"My Ever Changing Moods" was as good as anything recorded in that era. "Confessions of a Pop Group" was criminally underrated and should be reacted to!
@@bryanforis1839 had a long career. Despite lots of collaborations over the years and performing with other artists always seemed a bit of an outsider and apart from most of the bands and artists in each decade.
The vocalist, Paul Weller, was also the lead singer of The Jam (you've reacted to them at least twice). He's worked as a solo artist for a long time. He's a superstar in the UK but only had a cult following here. He's touring the US this year for the first time in years.
The backing singer is Dee C Lee was also married to Paul Weller. She also had a great song See The Day. Paul Weller is still amazing and released his album 66 last week and he’s still touring all over the world.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "My Ever Changing Moods" and "You're the Best Thing" !!!! Lead singer Paul Weller was in The Jam, who you've reacted to a couple of times.
You just opened a deep hole of amazing great music. Paul Weller is a genius! Every decade he reinvented himself. If you listen to the words of this song and a bunch of others from his Style Council days, they are PROTEST SONGS!!! Yes, it's sounds poppy but this, The Walls Come Tumbling Down, The Whole Point of No Return and others ae spitting fire at the British government. Then he puts out a solo album at the end of the decade and opens up another series of great albums in rock and roll.
Yes, Finally!...Style Council. A huge fan! "Solid Bond in Your Heart", "You're the Best Thing", and "My Ever Changing Moods" would probably be my next suggestions, but they're just way too many to name. Edit: Paul Weller is the lead singer, who was also lead singer of The Jam.
That was an odd moment in there where J was trying to think of David Byrne’s name and she said I don’t know who sings Burning Down the House - but she’s always professed to be a huge Talking Heads fan. And they were going to cut that moment in the middle but I guess forgot to.
Thank you for doing the Style Counsel!! Loved them in the 80s! They didn’t create much buzz in the states which always perplexed me- and C. D. Lee- she is stunning and an incredible singer. She and Paul Weller had some children together and one too is a singer- and good as well!
D C Lee, the female vocalist, has a new solo album out. She started her professional career singing backing vocals for Wham in the early 80's before moving on to the Style Council.
A few more 80s acts to react to would be: Hothouse flowers - I’m sorry, don’t go, give it up; The alarm - rain in the summertime, sold me down the river; World party - ship of fools, all come true, way down now, put the message in the box; The call - let the day begin, the walls came down, I still believe, everywhere I go; Thompson twins - lies, lay your hands on me; The motels - total control; Romeo void - a girl in trouble, never say never; Thomas dolby - I love you goodbye, Europa and the pirate twins, I love you goodbye; Crowded house - World Where You Live, Something So Strong, Better Be Home Soon, Weather With You, It's Only Natural; Tim Finn (brother of Neil also in Split Enz) - hit the ground running; Timbuk 3 - the future’s so bright, life is hard
For sure you'll love My Every Changing Mood and You're The Best Thing. The Style Council is probably my number 2 favorite group...Paris Match off of Introducing The Style Council is a Masterpiece.
Somebody a minute after you posted also mentioned Paris Match. I love that version of the song best, so good. And of course, the other two songs you listed are great as well.
I discovered this song by pure chance while listening to a cassette tape of the film ''Vision Quest'' (1985). In the old days, we bought cassettes for one, two or three songs. We would move the tape forward or backward until our chosen songs began. What patience we had... One night, being lazy, I said to myself: ''Oh what the heck, let it all play''. This song came up. Out of nowhere, the beat starts, slowly gets going and never stops. What a ride. Just goes to show. Always let the tape cassette play all the songs. You never know.
Paul Weller, Multi Platinum Artist. In Britain he is called The Modfather. Lead Singer of The Jam and Style Council. Huge Solo success too. Check out Broken Stones, Changing Man and You do Something to me. Such a legend. Has been around so long, he was even on The Band aid record, Do they Know it`s Christmas. Paul Weller is up there with Sting, in legend status. I know you have really enjoyed, getting to Know Sting, in the last year. Hopefully you will get the same enjoyment, from The Modfather. Love your channels. Best Music reaction channel.
D C Lee who is singing alongside Paul Weller is his wife. She sang in Wham for songs such as "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do)", "Young Guns (Go for It)" and "Club Tropicana". Her biggest accolade is her spectacular song “See Th Day” which she wrote herself and was a massive cover for Girls Aloud. Check out D C Lee’s version by far the best and great to hear
People are mentioning My Ever Changing Moods. There are two versions: an upbeat, pop version, and a slow, jazzy version, heavy on the piano. Both are awesome.
