I found this song a few years back when I saw the music video on TV during Christmas at my grandmother's house. I fell in love with it and listened to it for awhile but eventually forgot pretty much everything about it. All I remembered was Phoenix, the word "testosterone" and that the video was weird and had numbers counting down. And now, years later I just found it again and it really does feel I've finding it for the first time all over again.
I saw this video on acid with a friend a couple years back on his living room tv, and we were just awestruck at how beautiful the entire experience was, felt like they were giving us a living room concert, wish I could relive that moment.
Me too man. Something about Phoenix after not listening to them for so many years really can bring me back. Different times by a long shot. Hope youre doing well and damn straight its a kicker of a song
+Alejandro leiva uribe underrated means that they r not rated as highly ..as in liked as highly as they should be..they should be more popular than they are right now but they are not.
no, they are well know, but i hope after this collaboration with the now corrupt vice site(riip the true one), they will burn in hell, like being french is not enough...
This has me in SHAMBLES. I’m making a huge playlist of songs I listened to in high school and of course this emerged. A forever banger! My heart is aching with nostalgia🥲 I hope whoever comes across this version has a stellar day!🌟
Honestly, if they'd have put this version of the song on Spotify for as long as the album versions, by now it would have been a permanent top 5 song for them with hundreds of millions of plays. This is definitely the best version of both Trying to be Cool and Drakkar Noir and I wish it was on Spotify, lol.
I’ll never forget when my older brother introduced me to Phoenix back when I was 12, now I’m 32 and still love them! Such an amazing band! I’m trying to get tickets to one of their upcoming concerts for my brothers birthday! 🤞
Phoenix is one of the best groups I know. Unluckily, I used to listen to them a lot during a really low age of my life, that's why their music brings me bad memories sometimes. I hope this doesn't last too much anymore, cause it'd be a pity if I can´t enjoy listening to them anymore
I know how u feel. I was drinking heavily when this came out& haven't listened to them in awhile....since I've been sober. I've enjoyed listening to them tonight tho. No badness or want to be intoxicated. In fact, I'd like to purchase some of their music because I've had a nice night....w/the rain, my dog& a bowl of Fiber One.
I played them on repeat after a big break up a long time ago, I understand this feeling 😔 it gets better after a long time and it you will feel the fun again from it
When I first saw this video, there was something that caught my attention. It was the artistic quality. This is a French band from Versailles. French pop has some of the coolest videos. C'e magnifique.
That Phoenix vibe will always be unique to me, positive, just like Smallpools, but with the awesome guitar riffs. Glad I found indie in the first place!
This is one of Phoenix's songs I didn't like as much at first but it grew on me because I liked the video. It's so much more satisfying than the instant gratification we get so much from a lot of pop.
Rachel Behik tru at first you're like nah but it really grows on you, this is a mashup of Trying To Be Cool and Drakkar Noir too (another song of theirs!)
Why is it shit indie songs have 100 mil and this only has 7 ? This is brilliant.. Its like i feel cool listening to I imagine life and the future just this is great guys!
Matteo Ferrazzi No, you don't. I'm french and i confirm your translation ;) Except you write an grave accent on the "e" of "échec" and it's an acute accent, that's all^^
This is the definitive version of TTBC,. The distorted guitars give it that extra punch, it's perfect We need a clean audio version of this, D'Arcy's bike kinda breaks the mood
This is a masterpiece!!! I don't know if you've noticed, but video diveded into parts and you can always see the next camera preparing to film and countdown of every piece of film!!! That's amazing!!
This song came out years after I graduated college, bu this band and their songs(even the newer ones) have a way of taking me back to high school and college.
Hector Giovany Chloroform is my second favorite. But nothing beat this one for me. I'm not really a huge fan of Bankrupt, I think it's a good but not exceptional album.
