/manager but he fueled her ego and she shot herself in the foot for it as she had already stated she was going to leave. That being said, it was really unprofessional how they went about this and even worse what they did to Anette.
I feel really bad for Tarja, poor thing was reduced to tears. :(
And the guys did pretty much the same thing to Anette. After years of recording and performing together, they decided to kick her out behind her back and didn't even have the decency to visit her in a hospital to let her know in person. That's just cowardly and disrespectful.
I wish all the best to Floor cause she's an amazing singer. I hope this doesn't happen to her as well.

I remember watching this live back in the day and how heartbroken I was. The original Nightwish w/ Tarja was a special kind of magic that can't be replaced and helped paved the road for many other great bands.
i remember her crying too..it mad me feel so sad for her..she brought and continues to bring so much pleasure to untold amounts of people and even animals..my dog loved her
...I think the guys in the band came to the point where they felt like they were members of "The Tarja Turunen band", but she was the" Front Woman", the Voice and the most visible member of the band for God sakes! Were the other members of the band so naive that they didn't expect her to become the very signature of the band? It seems like jealousy has broken more hearts and broken up more bands than I care to count!

People made up romance stories and such to justify they kicking her out but it all comes down to money and jealousy and even if she was their trademark, it was their decision and they beneficiated a lot from it even making such a drama about her departure made them sell more records than ever before. For me, Tarja was still the best and if people will say 'shut up and move on', I think it is normal for people who got to know Nightwish with Tarja, still think she's a little better than the current singer. I liked the previous singer and Floor now, but every 3 of them are different. It always hurts a bit when a band you like changes singers

I love Tarja aswell, but honestly, listen to her then! She released albums for crying out loud. But no, it's the COMBINATION of Tuomas and Tarja that happened, it was like magic when his composing and her voice melded together as one. When Tuomas said he can no longer write songs for her then something's got to have gone wrong. But so many act if she's dead, she is not, she is releasing music and the reason not many listen to it is because it is not written by Tuomas Holopainen, and for that reason I would believe Tuomas IS Nightwish. He is the only one that can be, if he dissappears, there is no Nightwish anymore. Same can't be said for the others, no matter how much I love them.
Although I agree with you that the Spirit of Nightwish lies within Tuomas, but Tarja was the gateway through which that Spirit could communicate with us. That's through songs at least. The movie, Imaginaerum, which Tuomas co-wrote, is no less than his poetical work in songs. His mind is an enigma. His psych is... well, the movie puts it nicely...
Back to Tarja. I should say that even if she was singing some Gibberish, she would still possess the ability to reduce me to near-tears...
Back to Nightwish in general... what's going on?? Tarja was kicked out, then Anette... What are they searching for??? Well, I can understand Tuomas as an artist, a poet, who can fall to his own romantic and ideal views, (eh, don't get me in the wrong way), and initiate the dismissal of the two... but already two? That's not good... Some public explanation wherein both sides' stories agree should present itself!