There's a line in "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears that goes "Kick out the Style, bring back the Jam", which is a reference to this group and how some people were disappointed when Paul Weller (the singer) disbanded the Jam to start The Style Council.
Big hit in the UK in October 1984. The pictures of pit villages, collieries, etc. are a reference to the harsh, bitter Miners' Strike that was raging at the time. Months into the dispute the striking miners were holding out against the efforts of Mrs Thatcher's government to grind them down, but ominously winter was coming.
I absolutely adored them. So different back then. Now you see how much we had to choose from. Up dancing again kids. Awesome. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
You're right Jay. I was lucky enough to grow up with 80s music in the UK. Totally agree with the Ultravox shout and 'Vienna" is considered one of the classics of the decade but was famously kept off number 1 for weeks by a novelty song. Hallmark 80s moody video too. "Walls Come Tumbling Down" is another Style Council song worth checking out
STYLE COUNCIL!!!! This is my 3rd favorite song from this group, "My Ever Changing Moods" is a JAM and "You're The Best Thing" is in my Top 10 love songs!! Paul Weller, the man behind this and The Jam, is still going with new music!!
Paul Weller (lead singer of style council and the jam) is the Modfather 🙌🏻 Paul is a freakin’ legend - had a resurgence in the 90s with support from Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene. More recently he collaborated with Amy Winehouse. Check their live performances on Jools Holland. My fave Paul Weller solo songs are Broken Stones, You Do Something To Me, The Changingman, Wild Wood…..so many to pick from!
So glad you guys checked out The Style Council. I believe their ‘style’ defies musical genre categories - it’s a little bit pop (“My Ever Changing Moods”), jazzy/Bossa Nova (“Paris Match” featuring Tracy Thorne), ‘old school’ Motown (“You’re the Best Thing”), and soul (“Long Hot Summer”). Paul Weller is a great song writer with a voice that puts his heart and soul into every song he sings. Mick Talbot is a wonderful keyboardist who is definitely underrated. As a solo artist, check out Paul Weller’s “Above the Clouds” and his version of Rose Royce’s “Wishing on a Star.”
One of those bands that had their own sound. It was such a blend of styles, including R&B, techno, pop, Ska. Paul Weller, lead singer and primary writer, along with Dexy's Midnight Runner keyboardist Mick Talbot created the band after the JAM.
My favorite! Style Council hit it right out of the gate with Speak Like A Child and it's got that big horn sound you guys love. Paul Weller's next band after The Jam, influenced a lot by Curtis Mayfiel and so many great songs-the soft soul of "You're the Best Thing", the upbeat "My Ever Changing Moods", the ballad with great piano work "Paris Match(which is listed as Early version on TH-cam, more great horns and jazz flute on "How She Threw It All Away".Oh, and the slow groove of "Long Hot Summer" and "Headstart For Happiness"! They are one of the bands that for me take me back to a specific time and place and so I think they are totally 80s because even though they're blue eyed soul they also just capture the vibe of that decade.
Jay's first impression he mentioned re:Burning Down The House by Talking Heads.. this song is included in the Vision Quest soundtrack along with Madonna's Crazy For You and Journey's Only The Young.
The lead singer Paul Weller is from The Jam who you have watched before. He has many parallels to Paul McCartney's career having gone solo after this. TSC was very experimental with a lot of jazz and other musical inspiration. His partner in this band Mick Talbot, the piano player, is a great musician - Paul Weller is an amazing guitarist. He total sales across his career rival the highest selling artists in thee UK. Their song "You're the Best Thing" was my wedding dance song.
WOW!!! I wasn't expecting to see this song ANYWHERE! I probably heard it a few times when it was out 35+ years ago. After a house fire that had us lodging somewhere else for several months, I started to randomly listen to things I hadn't heard in years. Long story short, this was one the most played songs by me in 2017. This song helped lift me up when I was having a bad year. Thanks for your choice of songs tonight. It's been an uplifting evening. THANKS!!❤❤❤
What a breath of fresh air. The "edit" that wasn't an edit. Real people, real music fans. Well done to you both. One of my top songs from my mid 20s was Talking Heads with Burning Down the house.
Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. As others have said, the lead singer was none other than "The Modfather", Paul Weller, previously from The Jam and also an excellent solo artist. I was so excited to meet him briefly at work a while ago. He is such a cool and down to earth guy. He spoke about his time with The Style Council and wasn't very complementary of the songs they produced, except for one or two. I think not the material he is most proud of. There are so many more of his for you to check out though, particularly with The Jam and solo too. You should also react to 'Walls Come Tumbling Down' by The Style Council. Some of his songs are political and that is one of them. 'You're The Best Thing' was their biggest UK hit and that's not bad either. Æx 🙏
I like the fact that you didn't cut the reaction (may have forgot) as it shows people what goes into your reaction videos... a little bit like behind the scenes
Omg you guys didn’t edit out the bickering where Jay says it’s terrible. And then Amber says she doesn’t know who sings Burning Down the House!? She always talks about much she loves the Talking Heads. Wha?