Mateus Murozaki dude, this might be the 4th video I bump into you. We have really similar taste. Anyway, agreed. Best song in Bankrupt, but I love Entertainment as well. Take it easy
This was a song that led me to my best friend. We were both in uni and we're waiting for our professor and we happened to start chatting and I introduced her this song. Over the next few classes we just started chatting about Phoenix's discography. We're almost 30 now but I always kind of remember the chaotic time we had in college when I revisit this album.
I can’t believe I just watched this video on June 6 of 2024 randomly without knowing it was filmed this same day on 2013 OMG can’t believe how much time it’s been, this is one of my favorite songs takes me back to the good old days
Don't know for sure, but it's damn long!! He went halfway up into the crowd from the stage at Hollywood Bowl with it, then across the audience before going back... dragging that SAME RED CHORD the whole way.... don't know why he doesn't want to use a wireless microphone!
And this is why I fucking love phoenix they are such a great band I love every single song from them. Fuck all that coco, u guessed it crap this is real music 👌
Man, when Drakkar Noir kicks in at the end... This is the definitive version of both songs.
Trying to be Noir
agreed! Drakkar Noir is the heart and soul of the entire piece!
"Checkmate"
"Merde!"
Love that part.
I think the kid just grunted in frustration. I could be wrong though
@@markasbrown9120 just as a kid in the states will grunt "shi-" or "fu-" in frustration instead of annunciating the whole bad word. Makes sense.
I was looking for this comment
Merde!
I feel like this song should play every time I put on sunglasses.
10amSanta mood
-Ur Daily Weirdø- yessss
Play it for your self cause no matter what cool is cool and as long as you feel it why not look it. 😎😊
get the bose frames and it will
👠 or my high heels
this is one of those music videos where you wish you could watch it for the first time again.
Just watched it for the first time
nice profile. depression cherry ?

Just watched it for the 25 first times today
I saw this video on acid with a friend a couple years back on his living room tv, and we were just awestruck at how beautiful the entire experience was, felt like they were giving us a living room concert, wish I could relive that moment.
This version is better than the normal studio version, the use of actual guitars instead of synths makes this soo damned good.
Literallyyyy
3:28 the dancers do that same move in What You Know and The Less I Know the Better. That must be Canada's signature dance choreography.
Pourquoi le canada ils sont français 😅
@laeti8351 the director collective who makes these videos is named Canada
just revisited this song, and man.
this (and the whole of bankrupt) brought me back to some damn good times. i miss 2013.
still an absolute banger.
Me too man. Something about Phoenix after not listening to them for so many years really can bring me back. Different times by a long shot. Hope youre doing well and damn straight its a kicker of a song
So do I. God, time goes by so quickly.
Same here. Entertainment and this will always bring me back to my teenage days :’(
Phoenix blows my mind literally every time.
Christo *Phoenix blows my mind, literally every time.
+Christo niigggggaaaa
these guys are so underrated
+Alejandro leiva uribe underrated means that they r not rated as highly ..as in liked as highly as they should be..they should be more popular than they are right now but they are not.

ganjaman59650 Jesus Christ dude chill
In their home land, France, almost no one ever heard about Phoenix
ganjaman What?
Love the guitar in this version.
Gives the song more substance.
agreed, adds rawness
Totally
i agree
I agree
More mint julep testosterone
I freaking hate that this version isn’t on Spotify
yeah its supreme
I agree. The guitar sounds so much better in this version.
Basically is Trying to be Cool mixed with Drakkar Noir
The ending is a part of Drakkar Noir
@@droydfulyeah but the mix is much better IMO, especially the little guitar solo/fill after the second verse
This has me in SHAMBLES. I’m making a huge playlist of songs I listened to in high school and of course this emerged. A forever banger! My heart is aching with nostalgia🥲
I hope whoever comes across this version has a stellar day!🌟
I still can't believe Phoenix filmed this music video LIVE!!!!!! They just became even more AWESOME!!!!!
2019?