Ruslan Abu Sneineh Nightwish has it's tragedies.. really.. look at most rock bands, it's very typical for changning band members. But changing vocalist is the hardest thing, especially for the devoted fans. But in the end it's up to Tuomas I suppose, since he started it. Who knows what he is thinking about... "The show must go on" "Nightwish is a rollercoaster ride that must not stop" Something along those lines... but tragically, everything has an end. I would maybe not be a musician today if I were so mesmerized by their music during chilhood. I only have love for them.
Killigrew Music It's like when Sabbath fired Ozzy.No one belived Black Sabbath would thrive again, but they did, with Dio, a dip in Toni Martin, but they kept going.. Tuomas said: "Nightwish is a caroussel, it needs to keep spinning, people get on and off it, he is the spinal in the caroussel, like Steve Harris in Iron Maiden, he'll never leave the band, it will be going with other people, and so does Nightwish, the backstabbing letter is a mean thing, and I odn't think Tarja would ever go on stage with Nightwish again, she's truly hurt in her heart, these wheren't fake tears that she ctied there..AND she don't take it out to the new singers og Nightwish * while Ozzy and Dio never went on stage for any oportunity, Tarja is FRIENDS with Floor and duets her when they have a shared gig. But where two fight, two are to blame, I don't think Tarja is a saint in this "fight"either. Sad they split in this way, they * Nightwish* shut the door to ever get her on stage again for let's say Live Aid 2016 for example.. and that is a shame :(
I listen to both old AND new Nightwish
I'm starting to suspect Tuomas might be a bit power hungry. Their onto their 3rd vocalist, and Tarja and Anette were disposed of and rebutted to in the same way. I don't know if it's an attempt to belittle these women, but clearly, something's up. I respect Tuomas infinitely as an artist and musician and he's crazy gorgeous, but looks and talent mean little if you disrespect the people who are there to support you. I have no patience for those who use others as a step ladder to only further themselves. Not pointing fingers, just having a Hmmm... moment.
Lex Marie I think firing someone from a band like that is kinda ugly. But I see his point, she was not in the band in the last years. I saw that coming in 2004, Tarja was singing well over the band but I saw there was no future with her. If you have seen End of an Era dvd, Tuomas is was so disappointed of his actions when firing Vänskä as a bass player (but who would remember a bass player, except me :D), it soon continued with firing Tarja. When watching that dvd, it was disturbing that Tarja barely showed in it. It must have been as hard for Tuomas as it was for her, but he is still the brainchild of Nightwish.
jannexorz For me personally I don't cry a tear over Tarja. Her bad diva behavior caused the band to finally lose patience with her and Tuomas dropped her. She was the cause of that not the others. You can hear it in the way she talks in this presser, very arrogant at times. She has no one to blame but herself.
But now comes Floor Jansen, after Tarja the biggest voice in the Epic/Symphonic Metal genre. I have always loved her voice. Unlike Tarja's old woman vibrato, Floor's vibrato is modulated perfectly for my ears. I don't miss Tarja any more. :)
And for you fans who were surprised at her firing, the last tour was called "End Of An Era". That should have told you something eh?
jannexorz That's if you seriously only believe Tuomas's side, but the band is on their 3rd singer for a reason. I do think the thing about her husband may be true, because the way he was answering questions on Tarja's site towards the fans. Many think he's controlling and he tried to isolate her from the men in the band, especially Tuomas. It was also always assumed the Tuomas had a thing for Tarja, but since she ended up with her husband, he was getting jealous. So yeah, there's more to just Tuomas's side, even if her husband was a part of her being isolated from the other band members so much.

Sad. Tarya with her majestic voice elevated all nightwish to a whole different level., I have watched and listening to their songs with other singers and its nothing like that. Sometimes people are exposed by such actions and those who formed the letter were very indecent.

whatever tarja had planned or talked about doesn't forgive the way the band handled it. if you're in a band, you don't fire a member with a fucking note! be a man and tell them to their face! i haven't listened to anything nightwish has done since tarja was kicked out...that whole thing was just dirty pool man. xD
Kewl Beans The truly disgusting aspect of it all was not so much they did it in a letter. It was doing it in a "open letter" on the internet and it was written specifically in a way to humiliate her and to try and turn fans against her. Tuomas knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote that letter and he specifically hit on hot button issues to inflame the fans against her. If that wasn't enough, they continued bashing her and even wrote songs doing so for the next album. Then they published the book which is supposed to be a "biography" of the band, but is really just another opportunity to bash and blame Tarja and her husband because that's pretty much it's main focus. So, it was all a concerted effort to throw her under the bus and drag her name through the mud. Why? I believe there were 2 reasons. The first of course being revenge because she fell in love with another man. The second was publicity and hype which would drive sales of the next album. If you think about and look back at the way things unfolded, this looks more and more like the true reason for doing this and creating this huge media circus with the "open letter". If the motive had simply been to do what's best for the band, handling it in this way would not have made sense as it only would serve create more hard feelings and animosity. The songs bye bye beautiful and master passion greed are the smoking gun here, as they clearly show an effort to cash in on the controversy.

