I learned in an interview that Austin was singing with his father's gospel quartet when he was 6 or 7 years old. When he was in college in a musical program (on a full scholarship) he tried for years to 'nullify' his accent. When he joined Home Free they told him to stop trying.
I love this rendition of My Church. At 5:15 you can actually see Chance and Tim passing the base line back and forth so they cang each sing their part (and they don’t skip a beat)

Tim does have that country voice, Chance and Austin have the accent so they sound country (especially when Austin yodels) but can do other things like pop as well, and both Austin and Rob can "go to church" with their vocals, and Rob and Austin too can do the soulful, R&B singing, so all of them together just makes a great group that can do about anything all they have to do is put the right singer up front and it's like magic.
