Canada Post could have avoided this whole thing if they had come prepared to bargain in the first place. For once, the government actually said no to intervention. So, instead of bargaining a year ago when negotiations started, Canada Post is just realizing now that their demands for massive concessions won't fly. This is what happens when the government steps in every time and employers come to expect it.
Lol a postie with only postie likes. Btw 2018 the government said it wouldn't intervene till it does. You'll be forced back. Will you guys have the spine to defy legislation. Only way you guys get a fair deal. I support every public sector getting paid and being a good middle-class job.

I remember a few years ago some protestors blocked the Ambassador Bridge, and all the economists came out saying we're losing millions of dollars in trade every day and the government needs to act immediately. Now this strike is probably worse for the Canadian economy, and yet we aren't seeing the sense of urgency to get the mail moving again. Added to other economic problems, this could decimate Canada's economy. The government is underestimating the magnitude and the cost of this crisis under the false assumption that other mail carriers are mitigating the damage.
Dam from what I hear meeting in the middle 16% and not destroying the pension and benefits will end the strike from employees and the union and corp can argue about weekend delivery as everyone works

Executives don’t want a deal because they make more during the strike. They own Purolator and Purolator is busy. Executives get guaranteed bonuses even if they lose money. White glove customers were told strike will go into January, before mediator even left. Maybe they were told that is when forced arbitration will occur. Same thing always happens. Arbitrator gets angry at management for not doing anything. Arbitrator gives raise. Management arranges work to lower salaries. They don’t care they are affecting small businesses. They are making more money during strike.
Change of model cld have been achieved 10 years ago. But the main intention was and is to dissolve Canada Post... Now they have this man here giving wordless lip service 🤣🤣
The backlog is *not* just everything that was in the system 3 weeks ago, as he says. Internationally, senders have still been mailing parcels to Canada, and they've just been piling up for entry into the country. When they get moving again, it will be a deluge, not just for Canada Post, but for Customs as well. Even if a resolution were only a week away, holiday delivery could still be very much affected.
The CEO and VPs and such need to stop with their massive bonuses and what they call their "at risk pay" aka bonus. What are they at risk of? They sit at a desk. The people who are out actually doing the work don't get any at risk pay. $450,000 plus bonuses? Why do they need 15 VPs? No wonder Canada Post isn't getting anywhere when most of the income goes directly into their pockets as pay and bonuses.
Premium customers were told strike will go into January (before mediator even left). I guess that is when forced arbitration will occur. Top end makes more money during strike because Canada Post owns Purolator.
Canadian Postal Unions need to be reminded about how the US Mail works and be thankful for what Canadian Postal workers get. How Canada Post survived fax, email, couriers and independent delivery services is a mystery.
Canada post owns atleast 2 of those other courier services. Survive what?.its a public service to serve the public like ttc city workers and other federal jobs.
The last place I worked for the union got us all fired/replaced. We did 1 month of strike and the company took it personal and made sure we all paid dearly for that long strike.
CUPW if Canada Post offers you 12% please take it. That's basically 3 percent per year in 4 years time. Your Canada Post is not making money, even if you say the company is mandated to deliver mail and parcel still this company needs money to operate. Just finish this and it's getting annoying when greed is the real reason of your strike. Asking 24% increase is too much for a non-skilled job.
@tc-yq2cb 70 cents per hour which adds up. With the current inflation which is 2 percent that is still up. This needs to stop really. Canada Post and CUPW just meet halfway and end this unwanted situation.
At this point, I hope Canada Post withdraws whatever offer is on the table and makes a new offer of a 5% wage decrease that increases one percentage point every day for the next 15 days. Either they accept the deal at some point and have a 5-20% wage decrease, or Canada Post goes out of business forever. Btw, they should use the pension fund to pay off debts as well… Canada Post has lost BILLIONS since 2018. In the third quarter alone they lost 315 million. Despite this, the union is demanding a 24% wage increase as well as the ability to force Canada Post to pay full time workers double time OT on weekends rather than hire part time employees. Well, well, well…. The workers claim that they are so overworked yet are demanding that they be given more hours on weekends. I wonder if it’s because they can get paid for 8 hours even if their job only takes them 4? On a Saturday, they could work 4 hours, get paid for 8, and all OT is automatically double time; work 4 hours but get paid for 16….. The company is already at death’s door and the employees see no issue with their demands……
Every single year until 2018. Tax dollars dont pay them since 1989. So if we the tax payer start paying a public service for 10-15 years so what? 2billion is literally an extra 56$ per citizen but thats not exactly how taxes work

