I love your videos. You give such good tips for visiting NYC. This year I come to the city for the 6th time, and I still see new things in your videos.
Dear Sarah, thank you for sharing these hidden gems.. Now I can add something to my to-do list for June this year.. It will be the 4th time in 2 years that I have come to New York. Thank you for all the tips you gave me... Thank you.
Sarah, you’re not the first to let the cat out of the bag regarding Rudy’s… I remember hearing about Rudy’s on an episode of Sex and the City! LOL So awesome that it still in business after all these years. Thanks for the video… love your work!
I stayed in Long Island City for a night on my last trip and I am definitely staying there on my next one, so I can have time to explore it properly. I spent most of my time in midtown (Broadway nerd here) and it was super convenient and much cheaper than other options. I also stopped by Rudy's for a beer and it was awesome, I am also coming back and staying longer.
As a native Upper West Sider. I always feel offended when people act like all we do is go to Dumbo and Williamsburg.. that can’t be further from the truth. I go to BedStuy, Cobbie Hill, Park Slope, Boreum Hill, Fort Green among other BK neighborhoods. I’m not the only one who does. If anyone is reading this please know Manhatannite’s go all over.
I live in and was born and raised in Southwest Brooklyn, which feels very Local. Most of the outsiders in my part of Brooklyn are immigrants from the Middle East, China, Latin America, and some Eastern Europeans as well. It feels great having everything be completely Local. From the Italian Bakeries, to the Pizzerias, to the Delis.
My residential Brooklyn neighborhood that is at least a 10 minute walk to the nearest Subway Station gets lots of tourists during the Christmas season. I'm glad I live in a part of the neighborhood away from where all the action is.
Brooklyn has really changed since I was last there. I went to the Brooklyn side of Brooklyn bridge by the East River and it was not an area you wanted to be in after dark. Back then tourists mainly stayed in the Manhattan area and rarely ventured out to the other boroughs.
Rudy's is most definitely NOT a locals place. It's like 2 blocks from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Pre-pandemic when taking the Greyhound Bus to/from Detroit made sense it would be the last place I went to before getting on the bus.
Ah Sarah!!! We were so excited to try Classic Harbor Line, we booked our boat tour for our honeymoon. And unfortunately we were treated like second class citizens. I was clearly upset. No amount of complimentary drinks could make up for not even feeling seen. Not the servers completely overlooking my husband and I, serving us last (because we had to ask after everyone was served). Mind you, we’re the only POC clientele on the boat, all the large parties were served, even the people we shared a table with. Talk about micro aggressions. Wish we had a better time.
What a fun coincidence! On my first visit to New York (around new years 2013/14) me and my friends stayed in Greenpoint, and we loved it. For my second visit half a year later, I stayed in Long Island City. Didn't actually get to know the area as much as I usaually like to do, for some reason, but it was a nice room and I also stumbled upon a late night shooting of an episode of The Good Wife, I believe. Only know that because I recognized the back head of Taye Diggs and could figure the show out after that. Good times. Anyways. I'm returning again this March, for the first time since 2017 and the sixth time in total. Gonna prepare myself by checking out some of your recent videos. You and Barr's. Good folks.
So at 0:19...I was right where you're standing on West Street, next to Yoseka Stationery, less than a month ago. If you like pens, paper, and fine writing stuff, that's the spot in Greenpoint.
Give it up for GREENPOINT! The BEST neighborhood in NYC! Don't miss Record Grouch, The Thing and Franklin St. Great Stuff!!! Paulie G's too!!! Jungle Cafe has the best vegan buffets ever!!!
Thing about NYC is it's massive and the concept of "locals" changes based on neighborhood. Everything is a tourist trap unless it's next door, in which case tourists are annoying and in the way.
You miss soooo much of Brooklyn by just visiting Greenpoint, DUMBO or the gentrified "trendy" places. Go see Greenwood Cemetery, Coney Island, John Paul Jones Park (aka Cannonball Park), Brooklyn Heights, Prospect Park, Shore Road Park, Bliss Park or NYC Transit Museum. There's good eats too in neighborhoods like Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, The Heights and Park Slope. These neighborhoods have one other asset. They're relatively safe from muggers, perverts, vagabonds and pyscho's. Also no lions-n-tigers-n-bears oh my.
McCarren Park Pool? Srsly? You're telling tourists to visit McCarren pool? Well, they'll probably get the authentic NYC experience there...like a beat-down from local NYC thugs.

Sarah, I love your shirt, can you make a video on where you got it.

CultureLab look so fun!! Definitely the kind of place I want to visit. I'll be in March in NYC, so any cultural or artistic plan is perfect.
As I said above today a few minutes earlier (1/10/2024), it reminded me of our Harborfront Center Here in Toronto.
You're guide videos are awesome. Thanks so much. 😊
Love what you do Sarah! 💚

Not true. I lived in Manhattan for 6 years and the only time I saw any other borough is the 3 times I ran the NYC Marathon!

Sarah likes LIC so much she moved out to a place in the middle of the woods far away from anything city-like.
No she didn’t. She only moved an hour away. There’s pockets of woods not far from the city

This is so boring so normal I love excitement
Now everyone knows 😅
Why?
Because bread taste better. But butter is smooth and yellow it may melt then freeze to red.

Hello sarah hope you are doing well
From Irfan s view
When will you talk about the migrant crisis?
it is very cold. I do not understand how she is wearing light clothes :)
There were a few warm days this winter, but it's usually a lot colder. Also, you don't know when she recorded all this.
1:48-Who is that baby daughter of yours, Sarah?
Thanks, you are the best host.

Hey Sarah Funk and family, I haven't been to Peter Pan Donuts in Greenpoint Brooklyn. NY 🍩

Yes, because we dont tourists visting and spending money at our small businesses. 🤦
Why do I not hear a New Yorker accent from her
Not movie like
Maybe this vid should be titled Places Tourists Don't Want to Visit in New York.