My old days made me come here againn
2023 & I still get chill bumps like I did the very first time I heard it.😌
#Timeless🤙🏽
i remember i used to be in love with this song and video, i can't believe i forgot about it, it is so good
same though
same. this song is easy to fall in love with
This song is only 3 years old.
Adam Troy yep and i still forgot about it, idk but the song makes me feel a little nostalgic, and this band hasn't been on my mind for a while.
beatl0
Canada is the best music video director of our generation.
Agreed, just look at Tokyo Police Club videos..so nice
xxiPlatinumzz O lol
This is superb! 'The Less I Know The Better' from Tame Impala is another great video.
Its a group of directors lol
I’ll never forget when my older brother introduced me to Phoenix back when I was 12, now I’m 32 and still love them! Such an amazing band! I’m trying to get tickets to one of their upcoming concerts for my brothers birthday! 🤞
Omg that's freaking awesome you are lucky cool brother heha
That one guitarist is the most French looking guy in the world
Lol you are right
phoenix needs to come back asap
update in 2019, they need to come back again!!
ikr
They not finished trying to be cool.
new album is coming out or is released idk
I know dude, this was almost a year ago lmao
OH BOY DID THEY
Phoenix is one of the best groups I know. Unluckily, I used to listen to them a lot during a really low age of my life, that's why their music brings me bad memories sometimes. I hope this doesn't last too much anymore, cause it'd be a pity if I can´t enjoy listening to them anymore

The studio version is not the same. Love this
This is why I love Indie music cause of songs like this 👍
xyzangeel is not indie
it actually is
Additon It is you moron lmfao
+Additon indie now doesn't represent not having a label anymore, it represents a genre in between Synth Pop & Alternative Rock.
***** Yes. Its the best kind of music.
i love the way they all stand
2:59 i wish they had that part in the album version...
that is the song Drakkar Noir
The scariest thing about this song is that I’m worried that someday I won’t be able to hear it again. Say in like 50 years. I love Phoenix forever
That Phoenix vibe will always be unique to me, positive, just like Smallpools, but with the awesome guitar riffs. Glad I found indie in the first place!

Our Lady Of Skyscrapers Yeah I just realised after listening to bankrupt and it's actually so much better with them both combined ahhh
3:20 best part ever
French Synth Pop at it's very best! You've got to love Phoenix, they don't even have to try to be cool
The guitar sounds rad
Why is it shit indie songs have 100 mil and this only has 7 ? This is brilliant.. Its like i feel cool listening to I imagine life and the future just this is great guys!
What indie song broke 100 mil views lol
look for them because I saw a few lol
+Sean you're the kind of hipster people hate.
Does anyone know how to instal mc texture packs?
+Syafiq Pha unfortunately
2:15 he says 'èchec et mat' to the kid - 'check mate' in French if anyone was wondering
And the kid says "merde!", which mean "shit!" ;)
no, he said, I'm a baller
Ali Akkan sorry, I must have misheard
Matteo Ferrazzi
No, you don't. I'm french and i confirm your translation ;)
Except you write an grave accent on the "e" of "échec" and it's an acute accent, that's all^^
Ninie Bala I know I was joking
thanks for the correction though
This is one of those songs that you just know you're going to love by listening to the first 10 seconds of it.
I can't get enough of Phoenix! They are so goooood!
I remember watching this ten years ago on my 16th birthday in a pizzeria in Ugljan, Ugljan in Croatia and thinking it was the coolest thing I ever saw
Bro I was 18 and remember when this album came out I was going on a date and man that hyped me for the night lol
I still don't understand how this song didn't get popular on the radio....
Never let this song die!!!!
This song is the one for the drummer rest in an album where almolst every song has to take the drumming skills to the limit.
que?
This is the definitive version of TTBC,. The distorted guitars give it that extra punch, it's perfect
We need a clean audio version of this, D'Arcy's bike kinda breaks the mood
right right and those big phat synths! This record still sounds amazing! As far as I'm concerned these guys are still years ahead of the world.
came back for this Masterpiece Song from Phoenix. ❤️
Phoenix is so underrated!
the ending of this song is so beatiful
Phoenix is a cool band
This is a FANTASTIC SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a masterpiece!!!