Yes but we need to keep our middle class too if we want a real economy with families and affordable housing. Yeah these are not fun, but unions like companies and the middle class all have an important role to play in sustaining a stable economy and society. Just see how the Germans and french balance those needs to maintain a middle class with 5 or 6 weeks off, decent salaries, and often as productive as the us. They also have big companies and much better family support. Perhaps we just need to learn from the french and germans how to better conduct discussions between unions and the company. Read up on it
@padimills1494 lol but companies and people pay and want that advertisement. You cant just refuse customers. Is it first a public service or a for profit business. Currently it operates as for profit and has lived off profits since 1989. But its now needing to be tax funded it seems to remain a needed public service. Idc if its s Attrition of a shrinking workforce and mangement. But they absolutely deserve to be paid a fair wage and most importantly keep a pension. No other public sector turns a profit. Ttc cost 4 billion a year. But we're shitting on postal workers for ghe first time needing tax funding to remain a public service since 1989 and 2 billion a year to every tax payer in canada isn't the same as ttc costing the gta alone 4 billion. Politicians burn through our money with corruption and stupidity and 5 billion to Ukraine but we are gonna keep each other down instead of supporting middle class canadian jobs?
There is a need for Canada Post, but how can they compete with e-commerce and still be profitable? And the multiple couriers out there, that deliver better hours/ more days?

CUPW wants to sign a contract that doesn't allow Canada Post workers to deliver on weekends? When that agreement expires in 4 years, Canada Post will be long gone. Workers are damaging their future.
wrong, they don't mind working the weekend. What they're against is outsourcing to cheap labor for weekend delivery as well the possibility of weekdays work. That is one of the main problem in the negotiation talk. Also cutting the pension, benefits in half for the existing and future employees as well wages for new employees. The CPC made 6 and 3 billion during the covid years so that's 9 billions. What happened to that 9 billions they made during the last 4 years???? Covid lasted close to 2 years so they're not losing money, what they want is to get rid of the FT, PT and outsourced all the work to cheap contractors and labor and staff the workplace with casual who doesn't have any rights.

55000 workers not making money. Who put you there? Get back to work.

I'll believe it when I see it .....but so far it's just BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
the easiest way to close the deal is to cut back upper management salary and bonuses and give what the employees need. recovering the peoples trust has been destroyed by the corporation on its own. the corp isn't losing money since it is a major stakeholder on purolator and among other major courier company.
The postal workers are like bus drivers. Never happy, always squawking for more. Be grateful to have a job at all.

@hughjazz17 I have applied a few time already for your information, you don't know me, all you do is assume and fly your gums 1000 km/hr behind the computer screen.
Wait till you have to pay rent, car payments, and support a family. Then tell me how that goes for you.
@abcdedfg8340 rent in toronto is only 2200 a month atleast lol.
76 million loss per day in the small business sector. By Wednesday, the total loss revenue will be 1 billion.
Dam from what I hear meeting in the middle 16% and not destroying the pension and benefits will end the strike from employees and the union and corp can argue about weekend delivery as everyone works
The Union wants to get bigger while CP becomes smaller..hahah pure brilliance right there.. 😐
Just delivered my gifts to Mississauga from Kingston on the bus (4 to be exact) Two buses, a train and a taxi to get home. I'll never use Canada Post again. I'm done 😡

And hopefully cheaper mail prices than all the other competitors.
Fire all these lazy bums.
Many’s are unemployed and looking for work while these folks don’t care about being employed.
The USPS also has a union, but federal law workers are not allowed to strike.
@philipmclaughlin9636 not allowed to strike and make half of what CP employees make
The last place I worked for the union got us all fired/replaced.
3 % is like getting a 70 cents raise a year, it's nothing.
Better than nothing for the work that is being done @@tc-yq2cb
@@tc-yq2cbit's not nothing. It's better than nothing.

Btw, they should use the pension fund to pay off debts as well…
Canada Post has lost BILLIONS since 2018.
Really they are striking I didn’t even know 😂
when has Canada Post ever made a profit in the last 20 years. If they are not making money sell it already.
They lost 3 billion in the last 3 yrs!
Every single year until 2018. Tax dollars dont pay them since 1989. So if we the tax payer start paying a public service for 10-15 years so what? 2billion is literally an extra 56$ per citizen but thats not exactly how taxes work
@@4loops435 years and after turning a profit every year since 1989 and that 3 billion the majority were business investments. Also if they were allowed to jack up prices they'd be profitable. It should be *against the law* for Canads postal workers to strike November 24 - December 24. Canada Postal "service" is needed for charities, small business, families who send gifts and cards, seniors, and everyone.
Is the union and workers waiting for CP to file bankruptcy and then restart a new CP 2.0 that will be a completely different animal? That’s what’s going to happen.
