    the 120 gsm is one of my favorite notebooks. Glad to see you do a review on it. I have several of these as I enjoy using them with all my fountain pens and gel pens.

      It definitely is a nice notebook and a pretty safe choice for most types of pens.

    I too had issues with a standard Leuchtturm1917 notebook. Interesting that their solution to make it more fountain pen-friendly is to simply make the paper heavier. This looks like a really nice notebook with much improvement though, and I’d bet the paper feels luxurious too. But I’ve become attached to my Maruman Mnemosyne notebooks, since spiral binding is now my preferred style. Thanks for the review!

      Thanks for the comment! My guess is that they got complaints about ghosting and bleeding so the easiest (and probably cheapest) way to address it would be to use a thicker version of the same paper. I love Maruman's Mnemosyne and their Smooth to Write papers.

      @@BlakesBroadcastI'm surprised, I have nothing but fountain pens and the 1917 classic 80g paper never bleeds or shows through. Moleskein, on the other hand is terrible. Even my finest and driest pens show through the page.

    I have been using mine as a daily art journal for the past 2 months, and it handles heavy ink and watercolour quite well. Some buckling when I do washes, but it doesn't bleed through, which I love. I don't use markers much, and the zebra markers I have tried do ghost a bit, but marker friendly paper is a world of its own. It works great with my chosen media, so I'd buy it again. I am looking forward to more colour options in the future!

    I used to use the 80 gsm notebook. I was especially a big fan of the red dots edition. Rhodia started making their Goalbooks hardcover and I have switched to them. I like them better than the 1917. The Rhodia paper is really smooth and hardly bleeds like the 1917.

    Thanks for the thorough review! I had used a standard and filled the notebook, but oh boy the ghosting drove me bonkers. I ordered a 120g and should get it in this week. The ghosting will be much more minimal. I hope you will like it. If you want a thinner paper, check out the 80gsm Paper Mind Blocker notebook. This has roughly the same amount of ghosting as the 120g Leuchtturm.

    That is an excellent paper. The pricing is also in a perfect place.
    Germany has the oldest companies producing paper for the Western World. A company called Hahnemühle has existed since 1584. We have here also another company called X47, they have worked for just a couple of years with A. Lange & Söhne/Glashütte watchmakers with a long tradition. X47 uses for their calenders a metal holder that has the same design used for the wristbands in mechanical watches. Their products are excellent and precise, but they also cost something more than what you have there.
    Summa summarum, this product you have here is outstanding for that price range.

    Another great review, Blake! As someone who enjoys the aesthetics of writing with fountain pens, I’m always interested in how various inks sheen and shade on different papers. Would love to see you add that in upcoming notebook reviews. Maybe you could include comparisons using chromoshaders like Sailor 123 and high sheeners like Organics Studio Nitrogen (as well as subtler shaders and sheeners).

    I do get a kick out of the variety of pronunciations of "Leuchtturm" in review vids. I did find a video of a German man explaining the pronunciation and meaning (it means lighthouse) here on youtube.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha was I close to getting it right? I really do try to pronounce things correctly but it seems like I rarely get it right. People have told me multiple times that I say "Lamy" incorrectly. I did a summer at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany but that doesn't seem to have helped.

    • @evilcritter
      @evilcritter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlakesBroadcast It doesn't help that there are some bad pronunciation guides on youtube, and that it uses some sounds found in German but not English. The ch is like a cat hiss sound, for instance. You come closer than most people I have heard. This vid really breaks it down. These notebooks are all very nice, but I can't figure out why some people buy them when really good A4 notebooks (wiro bound Claire Fontaine), and staple bound Rhodia are a fraction of the cost. Also these notebooks offer - as far as I know - the best fountain pen friendly paper on the market.

      Thanks for the comment Darryl. Clairefontaine/Rhodia makes very affordable fountain pen friendly notebooks. I've used Clairefontaine since I was a kid and used to love their French ruled notebooks. I started using other papers with more texture and found that I prefer them. I've never taken anyone's advice for notebook types and i was writing in notebooks before the internet came around. Most reviewers on here can't write properly and yet their pens are more expensive than mine. Don't quite get that one. If i had bad writing I'd certainly not want to show it to people.