Oh, I love The Style Council! They are one of my all-time favorite groups. Paul Weller, the genius behind this group, The Jam, and his solo work is a legend to me. Please review Boy Who Cried Wolf. Keep up the great work!!!
Jay said indeed that it is terrible but he didn't mean that about the song. I think he was talking about the fact that he felt bad that they couldn't think of the name of the singer or group from Burning Down The House. Talking Heads, a group they've done a few times and really like. And Amber just wanted to get on with the recording quickly instead of wasting their time waiting for David Byrne to finally pop into their minds. I assume they were in a hurry to record the reactions during a busy weekend.
@helindove2237 -- Yes. I wonder, too, if Jay was thinking of "Tear Your Playhouse Down" and of Paul Young, whose remake was a big '80s hit. Its horns and punchy rhythm remind me of the Style Council.
Bought one of their cassettes from a reduced price bin in 1985 not knowing anything about The Style Council. Loved it and realized another flavor had been added to my eclectic music taste. Very happy to see you react to them.
Yeah g'day, You have done Paul Weller before when he was The Jam and this was one of his incarnations, certainly a man of many moods and styles. One of the few still going strong from the 80s now as an independent, one who still has a voice for protest, causes, and righteousness.
Paul Weller and Mick Talbot make up the Style Council , they had a couple of female backing singers, in the early days they had a girl called Tracey Young, but mostly it was D C Lee who also appeared in Wham. Their long time drummer was Ian White. D C Lee later married Paul. Paul Weller is one of the most prolific song writers in UK history. Over 50 years and he has never stopped writing songs and releasing albums. In fact he has a new one out now or coming out soon. He's also got a duet on You Tube with one of your favourite all time female singers. Amy W! You should do that on a Female Friday as a surprise for Jay. This song is fine but not one of his best in my opinion but a lot of people loved it. I suggest exploring his solo career as well, he just never stops writing songs. Broken Stones, ChangingMan are two good ones to start
David Byrne of the Talking Heads sing burning down the house Paul Weller is the singer here and he was the singer in The Jams, which you listened too about a year ago. Long Hot Summer is my fave Style Council song.... its a slow jam with a great grove.
You've already reacted to The Jam and this is the lead singer, Paul Weller! After the Jam he formed this band and this song was a banger! You two still have to listen to some Jam-songs btw, like 'Going Underground' and 'Beat Surrender', you won't regret😉 Oh yeah and Burning Down The House is from The Talking Heads and the singer from that band is David Byrne.😄😉
Paul Weller - The Jam, The Style Council and his solo stuff - brilliant and different sounds all over the musical map and great thoughtful lyrics -- got get 'em!
After all the hundreds of videos I've watched of you two reacting, that was the first awkward moment Jay. Lucky your good woman Amber rescued you by saying, "Just say something". Now I know who wears the trousers in your house! LOL. Just kidding, you're a great team. Thanks for the entertainment.
Man, this group brings me back to when I was living in the UK during the 80s. Paul Weller came from The Jam and the guy on piano came from Dexy's Midnight Run (Come on Eileen). I always equated their smooth songs like ones you would listen to in a jazzy beatnik club. There is a lot of social commentary in their lyrics. Dee C. Lee, on background vocals, was Paul's girlfriend at the time. They have some great songs. "You're the Best Things" is an iconic love ballad, with some saxophone thrown in, "Walls Come Tumbling Down" was also very popular in the UK at the time. Both songs were performed live at LIVE Aid in 1985. An experience I will never forget being there. What a time for music back then. BTW, are you referencing the band, Talking Heads with your burning down the house reference?
I had never heard of The Style Council when I bought (in CD) “Confessions of a Pop Group” in the late ‘80’s. I bought it simply because the “album”cover was so intriguing! I still love it! It was a departure from their dance/pop style, very avant-garde. The whole thing is worth a deep listen, but a few highlights are: “Why I Went Missing” “It’s a Very Deep Sea” “Changing of the “Guard” They are very unique, I still haven’t heard anything comparable. Consider giving them your ears at some time. They’re very engaging.
