Truth is stranger than Fiction: You were colouring in 10 METRES of fabric and then a company calls you to tell you have that they have the fabric you were looking for? Wow.
Wow, yellow is 900% your color! You look like a ray of sunshine! The dress is so beautiful. One of my favorite things about your videos is that they make me see historical clothes in a new light. I never would have noticed the trim on the original gown if you hadn’t explained it! Very excited to see the hand-colored sister gown as well.
OMG this is incredible! It actually looks accessible to intermediate sewists! Of course, you make it look easy! 😉 I really enjoyed this video because of all of the information about the dress the history and the fabrics and all of that but also because of your puppy! lol
The way my eyes lit up on that purple fabric being embroidered at the end haha Very excited for the Black Beard suit! You look so good in all these yellows and reds/jewel tones! Your work is very inspiring and I hope you and the fam are doing well ~
I don't think any natural fiber obsession can be unhealthy. I'm more of a wool person, but I totally understand. This dress is gorgeous, as are all your projects, and I love seeing your projects! Thank you for sharing the resources you use, its lovely to know about where to look for supplies/patterns/refrences.
Just learned of your channel from Bernadette Banner. Was watching her video of remaking her wool coat at the beginning of the pandemic and mentioned that you were an anesthesiologist and had your own channel! I am a retired OR nurse. I don’t think any of our anesthesiologists sew, much mess make historical clothing! Your work is outstanding!!!! I do know a OBGYN that has a cross stitch channel - Vintage Cross Stitch Niche. She hand dyes a lot of her own fabrics. Looking forward to watching much more of your channel!
You never seize to amaze me. Dress is beautiful! You are adorable, when you "pose" for the camera during the sewing progress you give a big smile, makes me chuckle. Besides being a doctor, wife, mother, seamstress (with patience to do all that hand sewing), smart, computer and embroidery machine wiz what other talents do you have?
This is an amazing, beautiful, breathtaking, fresh, spectacular, perfect dress! I always enjoy seeing your process and your results. Also, re. your sponsor footage: Girl! you Kill in that black suit!
I love it! Love love love! This is definitely one of the gowns I've paused on and admired very much. The poufy back and the fitted clean line of the bodice and the froufrou of the hem and such - and the beautiful fabric. It all adds up to a most feminine flattering gown and you look beautiful in it. Also, your hubby is exactly the right height to pin the sleeves without having to go up on tippy toe and also to sneak in the odd smooch while pinning, which is always important 😊
Stunning as always. Had a bit of a chuckle at the end when you showed an Americal Girl Doll. A year ago I had no idea what these were, and then seemingly overnight several TH-camrs I follow start sewing historically acurate or human sized replicas of their gowns. Looking forward to seeing your take on this new trend.
The gown is spectacular, no surprises there, but A+ and major kudos to your fitting partner!! Sleeves are really fiddly and he's got it down. Love seeing that!
As a fellow fan of Scroop Patterns but not a subscriber of yours (mostly because I'm generally into slightly different eras and I can only keep up with so much, KWIM?), I am so glad TH-cam decided to recommend this video to me because I had been looking forward to learning more about this project but rather forgot to keep my eyes peeled for it in the general busy-ness of life. :-) (I'm pretty sure Leimomi herself was also excited for it because that shade of yellow is her favourite - and it's now one of my favourites because of her!) That fabric is awesome, and it's great that things lined up for you like that to make the dress a reality! The thing about dress history research is that it's a relatively recent field. So many of these discoveries like what a polonaise dress actually is are relatively recent, so there's a lot of outdated info out there simply because the field is in so much flux right now!
An outstanding make ❤ The colour grew on me as you worked on it ! Your sewing techniques are becoming more refined and your beautiful assistant always at your side looked so happy at the end to race around you as you frolicked in your back garden ! 😀 🐕 . Hope your move goes well, wishing u many blessings 👍🍁
