When Spain left the Philippines, did the people stay? Or more so, so many the amount was more then the native population? Despite watching Geography Now talk about the Philippines, I still know little about the history.

The Philippines was a Spanish colony from 1521 to 1898. Our modern language has a lot of spanish modified and strewn in. While we don't really speak Spanish as our first language here anymore, a lot of influences are still very much there.
