Dad grew up on lake Erie and also spent many decades in his retirement on lake Michigan at a little Port named Frankfort. He sold the house and boat about 8 years ago. I really miss my time spent with dad boating, fishing and working on the home and property for many summers. The great lakes and its people are just wonderful like yourselves. Thank you so very much for sharing this great lifestyle.
What a nice comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us your story. Those are wonderful memories for you. We did stay in Frankfort at the municipal marina. It was a good place for Ed's brother and best friend to come for a visit. On the way back we anchored out in the lake and enjoyed a concert on shore from our boat. All the little towns have something to offer. That's why we are coming back this summer!
Thanks FB... that is the kind of information that is great to view. I hope you cover some of the places in your upcoming videos from summer 2024.😊 Gord
I loved our trip to Michigan and visits to all these great coastal towns. The clear water of Lake Michigan is amazing. I can’t wait to visit again in summer of 2024.
This is the best Vlog I’ve seen on Michigan’s cute port cities! You guys did a wonderful job explaining each city and why you liked it. It felt like I was right there on board Freebird with you! Thank you so much for sharing this!
We are New Buffalo boaters. Nice review of our harbor. Was hoping you might say something about our 3 favorites: Arcadia (very small and quiet with a very well run municipal), Pentwater, (much like a mini-Saugatuck) and Northport with great restaurants, Barb's Bakery and Tom's supermarket. Thanks, again, for the nice video.
Definitely understand the limitations. Really enjoyed your review of Beaver Island. Have been there twice. Am desperately trying to convince my wife to move there once we retire (not very successfully so far). Seem like a great central point to explore Huron/North Channel, Superior and northern Wisconsin. Thanks. again! @@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop
@@jamesrogers9747 We loved Beaver Island but if we had a choice we would love to live in Charlevoix. They have a ferry that will take you to Beaver Island.
Great job hitting the highs! Makes me want to do one for the Wisconsin side! I always recommend hitting Door County on the way south. It is only 60 is miles across from sturgeon bay to Frankfort. Those loopers who have a quicker cruise like yourselves won/t want to miss that side!
On our voyage back to Lake Michigan next summer we intend to spent time exploring Door County on the Wisconsin side of the lake. We’ve heard great things about it.
Good question. Out of all the marinas we visited only New Buffalo, in the Michigan Reservations, said we were too long. But when I called, they found a wall we could fit on. All the other marinas could accommodate our 56 ft Carver. A lot of them we saw 70 ft boats docked at. You can check the specifics of each marina at midnrreservations.com/ What size boat are you planning on traveling in?
We have been there by boat. We also visited by car when we were in Traverse City. It's just not a top ten for us. Mainly because it is very small with only a couple spots for larger boats and it's exposed to the wind. Also no grocery store within walking distance.
Has anyone cruised that you kno of the inland water way from Crooked lake , Thru Alanson. To Burt Lake. Up to. Mullet Lake...Thru to Cheboygan❓❓🤷🏻♂️ And videoed it for TH-cam ❓❓🤷🏻♂️

The Great Lakes are like the Atlantic Ocean of the Midwest. They are amazing.
We agree! We love it up here!😄

Ludington (just south of Manistee) is a really nice place to stop!!
We agree! We enjoyed Chef Johns Bakery. We stopped on the way up. See this video:

Great video. We hope to spend some time cruising Lake Michigan and this video inspired us!

Thanks for mentioning your favorites. Limited ours because most loopers have a short time to be in Michigan.

Beautiful!
I’m a big fan of beaver island. bought some land there.

Question what length boat do most of those marinas consider too large for them? Thanks.

@@FreebirdonTheGreatLoop actually there is a grocery store only 500 feet from the docks. Fish town is very scenic and popular with tourists
Very informative…thanks for sharing. What time of year was this?
May-August 2022 Thanks for watching!
If you drop anchor and take a dingy ashore. Where to you keep the dingy and do most the marinas charge to tie up such a small boat?
Not usually. Most marinas and restaurants, at least in Michigan have free dinghy docks. Some of the towns have public docks also, like Saugatuck.

Not that we know of. Ed did it years ago but in a smaller boat. His brother did part of it this year. Our Carver is too big.
I kept looking. Restless Viking done it.
🤷🏻♂️ Mystery of the inland water way.
🤷🏻♂️16 minute video 🤔 Still interesting.
Thanks 👍🏻🙏🏻 Now I have to hit the lottery to do the cruise. Pontoon boat.😃👍🏻
Brother raced stock outboards. Used
Some of them water way 👍🏻🇺🇸