The final gown looks lovely! I personally like that the hips aren’t so massive and round as in the original - it would be rather cartoonish and impractical on most people. Looking forward to the court suit teaser at the end! One small note about the video, I found that the music in the final construction sequence was a bit too loud and made it difficult to understand the narration. Could be my audio, but figured I mentioned it.
I found the same thing for some parts of the video, and that I have to keep putting my volume up and down depending on whether there's dialogue or music playing. The music is definitely a lot higher than the dialogue throughout.
That was exquisite to watch! A feast for the eyes - you're so fascinating and whatever you make is just delicious!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 Thanks for sharing your talent and skills!
Gaaaawlly! Such a beautiful piece! In my imagination, I can see all your gorgeous gowns hanging in a ridiculously large walk-in rococo closet/boudoir. Just walking past each piece and brushing a hand across all that silk...the sensory overload. Swoon.
Absolutely beautiful dress! There were a couple points in this video where I couldn't hear you speaking over the music but watching you work is always a joy!
What a beautiful historical adaptation of this Metropolitan Museum of Art 18th century dress. Your thought process and explanation are, as always, perfection. Watching you create is a pure joy. Thank you thank you dear master craftsperson for this vlog. 😉🙏🥰
I'm blown away. I was browsing the list of Historical Princess contirbutors in Rachel Maksey's discription box and saw you made Anna. Insted of watching that I was intrigued by this video's thumbnail. I'm just....in shock. The work you put into this gown is insane. I love it so much!!
So cool to watch a piece of history come to life! When you see these dresses in museums (sometimes under low light to protect them) you rarely get a sense of what the colors were really like or how the fabric moved. To say nothing of how much effort garments took before the invention of the sewing machine! Thanks for sharing your process! (PS, would not mind a bit if fichus made a comeback as a summer accessory.)
So grateful for your vlog! I'm making the Angelica gown right now but when they said advanced they weren't kidding :') your visual is so helpful! Thank you
This is my favorite historic gown of all time, seeing it on display in the Interwoven Globe exhibit almost a decade ago (where did the time go??) was so exciting. Supremely jealous you have your own version to wear!
Wow, it’s always so much fun watching you bring life to a piece of history. Your videos are so informative and very relaxing. Kudos on the editing and music choices, seriously your videos have as much polish as your dresses😁
Your work is exquisite, as always! I'm impressed not only with your talent but with your time management skills as well, juggling working as a physician with a husband, child, and doggies. Also intrigued by your scalloping iron that you hammered to get that edge, I bet it was hard to find
I REALLY loved this video and dress! I did think the music was a little loud though, at the point when you were polonaise-ing the dress I couldn't really make out what you were saying, but my hearing isn't so good, so it might just have been me!
I just want to say that your master sewing skills are a dream! You amaze me! I sew want to have you as a sewing instructor! P.S. I am new to your channel
This couldn't have come out at a better time! I've been working on the undergarments for my halloween costume since the beginning of August and am planning on using this pattern for a 1780's Elsa inspired dress! I just finished the petticoat yesterday and am starting on the dress next week!
@@WardGalina I am! My @ is @the3mmadil3mma. I’ve been posting updates that are saved in a highlight. I’m making it more historically inspired than historically accurate bc I have limited time/energy but it’s been really fun so far!
Truth is stranger than Fiction: You were colouring in 10 METRES of fabric and then a company calls you to tell you have that they have the fabric you were looking for? Wow.
At $230 though ... Suddenly the wool I just bought feels like a total bargain 😆
To be fair, she was coloring the white one and they had the fabric that was correct for the yellow one.
It's $230 for 5 meters so ~$46/meter - still a lot but way more reasonable than the 2k+ total I thought it was..!
It’s beautiful!!! I had forgotten about the Bernie pockets - so fun. May moving go smoothly.
Thank you so much!!
I am pretty sure Sewstine could clothe half an 18th century royal court with the number of gorgeous gowns and suits she's made over the years.
I'd like to be in that court! lol
Omg your Bernie pocket had me CACKLING!! So cute. Your gown is beautiful and you look amazing in it. Well done