yeah man totally agree. tuomas played some seriously dirty pool with this one. instead of just moving on and getting over it he went nuts thinking it was totally acceptable to post his letter to her on their website and still be called a human...to make matters worse, bye bye beautiful wasn't even that great of a song. and then they did the same shit to annette after probably forcing her to sing that pos. xD

I think her "Stargazers" and especially "Ghost Love Score" are pretty much epic. Some other songs like "I wish I had an Angel" are less operatic, but more metal. Definately nowhere near pop...You know, people used to call "Nemo" a pop song and it was created for Tarja (and I do not agree with their oppinin either).

Найтвиш это в первую очередь композитор - Томас, и музыку он по прежнему пишет шикарную, плюс сейчас на вокале Флор Янсен. А у Тарьи есть только голос, ни одной песни хоть немного по музыке дотягивающей до Найтвиш я у неё не слышал, так - средний уровень, не высшая лига.
Ну и зря. Тарья теперь ничего толкового не выпустила, тогда как без нее Найтвиш стал куда более известной группой. Флор лучше подходит на роль вокалиста в метал группе.
Да, пока была Аннет - это было "не то", но сейчас - они превзошли изначальных себя - это факт.
Негры реперы даже слушают теперь Найтвиш - настолько они популярны.
most people who have a passion for good music knows that Nightwish died after the hartwell Arena show......Tarja and that incredible voice was the thing that made the music of Tuomas really stand out from all the rest. They should have change the name of the band after the firing of tarja, because Tarja was Nightwish

Understandable, but keep in mind Marcelo had noted by the time he was around, the guys and Tarja had not been speaking (according to him.) A lot of things could have caused the riff, blaming Tuomas is not a solution, hell, neither of us truly know what happened behind closed doors.
The poor guy felt in love with Tarja, made all the way with this band just for her, and just to be with her.
But she went for some Latino guy from different culture, different everything.

darkguy300 to be fair we don’t know if Toumas was really in love with Tarja. Lots of fans like to blame Marcelo for the breakup but there hasn’t been any proof to show that Toumas was in love with her.
Whatever that happened between this people, the guy's attitude was a demonstration of cowardice. I'm brazilian and while reading Toumas' latter at the point he mentioned "cultural differences", the hole thing made no sense to me. Sounded like he was trying to say that one of her mistakes was get in a relationship with "that type of people", if you know what I mean. This combined with things said about the band management and what they did to Anette years later, et cetera ad aeternum... I just can't thrust this guys.

Hmmm... I cannot take sides in this matter, I love Nightwish, and Tarja. I feel it is a fault on both of their parts, I've read that Tuomas has distinctly different personality than her and Emppu so there was bound to be issues, but who's to say. Other than that, I can see the fault in both of them, and still love them for it despite this unfortunate turn out that is what... almost 9 years old? I'm not entirely sure. In their early documentaries Tarja seemed to be very active with them, but in the documentary about End of an Era, the tension was clearly there, it was VERY strange to sit through O.O
Oh for sure, both were at fault. It caused a lot of hurt/grief on both parts. They definitely should have done it differently. I think Tuomas hated himself for it, which is why Poet and the Pendulum exists. I'm unsure about what happened with Anette, but I am unsure it was similar even if it looks like it. I'm happy with their current line up. It's unfortunate that things went about, but it made them grow, hopefully into better people and into a better and more tight knit band.

Nightwish was at its prime with Tarja and since then - though producing several good songs it could never be again. Because it was always obvious how her voice is missing. In fact - it feels lot less odd to me to hear Tarja solo songs recorded in similar style than the new "Nightwish" production.
And as for her vs. band guilt. It doesn't even matter. The way how they handled it was so harsh, so childish and without - how would I put it - decency - that even if she'd be guilty of every damn single thing they accused her for they'd show by such action they are no better. And I believe she was not. Probably her only guilt was being a lot more intelligent than the rest of the band what even this interview and how she behaves shows.