Paul Weller from The Jam. The guy is a genius. This is his soul influences coming through, which you can also hear in much of The Jam's work like Town Called Malice. Even though they were also influenced by punk. 10 years after this song he released his iconic solo album Wild Wood. Which is absolutely brilliant.
Please listen to XTC - 80's classics King for a Day and Senses Working Overtime. They had many great pop songs and are still influencing artists today.
Paul Weller is a generational talent. The Jam / Style Council / solo. Man is a treasure. Going to see his show in Philly in September.
Yes!! Now I have to look for a ticket!!
His new album (came out last week) is great! Of course, almost all of his stuff is.
Definitely. He’s an excellent song writer and an ever better performer. They should definitely check out some of his solo work.
Wot he said.
Paul Weller is an English treasure. I think his drummer, Paul White, deserves a special mention too. One of the best drummers I have ever heard.
Style Councils best iconic song "Youre the Best Thing" - he is an icon and for good reason.
"My Ever Changing Moods" was my fav
Yes great song also Paul Weller's solo track You do something to me.
"A Solid Bond In Your Heart" and "Walls Come Tumbling Down" are my favourites
Weller said many times he far enjoyed his time in the Style Council compared with the years he spent in The Jam.
I really like Long Hot Summer and Dropping Bombs on the Whitehouse.
'My Ever Changing Moods' is one of the best songs of the 80's.
'You're the Best Thing' is a fabulous love song.

What a breath of fresh air. The "edit" that wasn't an edit. Real people, real music fans. Well done to you both.
One of my top songs from my mid 20s was Talking Heads with Burning Down the house.
Paul Weller - You Do Something to Me - you will love it.
The Piano riff in "I don't like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats is well worth listening to.
New one for me. Wicked cool. Thanks!
Have I misheard or, in that uncut pause, did Jay say that he thought the Song was terrible - with Amber telling him to say something positive?
Jay said indeed that it is terrible but he didn't mean that about the song. I think he was talking about the fact that he felt bad that they couldn't think of the name of the singer or group from Burning Down The House. Talking Heads, a group they've done a few times and really like. And Amber just wanted to get on with the recording quickly instead of wasting their time waiting for David Byrne to finally pop into their minds. I assume they were in a hurry to record the reactions during a busy weekend.
Oh yeah, he definitely said the song is terrible😂
@helindove2237 -- Yes. I wonder, too, if Jay was thinking of "Tear Your Playhouse Down" and of Paul Young, whose remake was a big '80s hit. Its horns and punchy rhythm remind me of the Style Council.
Yes, it was a weird moment but maybe telling because they aren't doing the channel together anymore
Bought one of their cassettes from a reduced price bin in 1985 not knowing anything about The Style Council. Loved it and realized another flavor had been added to my eclectic music taste. Very happy to see you react to them.
I took a chance on the cutout bins and got lots of great music.
Yeah g'day,
You have done Paul Weller before when he was The Jam and this was one of his incarnations, certainly a man of many moods and styles. One of the few still going strong from the 80s now as an independent, one who still has a voice for protest, causes, and righteousness.
You have hit upon a treasure trove here with The Style Council
Walls come tumbling down and Long hot summer are a couple of great tracks.
Loved the Style Council! So many good songs. Love D C Lee’s voice , it worked really well with Wella’s.
Brilliant memories ❤
Edit: Dexy's Midnight Runners
Speak like a child, a solid bond in your heart, ever changing moods are just the best songs. Mr Weller is the Master.
Never heard this song before & went back & listened a few times - I really like it.
Just appreciate it for what it is. No need to categorize it. It's fun. It's different. It's music. That's all that matters.
yep to much pigeon holing goes on with US reactors looking for hidden meanings etc in songs
Paul Weller (The Modfather) is a legend in the UK. You should check out his solo stuff. ‘You Do Something To Me’ and ‘Wildwood’ are beautiful songs.
Long Hot Summer is another great one to listen to, sit back, relax and let it take you away ....
You bring much joy to people with this I reckon.
So happy you checked out The Style Council! They had style 😎
I had never heard of The Style Council when I bought (in CD) “Confessions of a Pop Group” in the late ‘80’s. I bought it simply because the “album”cover was so intriguing!
I still love it! It was a departure from their dance/pop style, very avant-garde.
The whole thing is worth a deep listen, but a few highlights are:
“Why I Went Missing”
“It’s a Very Deep Sea”
“Changing of the “Guard”
They are very unique, I still haven’t heard anything comparable.
Home and Abroad is one of the greatest live records ever. My favorite by them. All the hits and fantastic energy.
completely agree
Please listen to XTC - 80's classics King for a Day and Senses Working Overtime. They had many great pop songs and are still influencing artists today.