I don't know if you've noticed, but video diveded into parts and you can always see the next camera preparing to film and countdown of every piece of film!!! That's amazing!!
I love the way they can burst into a random trippy bridge and find their way back to the catchy verse and chrous
one of the best videos ever
like the guitar in this
I can't describe how much I love this song.
Perfection.
This song came out years after I graduated college, bu this band and their songs(even the newer ones) have a way of taking me back to high school and college.
That's called art. And no, that's not just some fancy words randomly put together but an artwork. I wish you to enjoy it in a close future.
They're all GORGEOUS
this song is so good
I'm still waiting for this version to be available on Apple Music. I'm not sure what's more underrated the song or the music video.
I met Phoenix for this song and I just fell in love with them. Such a great band
'If I ever feel better' is also an awesome song.
Best song in Bankrupt.
Hector Giovany Chloroform is my second favorite. But nothing beat this one for me. I'm not really a huge fan of Bankrupt, I think it's a good but not exceptional album.
Mateus Murozaki I agree. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is another story. TotBL is the shit
Mateus Murozaki dude, this might be the 4th video I bump into you. We have really similar taste. Anyway, agreed. Best song in Bankrupt, but I love Entertainment as well. Take it easy
Eblem Ortega Haha, cool. What are some other bands you like?
+Mateus Murozaki lol I see you everywhere I go man
I just heard this band for the first time on PBS and instantly liked their sound, which is very 80's
Finally saw them live on Monday. They are definitely mind fellators. My mind was officially blown seeing them. 💥
This version should be on spotify
They tried to be cool and they succeeded... Superb.
they must have had the best time filming this. too awesome!
Great band. Love their songs.
Really good music video and a great song!
THIS SONG IS GREAT
First like in 5 years.... 😊
It felt like it was yesterday that this came out and I just graduated high school man can’t believe it’s been 10 years and still a banger
This was a song that led me to my best friend. We were both in uni and we're waiting for our professor and we happened to start chatting and I introduced her this song. I went out and bought a pair of sunglasses when i heard this song.

Phoenix is one of the best alternative pop bands at least in the last 20 years
the look on guitarist face at the beginning is priceless
This is the most entertaining video I have ever seen

I saw Phoenix on my 12th birthday, a few months after Bankrupt dropped. I just turned 21, and this beautiful song and video really takes me back :')
Same age and you lived my childhood dreams as a female dope stuff
I was 12 too when I heard Phoenix 1901 it started at. Beginning of the end of good popular alternative after 2012
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
No me canso nunca nunca de este video...
Gracias por su música!!🎶
Criminally under viewed was this in a fifa game
Song came straight from 1982 on another planet and made it's way here, today! Awesome!
I can’t believe I just watched this video on June 6 of 2024 randomly without knowing it was filmed this same day on 2013 OMG can’t believe how much time it’s been, this is one of my favorite songs takes me back to the good old days
How long that microphone cable ?
Don't know for sure, but it's damn long!! He went halfway up into the crowd from the stage at Hollywood Bowl with it, then across the audience before going back... dragging that SAME RED CHORD the whole way.... don't know why he doesn't want to use a wireless microphone!
Rizky Alimar and the wire is actually glowing haha
David Pullen Because he's trying to be cool? ;)
Yes
And this is why I fucking love phoenix they are such a great band I love every single song from them. Fuck all that coco, u guessed it crap this is real music 👌
Reminds me heavily of Weezer. Love both bands.
^^^
Waaaay better than Weezer with a lot more talent though haha
+Maxx Doran hell no, weezer is awesome
weezer was good for 2 albums lol then pure shite
Last 2 are nice tho, but the rest of their discography sucks hard
Why ain't they more famous? COME TO Houston!!!
Respect to my French brothers from across the channel!
CHECKMATE!