It has been many years, but I still hate Tuomas for this action. What do you have to be a type of human being to do something like that? Such matters are not regulated with an open letter, even if you have a touch of decency. If this coward had been a real man, he would have told Tarja normally - he did not have to expose her to the entire fan base.
This was not fair, and it was just an ugly way of clarifying this matter.
Tuomas is very talented musician and lyricist. I got drawn to Nightwish because if this woman but the music is just as superb. This woman was anyway going to leave Nightwish..she is crying because she wasn't allowed to leave on her own terms. Tarja is super talented but got greedy with old mates.

This turned out to be a good thing to happen because I love her solo career now, if they had not done it we would have listened to none of her amazing albums. I think she's a nice person, and didn't deserve it, but life goes on and I'm so happy that she did leave it all behind and have tried a lot to prove that she's a great great GREAT artist

Also, after she was gone, I never bought NW album again. For me, NW stopped existing after End of an era tour. Till this day, if I listen NW I listen only songs where Tarja sings.
I fell in love with her voice first time I heared it after I heared Angels falls first on casette player. No cd's then for people who didn't swim in money in my country :p And it was pirated. Bought album next day

I've seen this before and I am pretty familiar with the story but all of a sudden I see it differently and clearly. It's like when you have a lover who keeps telling you they are going to leave you. And that is the future you are always looking to, so how can you plan anything? They were tired of that state of affairs. And I see that, in the spirit of fairness. I still love Tarja's contribution, I love her voice, her beautiful face, her eyes, and it pains me to see her cry. But it seems that was the reality of the situation.
Cultural differences? Is there other name for that than racism? It is hard for me to write that because I love the band but I can not figure other explanation. Tuomas and the olhers, apparently, had their issues with Marcelo (Tarja's husband). How ever, it can't not be jutified due to "cultural differences", meanig that people from Argentina, if not from the whole south America, lack in caracter. I've got particulary offended due to I'm brasilian. When I first read the letter I've got shocked and diminished by these words. I forgot over time and I've got interested about their stuff again, espetially after Floor joined the band. However, this subject poped up againg with the recently news about Marco's marryging a brasilian - Camila (Her full name was not published). What about "cultural diferences" now? The "cultural difference" was just about the people from Argentina? (I'm just questioning Marco becouse Tuomas said that the letter was aproved by the other guys, wich means that they agreed with everything that was writen).

But what they have in common is very rough generalization which is always unfair for the individuals who differ from the stereotypes. But the remark felt out of place, like they were purposely seeking reasons to criticize her when there really was none.
"Cultural difference" doesn't mean South Americans are bad people, with bad morals. But to deny their existence is also childish. South Americans are generally warm, extroverted, direct, confrontational, easy-going - while Finns (together with other Scandinavians) are introverted, cold, hide their emotions, controlled, composed, etc. Ofc these are generalizations, but generalizations are there for a reason - it means the majority of people in that group are like that. It doesn't mean one is good and other is bad, it just means it's hard to understand each other sometimes. For a warm and open people to see someone stay cold and silent can easily be interpreted in the wrong way. Also, different cultures value different things differently. If someone points to obvious differences it's not automatically racist or xenophobic. We are different, and we should celebrate our differences. If we were, all the same, it would be one hell of a boring, boring world.

Marcelo was the only person to attend to Tarja the night she was attacked onstage .. afterward, he was outraged at the band members for their disregard an that was the start of it..further they resented Tarja for hiring a manger to represent her interests which she felt were consistently ignored..as time were on Tarja had Marcelo negotiate her part with the band's manager which made Tomas mad believing thst she has become full of herself..she gave Tuomas every opportunity to to rectify the situation but to no avail and Tuomas's resentment and anger grew..if you wish i can provide further details
I cry seeing her cry! My eyes are tearing in class. I love Tarja and she is so good as a soloist now! It sucks that NW kicked her out the way they did. She didn't deserve that. But eh on the bright side Tarja is absolutely FABULOUS right now and so beautiful and ahh! There are so many words to describe her! I just love Tarja! :)