The amazing part about knowing how to sew: you can make anything you want! Amazing video, Sewstine, as always!
Also…second ✨
OMG this is incredible! It actually looks accessible to intermediate sewists! Of course, you make it look easy! 😉

Ok, I can’t wait for the Blackbeard cosplay, but for the moment, that dress is amazing! Great job!
I don't think any natural fiber obsession can be unhealthy. I'm more of a wool person, but I totally understand.

This was meant to be! Also yes to Bernie pockets!!!
Lol... I didn't realise how much I missed your videos (and creations of course) until this came up on my feed! Yay! And how gorgeous is that silk? 🥰
Thank you!!
Love how that gathering looks in the back. It's so floofy and magical!
Wow this is beautiful! By the way back when you lived in the St Louis area we lived super close (O'Fallon IL).
All the dedication and hard work makes this beautiful silk gown a well deserved reward!

ooo those little pleats *squeel* love the new soundtrack
When you explained the shoulder pleats I literally said WHAT. Brilliant. Your husband is so sweet and handy to help you with the fitting!
The gown is spectacular, no surprises there, but A+ and major kudos to your fitting partner!! Sleeves are really fiddly and he's got it down. Love seeing that!
I love the way you match the floral patterns.
Brilliant! Gorgeous dress, fabric, pattern, everything. 💛💛💛
I so appreciate the clear step by step instructions you show. SO HELPFUL!!!
Love the dress! SO excited for the black beard cosplay!!!!
I love watching your videos - you see the fantasy and it’s always so beautiful and fun + you explain things so well
Thank you so so much!!
You are so incredibly talented, it's absolutely insane! The dress fits like a glove! I absolutely love it.

That dress is so ridiculously lovely! You look so cute and happy wearing it too 😊Really motivating video to get me back into sewing practice

Oh my god. To watch this whole amazing video, only to have you drop OFMD at the end! Can’t WAIT!
Absolutely beautiful dress!
There were a couple points in this video where I couldn't hear you speaking over the music but watching you work is always a joy!
They were lucky to have you as a tester for that pattern. I can't imagine anyone doing it more justice! I love the yellow color on you! ❤
That is just gorgeous 😍 Incidentally, I always enjoy the music you choose to go with your videos 😄
What a beautiful historical adaptation of this Metropolitan Museum of Art 18th century dress. Your thought process and explanation are, as always, perfection. Watching you create is a pure joy. Thank you thank you dear master craftsperson for this vlog. 😉🙏🥰
The time you have spent on your craft shows in all the details, large and small, but I'm constantly impressed by your hand sewing!!
That is so cute , like beautiful dress u did an amazing job
Truly astonishing and glorious. You look amazing. Wonderful work.
So gorgeous, very joyful gown, love all the details you give
That dress is stunning!! The well-chosen fabric did a marvelous job of helping re-create the dress! Brava!

So gorgeous!
That dog also looks very fit for an 18th century noblewoman.
I mean, all of us have a favourite museum and it’s nice to know you like the V&A.
This is delightful and I love how bright the colours are! It's coming into Spring here and this gives me all those vibes.
OMG it's soooo BEAUTIFUL!!! 😍😍😍😍😍 Really fantastic work!
Everything you make is so beautiful; this dress is no exception! Your puppy sleeping; while you are sewing is too cute.
xoxo's Sandie
Love the dress and also the prevalance of supportive partners in the historical sewing community :)
The pleating is 🔥
This is so pretty and fluffy! 😮
I think that white Italian gown is the same one as is pictured in the American Duchess 18th century dressmaking book and it is my dream gown

Ohhhhh! Thank you for showing the pinking shears method. I can do that!
So grateful for your vlog! I'm making the Angelica gown right now but when they said advanced they weren't kidding :') your visual is so helpful! Thank you
