Philips PUS7608 and 2023 TVs - recommended picture settings

  • How to adjust picture settings on your Philips 2023 TV within the user menus? Which combination of settings will get the image closest to the director's or Director of Photography's intention? Which controls can adjust brightness, contrast, black and white levels? All that you will find in this video.
    The calibration was performed using Portrait Display's Calman 2023 software, Murideo Fresco SIX-G pattern generator and Calibrite Colorchecker Display Plus colorimeter. In addition, to check picture processing I've used several test discs.
    Note that the TV I've used for this analysis doesn't have any motion controls (for judder and blur reduction), so such tips about them are unavailable. In general, if your TV has a 120 Hz max. refresh rate, in the motion menu you will have Blur reduction control which will improve sharpness in motion. By using that control, the objects in motion will have more details and will not cause the soap opera effect. If you want that effect, then you need to look for the Judder reduction option in the motion menu and adjust it to the level you find acceptable.

    Hi! why can't I adjust the backlight contrast in HDR or Dolby vision? it seems that the TV automatically increases the backlight contrast to 100%. when I watch a movie in a dark room it is way too bright.

    Hi. Have you found A way to make this TV work in «full screen mode» watching movies with Netflix and Viaplay ?
    This 7608 Philips i have only shows movies in small or narrow screen for theatres and such.

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jan - I no longer have this TV with me, but all TVs will show content in the format that is distributed via the app which you are using. While watching the content, you should be able to open Picture settings and adjust the screen format so that the picture fills out the entire screen.

    Brill thanks for this!
    I didn't think there was anyway to change the colours while watching a movie for example. I was going back to home screen then changing something then going back to what I was watching,to see if anything had improved or not
    I did not know I just had to Press Left while on the settings screen to be able to see All Settings.

    What is the peak brightness of this tv?

  • @Steve30x
    @Steve30x ปีที่แล้ว

    I used 60 for colour on the Philips TV I had too.
    I had a Philips TV. I loved the TV but hated it too. I had a few problems with it.
    When I changed hdmi source I had to go into the AV sync setting every time and set a AV sync value then set it to passthrough every time.
    The screen was a va panel so it had had crushed shadow details but nice blacks.
    After only three months use it started showing dirty screen effect and there was dark patches on all four corners of the screen by six months use.
    After only 13 months use the screen gave up outputting an image and I had to replace the TV in a hurry because it was only 8 days before Christmas lady year. So I'm stuck with an LG 🤮 TV until I can afford to change the tv in a few months.
    Other than those few problems I absolutely loved the TV v. I would buy one again if I could find the exact same model TV.
    I could be wrong but the TV I had was probably one of the 1 of 1000 faulty TVs from the factory which is why I had problems with it.
    I'm going to buy another Philips TV and prayi have better luck with it. Almost anything is better than an LG TV.

      Não havia garantia para sua TV Philips? Pelo menos 2 anos de garantia por defeito de fabricação, era o mínimo de se esperar.

    Would you recommend this TV in 55"? It's for mostly HD free channels and PS4 pro, until a PS5 is arriving next year. For 489 euros... And I couldn't find anywhere if it's VA or IPS panel

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I don't recommend this Philips TV model - there are much better choices out there. For that price I would rather get Hisense 55U7HQ, LG 55NANO783QA or Samsung UE55CU8072. As for the panel type, my 43" had IPS, but I think they are changing panels so you really cannot be certain which you will get. I know LG is also doing it since last year on their UHD models.

    • @toy2day1
      @toy2day1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TVguyDarko thank you VERY much for the recommendations. The main reason for this buy will be the ambilight and the price. For Hisense and TCL the representation in Greece is rather poor

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Since there is no blur reduction or motion interpolation on this TV, I don't have any advice since the controls are missing.

    Do you know why blue or yellow color is wrong on samsung tv even after calibrating? And why warm1 is more accurate than 2?

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Samsung CMS is often not precise enough to properly adjust colors according standards, so that could be the reason why you cannot get accurate blue and yellow. I always use Warm2 as it is more accurate - which Samsung TV have you calibrated?

    • @mauromanueljb9044
      @mauromanueljb9044 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TVguyDarko the Samsung hd of 2017... my problem is that my Gamepad wii u of 2012 tn and lcd... looks highly superior and any content there looks perfect as the directors and artists made the contents. my tv panel is 8bit and from 2017. contrast 3000 to 1. the wii u gives maximum 720p and scales to 1080p. That's why I don't change the TV. the colors perfectly where they should go and it shines more than the tv in the areas where the tv should shine. because the whites shine on the gamepad. and the colors that should be saturated are saturated and those that are not are not. and there is more detail in the image... the gamepad is 480p.

      Great to hear! Have you measured the white balance after applying my values or was is evalauted by your eyes?

    • @shueibdahir
      @shueibdahir 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TVguyDarko With my eyes yes. I have a samsung qd-oled s95b that has been professionally calibrated and ever since having it I've been able to spot inconsistencies in color.
      I also do color critical work with color grading so that also helps.
      With your settings the color balance almost perfectly matched my calibrated macbook air m1.
      I could tell that the tv needed an additional 20 point calibration to get the shadows looking right but yes when it comes to the white point your settings we're 99% spot on!

      @@TVguyDarko I also have a question. I noticed that HDR Plus makes the image pop on Philips LCD tvs. HDR10 content seems to look kinda bad on 500nit PUS8517 without it. It looks simply flat. Should it be turned off for accuracy?