This interview makes me wanna cry, too. Tarja is so sad, so hurt and fragile, that I could hardly stand watching her. On the other hand she is strong and beautiful. Unbelievable she went through the whole interview until the end. That`s great for a person at her age. Many stars would`nt have managed that. And after all: Tarja does not need nightwish. Tarja won. Today she is doubtlessly the best. Her voice became more stable, more voluminous and much more brilliant than it was before. So her performance did. It is better than ever. She`s even much more beautiful and attractive than 10 years ago. Very well done! She deserves it.

Tarja was fired because she wanted to start a solo career and did not want to take part in rehearsals for live performances and it reduced the quality of the performances .Marcelo used Tarja to tighten up more money and cause controversy.
Anette was fired because she didn’t accept Alize and Elise and Floor she didn’t accept the rest of the tour as a successor.
Tarja apologized for an open letter intended for fans to explain the difference and its reasons.
This is the most unwise breakup in the history of music, for both parties involved

It is as though an angel is crying from an emotional heartache. it is so hard to separate her angelic voice from her person. perhaps she brought this breakup on herself but one cant watch this interview without sympathizing with her pain.
Floor is a phenomenal singer, Annette is a phenomenal singer in her solo career, but Nightwish lost their soul in Tarja. The band is not the same, many fans had the impression that Tuomas was envious that the fans were listening to the band because of Tarja and not him. I don't know, but justice be made, the quality of songwriting has been decreasing over the years since she left aswell...

All in all despite the sad ending they had, in the end it turned out to take them to higher places! the band went to have Annette and now Floor (which I'm very happy for) and Tarja launched her solo career now out with her third album! I get more fantastic music from all these incredible artists! even if it isn't the old Nightwish anymore, all good and bad things come to an end and like she said life goes on and it did for the better!
I used to listen nightwish just for her voice, they had great music but because of her and even if they wanna change and the things they said were true (what they are not) they shouldn´t say it on public, and u can clearly see as she points in this conference that they look like a mad ex boyfriend saying those awfall things about not just her husband but all a culture. Im from argentina and i really hate it when i read about that cultural difference they mentioned, that was so discriminative...she has the right of get married whoever she wants and to grow old and get a family, we all have to grow up wont be nw forever and they didn´t need to be such assholes
I researched this situation very recently. I'm an 18 year's old brasilian teenager, so... there is this blog that covered the hole thing and I readed the posts in chronological order, it includes Toumas and Tarja letters. Discrimination is exactly what I felt when he talked about cultural differences.

Indeed! That's why she told them in private in that dec2004 meeting she wanted to leave but would do one more album and one more tour. She also agree to keep it private that she was going to leave. She did all this out of consideration of how it would effect them. Even though they were giving her such a hard time about her husband who they disliked greatly, she was still being considerate to them. Furthermore doing this made her vulnerable and allowed them to do what they did with the open letter and huge drama play they created. Clearly she was doing this for them and clearly she trusted them by putting herself in a position of disadvantage. What did they do in return? They exploited it to their advantage and used it against her. This alone shows the character of both sides and which side is dishonest and conniving.
The key word there is " background" which can include culture, ideology and political leanings, none of which are race and all of which involve personal choice.
Back in the day when I heard about this I was shocked...But after I've watched their documentary "A day before tomorrow" it's obvious that the end was inevitable. They didn't even had to say anything, it's right their in their eyes, the disappointment and sadness. I'm not here to blame anyone, since this kind of life must be very hard, it doesn't even seem at any point that Tarja was aware of the harm she caused. It's all in "the day before tomorrow"... But there, 2013. seems so much brighter =)

Tarja was the one who convinced Tuomas to make a band cause his music was something special. Now Tarja is now the queen of Symphonic Metal and with a very successful career with thousands and thousands of fan to see here preform
